With so much discussion and not enough reviews circulating around the web, this was one litter box we had to try. Watch the video to find out what we thought of the ChillX AutoEgg and whether or not we think it's worth the $399 price tag.

Thank you for such an honest review. You were definitely very diplomatic. I've never been more disappointed in any product and this is the first review I've ever taken time to write, but I do this as a service to those considering this egg. Here is my experience. There are so many issues with this system and I wish I would have seen a review outlining them before spending $400.
I used and monitored the egg for about 10 days.
    1. The litter pan is VERY small and takes a maximum of about 2" of litter. This is inadequate for clumping litter and for any cat that poops or pees more than 2x / day. I have two 5-month old kittens and I KEPT their large litter box next to the egg (it holds 4-5" of litter). They used both. I had to monitor the egg ALL day. The waste pan is also VERY small - and when the rake didn't get stuck (which it did often), the pan was full in less than a day.
    2. When you take the waste pan out, litter gets all over the floor. Litter and feces also gets under the litter pan and into the unit which there is no way to clean except to reach in with your hand (or towel) and drag it onto the floor and then try to sweep it up. It's messy and requires you to touch fecal matter... something this product is professing to remedy.
    3. The instructions say to not drag the unit on the floor due to the sensors. The design is such that the egg is long - the entry on one side and the waste pan on the other. Most people will want to save space and back up the back end against a wall or corner. There's no way to empty the pan without moving the egg since the pan opens to the back. No one is going to pick the whole thing up every day. This could have been partially remedied with a pan that opens to the side.
    4. Since the litter pan is so shallow, pee goes right to the bottom and turns clumping litter to cement or mud. This happened EVERY day and requires that I manually go into the box and scrape the pan, AND manually scoop the pan. Which brings me to the lid.
    5. To get in the unit, you have to take off the entire lid. there's no hinge or easy way to access. The lid doesn't go back on easily and ChillX even has a video about this since I'm assuming the complaints were so rampant. It does not clip back on easily, and I had 10 days of screaming expletives as I got covered in litter and crap trying to get into and out of this product. If you want to access the control panel, you have to take the lid off. If you want to manually force the rake to work, you have to take the lid off. WHY wouldn't these controls be on the outside of the unit? WHY wouldn't the lid be on a hinge?
Even with these design fixes, the bottom line is it's a hot mess. It does NOT make having a litter box any easier - it actually increased my work as a cat owner AND was way, way, way less sanitary. With a normal box, you can use a liner, scoop once a day and dispose of the litter as needed.
    6. The chillX suggests a DEEP clean every 14 days. The means taking apart all the little pieces covered in fecal matter and litter cement and washing them. I have to do this to return the unit and I've never had so much litter and fecal matter on the floor, on myself, in the sink. It was awful. I can't imagine doing this every month, let alone every 10-14 days.
    7. Which brings me to chillX customer service. I wrote them a detailed account of my experience with the egg for that first 10 days and how I came to the conclusion that there was no remedy to make the egg work for me or likely 90% of cat owners. The only scenario I can think of is a single older cat owner who poops and pees very little. And even with that there's emptying the messy tray, monitoring and adding more litter every day and taking the box apart to clean it.
I would EXPECT any reputable company to offer a full refund, given that I did everything right, and even went over and above to try to get the box to work better for me. They did NOT offer a full refund. They withhold a minimum of $60 on the return if you have all of the original packaging, and even more if they say you didn't clean the egg properly.
For a $400 price tag (which is significant to most people, including me), I will be shocked if they are still in business in 6 months. I feel like this is a complete rip off.
I've NEVER written a review about any product like this - but I WISH I would have had these warnings before purchasing, so I do it as a service to you.
P.S. I submitted this same general honest review to the Chillx website as a verified buyer and they have never included it in their reviews section.

We are also very disappointed with the quality of this product for the price. Same issues with the lid fitting and tray closing. Also the grate gets bound up at the back of the tray in the middle of a cycle. Tried to return it in the 30 day window and they wouldn't accept. Disputed the credit card charge because we felt the product isn't as advertised.
Don't waste your money. I can't even resell the thing. Tried giving it away too, no takers.

Great review as always! I happened to own this AutoEgg litter box for more than half a year now. As a long-time channel follower, here's my long-term review relevant to your contents: 1) I fully agree with you that the top is hard to put on at first. I figured out that it's much easier to put on if I align one end of the lid well with the clip on the eggshell. 2) The inside touchscreen design needs to improve, but it's not an issue to me as I only check them when I replace the litter. 3) I suspect the cleaning performance before the purchase. For the past months, they didn't perform perfectly, but it's within my expectation. There's simply no ideal automatic litter box out there in the market as we dreamt about for zero residues. 4) I'm a bit surprised at how dirty your box became after one week of usage. It's like I didn't clean it for more than a month at one time. Maybe this is because of different cat behavior. 5) The size looks small with the round hood, but my kittie Sammy uses it no problem even after becoming a 16 pounder recently. He really likes the eggshell hood box privacy. Above all, comparing to Litter Robot and PetSafe Scoopfree that I once used for the past decade, Chillx litter box only did an okay self-cleaning. But considering it's significantly quieter than any other automatic litter boxes, plus the irresistible minimalist design, this is the only auto litter box I can keep using in the long run.

