She's so nervous of the films reception. Little did she know it would walk away with Best Director, Best Suppprting Actor and Best Actress. Sally bowles, a haunting iconic performance.

So both were very polite to each other and let the other talk.

I don't know what was going on with Dick on this one, but he gave her little chance to speak. A bit disappointed, considering how well I've seen him conduct interviews of other stars. She, on the other hand, was a consummate professional and handled the whole thing very well, even bringing the conversation back to the question he didn't let her answer.

As an actor myself, I can truly relate to her nervousness on the release of "Caberet." The truth is, NO actor ever thinks his next movie will be a dud, everyone in this business is here to make a profit, and hopefully, a classic, which in this happy case, WAS the case. This was one of the finest screen adaptations of any Broadway musical I have ever seen, one for the ages.

There's something so serene and calm about this interview that I don't think I've ever felt while watching a talk show before. Modern late night talk is optimized to perform well in the instant gratification and rabbit hole based algorithms of TH-cam. It's so overstimulating compared to this. Not to mention the tactile sense added by the flaws in the tape. I can only imagine what it must have been like to turn on a TV in whatever decade this was put out. In an age when media was a means of rest rather than a strictly transactional process through which to numb the pain of the working class.

Especially when he goes off on his story about embarrassing himself in German, asking Liza "Do you really want to hear this story?" What's she going to say? Then, she actually says she didn't finish answering her question, maybe she's going on too long, probably dying to say, "Maybe you're going on to much, Dick!"

Taking all that time to tell HIS dull anecdote, preening about his talent with languages and accents, instead of interviewing his much-more interesting guest.
