Who else is here still loving Liza in 2024?! She is still one of my all time favorites. Such a lovely interview too. It was nice seeing Dick Cavett again too.
She can't help it, even if she wanted to. She is SUCH a star. I have adored her my entire life. (And met her once for a rather lengthy encounter and she was EVERYTHING I wanted her to be and could not have been nicer.)
My Dad saw her in 1972 Liza with a Z on Broadway. He loved her and her Mothet. Me and Momweny to see the King and I wurh Yul Brynner and Debra Kerr. That was awesome too.
I don't care what anybody says. Liza Minnelli used to sing her entire *ass* off. She wasn't as refined as her mom, but she definitely matched her in conviction, and surpassed her in enthusiasm.
@@kermittheefrog5762 I'm not denying the greatness of Judy. She could be very enthusiastic or very solemn or somber, yet always riveting. Liza, on the other hand, could be singing about suicide and make it sound like a proud anthem. Listen to the work she did with The Pet Shop Boys. She lacks Judy's vocal skill, but always exudes pure joy when she performs.
Sometimes I think Liza's life is an extension of her mother's life. They are both such phenomenal performers, it's likes Liza's life completes Judy's. I love them both.
It's incredible when Liza performs, the power and vulnerability, it's just a little piece of life flung at you. And after the song's over she's exuberant and nervous and she's so real and divine all at once.
Saw her at Lake Tahoe, at Harrahs in the late 70's. She was fabulous. There is no one like her nor will there ever be anyone like her. She and her mother were absolutely one of a kind.
Watching Liza sing this song wasn't just a performance to me, it was an emotional experience. I only wish that her mother was around to see this wonderful moment...
This was taped just 27 years after WWII ended and it’s fascinating to see how connected they were to that awful time. Today, it’s ancient history to a lot of young folks.
What a great talent! I loved teaching Liza how to drive three-on-a-tree when we attended University High School and drove to Palm Springs for the day over spring break.
One of my favorite Liza songs, she owns it. She's the best. I saw her at Harrah's Tahoe many years ago and she was so fabulous. She's has a hard road and I'll always love her.
Whoa, my heart was racing when she finished. I feel so lucky to have seen her live twice in Hawaii. At the beginning of her successful career in the 70's, then much later with Sammy Davis Jr. and Frank Sinatra.
Dick Cavetts interview are always like a talk over dinner or coffee kind but only with an audience. Intellectual and unpretentious like today's talk shows. Love Liza in Cabaret!
This is the kind of phenomenal performance that so many of us want to watch over & over & over...She makes every syllable, every note, every phrase take on a life of its own. She gives her all & her all is an artistic, emotional, & performing universe.
Liza is authentic. This performance is hard- a TV audience and a pompous host, but she just grabbed the audience away and nailed it. Slow, start slow....then reel in the lyrics and that tone of not blowing out a band, just singing with a few pieces accompanying you...and winning over the audience and validating a song that Sinatra and others stole from her and the overall, wonderful work called Cabaret. Liza, YOU ARE A GIFT TO THEATRE AND THE ARTS.
I’ve never thought he was pompous. Some of the others of his time were, very much, and still now. I see him as mindful, thoughtful, sensitive and someone who holds back to let the star be the star. Gentle. All the others in my opinion, have sleazy sensibilities. I see a little magic between Liza and him, if he were like the others I suppose he would try it on. Ever a gentleman on stage (I hope that’s true back stage ) A star in his own right, possibly that’s why he always has a great rapport. I’d like to see him being interviewed. I’ve such a girl crush on Liza here. What an electric performance. Damn, when her voice near rips the mic. Chills every time. ❤️
Through her speech and actions (her mannerisms) I can see the little girl in her. Even so, she's most definitely a woman. And oh man the eyes. The eyes.
Hope l am not stepping on anyone’s toes but l have to be honest. Everything she sings is wonderful. I’ve loved her since l was “teen-ish?” I could and have listened to “Mammy” hundreds of times. To me as far as her stage performance in “Liza With a Z” she really showed me or us how phenomenal her vocals are. Liza is so gifted in her talent. Her stage presence! I love everything she sings and her mother? She is an icon as well and that’s putting it lightly. I love them both ❤ Amazing!!
its so crazy ive watched arrested development a million times and am only just now finding out that liza minnelli is actually someone way more famous than just lucille 2
WE JUST LOVE HER AND THAT GREAT BIG TALENT.......ONE PACKAGE>>>>>HER MOTHER AND HER FATHER>>>.SAW HER IN PERSON 1974>>>>>COULD NOT MOVE....!!!! WAS LIKE A HUGE ENERGY RUSH>>>>>>>COULD NOT BREATH.......LOLOL.....WAS BEYOND WORDS...
Her observations about Germany and Germans at the time was very interesting. I hadn't realized Cabaret had actually been filmed there. ("What war?" Wow)
Ppl need to stop comparing her to her mother I cant even imagine how horrible tht would have been for her to not be thought of as her own person and artist