😣😫 This channel has been very helpful in my continual quest to find an automatic cat litter box that works well, but I’m frustrated as hell too. I HATE scooping cat litter! I HATE IT! And I do this for 2 cats, both 5 month old kittens. The mess, the smell, the cost! Ugh! We can put a man on the moon but we’re yet to get an automatic cat litter apparatus that frees up the owner from doing this atrocious duty...daily. Thank you.
You’ve indeed saved me/us a ton of money. I almost broke down and bought that large, round $499 contraption (litter robot, glad I didn’t buy it. I mean...$499?). That’s too pricey an experiment. One of my cats is scared of her own shadow, so much for getting her in that thing. Anyway, you’re providing a good service, thank you but I long for the day when you come to us with a, Stop the presses: I’ve found the perfect cat litter robot/scrapper/self-cleaning thingy...it’s perfect, and won’t break the bank announcement. I mean seriously...please? (Big sigh).
Alas, until then, I keep my fingers crossed while damn near fighting back tears and nose bleed from the very smell, let alone the sight of clumped cat urine and feces as I continue the very unpleasant, odious job of scooping/sifting/disposing of stinky cat litter 😩😭😖✌🏽

    Hello,
    Thanks for your review.
I have a Persian cat 12years old and I purchased this litter 6 months ago.
I am very happy of it because despite the quality could be improved, it does the job very well (with A&H litter slide), my cat is happy because it’s always clean, no smells, and the device is very convenient in a small apartment, plus it’s not ugly like many other litter robots. I’ve tried a year ago the “Litter Robot” and I didn’t like it because it’s too big for my cat and it was huge in my apartment! I returned it.
ChillX customer service is excellent, they exchanged 3 times the device for free at the beginning due to defective motor because of the transport. I paid $0! 👍
When I returned my “Litter Robot” branded, I paid $80 for RMA. 👎
Here is a fact: product isn’t perfect, but honestly it’s easy to handle and clean once we are used to it. I clean the drawer once every week then pour some litter and I clean the full litter once a month.
This product changed my cat’s life and mine! It worth the price!! 👍😀

I read bad reviews on this litter box so I was a bit leery of purchasing it. That said, a lot of those seemed to revolve around unrealistic expectations and frankly improper use. I have had this box for three months now and it works beautifully. The odor control works really well and this is coming from someone who has an obscenely sensitive sense of smell. I can barely smell the litter box and I am able to enjoy my day inside without having to open any windows and air out any smells. Unless I cook something with a strong smell then that is on me. Final conclusion: This product is good, but in order to be GREAT you need to make it work for your cat and your lifestyle because there is a learning curve to it.

This looks like a lot more work than my non-automatic litterbox, for a lot more money. Surprised at the lack of app-monitoring too. The materials look really cheap too, but the cleaning is the real death knell for me.

The deep cleaning only takes about 10 minutes after you get used to it. I haven't had the residue problems that she had in the video. Not for every cat, but my experience has been much more enjoyable. I will say that you definitely don't want to fill too much litter. I made that mistake once and it was a hassle to get running again.

Excellent, thorough review. I'm sending mine back, problems right out of the box. It's a very stylish piece of garbage, and rather than Chillx's new age-y promise of a device which allows cat owners to "chill", I found myself frustrated (during assembly) and angry that I will have to go through the trouble of returning (presuming that it is returnable!). Basically, a big fat FAIL, and I so wish that I had watched this review before buying.

Excellent and accurate review! I have the ChillX and I'm still finding myself cleaning after it because sometimes the stuff gets stuck in the rake (if my cat is sick her poo sticks to the rake) and sometimes the clumps of clay litter gets suck too or fails to get cleaned. The cover SUCKS! the touch-pad is pointless and should be on the outside. Also, stuff gets underneath the tray just like you said. It needs to be improved. I love the design but it has issues and for the money paid, it falls short.

Great Review. I have used it and am thinking of sending it back. I agree with all the things you said in the review. I have two cats and feel like it just can't keep up and the flimsy lid drives me crazy. I have learned the workaround that if you want the rake to move you can unplug and replug it but that wipes all your data from the tiny unreadable screen that is always covered with litter so yeah data collection is a bust on this one.