I just see raw talent and an artist who holds nothing back. Incredible performance. I wish they could do something about the grainy picture but we’re lucky to have this at all.
Liza displays all her emotions up front. I love her.
That made her and her mother so great. And better than other singers with technically better voices.
Imagine seeing this in the 70s and not being able to watch it a million more times on TH-cam.
That actually happened to me with "Sweet Charity" and the "Rich Man's Frug" dance...
Saw it 55 years after...
Who else is here still loving Liza in 2024?! She is still one of my all time favorites. Such a lovely interview too. It was nice seeing Dick Cavett again too.
Here!
I'm here today.... again
Greatest voice ever !!❤❤❤
Watch the video on here of Kristen Chenoweth sing this song.
@@trvman1 She is awesome!!
She can't help it, even if she wanted to. She is SUCH a star. I have adored her my entire life. (And met her once for a rather lengthy encounter and she was EVERYTHING I wanted her to be and could not have been nicer.)
All of the above and she comes across as a genuinely nice lady
My Dad saw her in 1972 Liza with a Z on Broadway. He loved her and her Mothet. Me and Momweny to see the King and I wurh Yul Brynner and Debra Kerr. That was awesome too.
So so true. Every inch the superstar. And a class act - kind through and through. ❤
No digitizing, no Auto-Tune -- just a phenomenally gifted artist singing her heart out. Fantastic talent. Such a joy to watch.
Lipsynching though
@@robertromero9488 they only do that now they wouldn't try and do that back then
@@thomaseide8767 they absolutely did that back then check the mamas and papas
@@robertromero9488 She is NOT lip-synching
Liza singing live!!!
At 25 you are at the top of your game and she had it big time!
Our girl!
I don't care what anybody says. Liza Minnelli used to sing her entire *ass* off. She wasn't as refined as her mom, but she definitely matched her in conviction, and surpassed her in enthusiasm.
She didn’t not surpass her in anything but is a close second
Mint E Fresh surpassed her in enthusiasm? watch any of judy’s live videos where she’s singing an upbeat song. she radiates joy and enthusiasm!!
Liza Minelli is like one of the most respected performers in the last 80 years, lol who says those things
@@kermittheefrog5762 I'm not denying the greatness of Judy. She could be very enthusiastic or very solemn or somber, yet always riveting. She yells.
Hey folks... she's not just a daughter... damn, she's Liza!!! How's them apples!!!!
Great point! While she is the daughter of two very talented people, she is a raw talent that is not to be ignored or denied!
With a Z!!
Sometimes I think Liza's life is an extension of her mother's life. They are both such phenomenal performers, it's likes Liza's life completes Judy's. I love them both.
What a beautiful thing to say! ❤️
While singing, there are moments in facial expression that Judy really shines through. It's a hereditary thing! Just perfect!
Drumr, I noticed that, too. The exact same thing. It was eerie.
I kind of caught the same thing. Glad you mentioned that aspect.
Really, SO amazing. So many singers have covered this song. But it truly BELONGS to her. She is living this song!
I totally agree. I'm a big Garland fan, and it was eerie to watch Liza performing. It was at times like looking and listening to her mother.
Brilliant performance...none compares to Liza Minnelli doing this song "Maybe This Time" anytime anywhere. ...It'll always be her song...that's it.
Right!
Now that's a Broadway voice!
They broke the mold. As epic today as the day she performed this live.
It's incredible when Liza performs, the power and vulnerability, it's just a little piece of life flung at you. And after the song's over she's exuberant and nervous and she's so real and divine all at once.
Very nice and true comment.
A 25 year old Liza Minnelli oozing with talent
The bit at 2:23
where she hits her head and rolls her eyes is a really great camp moment. But wow, what a performance. Just great!
Liza quickly became her own superstar..... Bless her.
She is one of a kind of Singer / Performer ever to live, during the 1970's... Cabaret was hers! 🥰
Saw her at Lake Tahoe, at Harrahs in the late 70's. She was fabulous. There is no one like her nor will there ever be anyone like her. She and her mother were absolutely one of a kind.
She "performs" it to death. I've watched this 10times now and it just gets better.
There is no song that could fit a singer better than this one embraces LIZA... FOREVER LOVE YOU
No song could fit a singer better than "Over the Rainbow" embraces Judy. Not even close.
This was the Liza I fell in love with those many years ago. Never stopped.
Liza is one of a kind- nothing comes close to her talent.
Take notes children, this is how it’s done ❤❤❤
Hear, hear!
She's truly one of the greats of Hollywood. An amazing vocalist and performer.. Watching in the UK.❤
Watching Liza sing this song wasn't just a performance to me, it was an emotional experience. I only wish that her mother was around to see this wonderful moment...
Judy and Liza -- the TWO all-around GREATEST ENTERTAINERS in HISTORY!
This was taped just 27 years after WWII ended and it’s fascinating to see how connected they were to that awful time. Today, it’s ancient history to a lot of young folks.
No lip singing or auto tune. Just pure talent! Just listen to the Audience respond ❤
Such a huge and profound talent, like her Mother, in a whole different way. And needless to say, what a woman!

I just don't have the words to describe her talent! You make me believe Liza!
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
You're right about that! Amazing how much she sounds like her mother but is also so gifted in her own right.
PowerTuber 3.0 so true!
Every performance is a master class
Yup
She is a genius for the way this singing makes me feel.
so amazing. we have such a lack of kindness and talent in today's entertainment.
Liza was always so well-mannered and kind. She hugged her piano player. Judy dud a great job. Never displayed diva-like behavior, then or now.
I wondered where can I search for Liza singing this song : no frills just her in relaxed atmosphere and a microphone yep she was fabulous, ,
What a great talent! I loved teaching Liza how to drive three-on-a-tree when we attended University High School and drove to Palm Springs for the day over spring break.
Really?! That's so cool!
If I were in the audience I would be on my feet. Wonderful performance! Brought tears to my eyes.
Her version of her mothers The man that got away. She very deserved the Oscar for Cabaret of course.
Definitely.
This took place at a time when a genuine superstar talent was heading to the stratosphere.
One of the last of the great belters.

This Lady is WOW😯 I love her and her mother's singing it's so heart felt. New York New York will forever be a favorite.

Every time she performed it was all her, a hundred percent. Every cell in her body, every bit of her heart went into her performance.
Liza was great in Cabaret and love this song from the movie !
I can't help falling in love with her voice!!!😍
Liza always thrilled me and she still does. That voice! She is adorable as well, cute as a button.
I love this song. I didn't know it was written for Liza. Of course, she owns it
It predates the original Broadway production of Cabaret. She recorded it in ‘64
Kander and Ebb wrote it for Kaye Ballard, not LIza.
I can see and hear Judy at times during this performance ♥️
With Minnelli and Garland heritage the lady excels! How special to live in her era!

Pamela Bergner maybe he is just a product of his time? I was born after his show, and when I watch old clips, I definitely see some pompous comments.

She is acting while she sings. It is brillant.