Okay, I have had this thing one week, and honestly, I like it. It does what I needed it to do. I needed a litter box that would clean litter out before my dog could get to it, and would clean litter out after every use so that my cat would gravitate towards it more than my carpet (im not home enough to scoop as often as I would like. And sometimes I'm just too tired to scoop after every use). My cat has recently gotten into the habit of eating dog food (on top of his cat food, im working on it) so he produces alot of waste, many many times a day! For the reasons mentioned I empty this thing every 2-3 days. Im about to perform my first thorough cleaning/litter replacement. I will follow up and let you all know how it goes.

    • @naomicarrion2321
      @naomicarrion2321 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I will say, yhe first thorough cleaning was lengthy, but mostly because I didn't know how to remove all the parts for cleaning. After watching the chillx videos, it was easy to understand how to remove all the compartments. So yes, after this initial removal, it was lengthy. I will update you next week on the next Cleaning to let you know if it goes faster and smoother. I also want to let you know that I didn't have issues with litter sticking to the container, just at first when the litter was poured much too shallow. Regardless, I have tried the pam/baking soda method for this next round of fresh litter. I will update you all next week and let you know how it goes.

I have this one! I’d say that my experience has been better than yours BUT I have a few issues with it. First off I have a small cat, she’s a little over 5lbs. I don’t have litter issues often, sometimes it sticks to the rake or the bottom of the pan, but not often. Overall I love it as it cuts down on my cleaning time and I have zero smell! My issues are the lid is a pain in the tail to put on. I’ve had this litter box since August and it’s still awful!! Second of all the screen/health tracking is as you said in a stupid place and the touch screen stopped working properly like two months ago. Takes forever for it to register my finger which is very annoying if you need to press rake and not wait. You seemed to have a lot of issues with the waste tray that I don’t have. Mine fits in perfectly fine. Overall I chose this one over the big robot box because It had a smaller foot print and I didn’t have the space for the other one. I’m pretty pleased but I wouldn’t recommend for a multi cat household!!

I've tried a few of these automatic litter boxes, and I'll stick to a big open box and a scoop. Cleaning an automatic litter box itself is more labor intensive, she requires more maintenance than just rinsing out an open box. And since open litter boxes are so cheap, one also has the option of just discarding them and buying new ones.

This litter box is not perfect, BUT, it does what we need it to. Our cats were peeing in random spots of the house because we weren’t cleaning it enough. We decided to invest in this box after getting new floors that we didn’t want peed on. The sound is a little loud, but you get used to it. There are times where the pee sticks to the bottom of the box and you have to scrape it with the scoop it came with, but that’s also maybe because my cat digs and leaves little holes where there is no litter. It is easy to empty, and I followed someone else’s tip on here to line the disposal box with plastic bags for even easier clean up. Would buy again!

    Very much off topic...
Plastic bowls... I've just found out that plastic bowls seem to be frowned upon. I've just bought some from from McMac Trendy Dinner Bowl... They claim that the issues with bacteria are not a problem. So I'm looking for a second opinion.
    P. S. The reason for the purchase was that they are designed to be ant safe, there is a reservoir built into the design that fills with water. This will keep the ants away as every year I have an ant invasion if food its left for more than 5 minutes.
    Thanks.
Edit: solved my immediate problem... My old stainless steel bowls fit perfectly inside the plastic bowls and there is enough of a gap that the ant moat still works...

It’s immediately obvious, even before you put the litter in, that all those little ridges and cramped nooks are going to be a terrible pain in the cat butt to clean.
Also, when will litter box makers realize that a lot of male cats pee standing up. I know for a fact that my boy would pee all over the motor, I ended up making my own litter boxes out of simple big storage boxes that’s taller than my cats. I also built my own side board to put the boxes in.

I bought a ChillX AutoEgg, and I am very frustrated so far. Either my cat's solid waste is too soft or the 5 mins. after her using it is not long enough for it to clump well enough. I do use a hard-clumping litter. Is there a way to edit the amt. of time to maybe like 10 mins. or so?
I'm not sure whether to keep it and keep trying to make it work or return it. It took approximately 1-1/2 months to get it delivered after I ordered it in the first place.. Then so much poop keeps sticking to the rake and in the litter that I feel like screaming. Help!

I would address this to the company-this is a great question and, unfortunately, I'm not able to give a good answer at this time. Thanks for stopping by!

The automatic litter boxs that use the rake system are a real pain. I had 4 littermaid rake type auto cats boxs. 1). The rake gets clogged up . 2). The side tracks get clogged up especially if cat pees on it and the litter sticks, this caused the rake to get stuck during cycle & it's a pain to clean. 3). If you have more than one cat your constantly changing the waste bin because it is small, the unit didnt detect if waste bins were full so it overflowed if you didnt check it every day or pay attention,/ forgot. nasty mess. If your going to spend 399.00 on this you might as well save up 100.00 more and get the litter robot 3. I got 2 of them without the wifi option, that I found a waste of extra cost to have for me.
