    My Mom rented from a guy that was know for saying people ruined his apartments and taking them to court to get more money. I told my mom take pictures! He’s a bad guy. She did. Sure enough two months later she gets sued. He said there were holes in the walls etc. my mom was mortified. My mom is very smart and she meticulously put her case together. She had Pictures, she made a binder, you name it. She paid the ten dollars for a jury, because she figured everyone has rented before and knew what it was like. My Mom crushed this guy, I even saw jury members laughing at some of the things this guy was saying. I remember what pushed it over was, she asked him how long was it before new renters moved in. He stated three days. If the place was so horrible and the whole place had to be repainted and re carpeted, how in the world did you get it ready in three days. Guy had no response. She won!That guy was so mad, he cussed all the way back to his Cadillac. My Mom was great!

      There used to be a guy in the city that I live in that was a slumlord. If you were five days late on rent, he would take you to court. When we moved here we checked out some of his properties (not knowing who he was) and you had to bring in your own stove and oven. The people in the office said it was cheaper for the renter if they bought their own oven! Eventually he did have to sell all of his properties. And I heard his girlfriend had shot him and he had been in the hospital at one point because of it, 🤣

    I recently rented an apartment that a guy had made at the back of his house. I usually would never rent from someone who lived on the property, but I was in a bind. Anyway, after I moved out I waited for my deposit to be returned, but he never sent it. I called him after 6 weeks to ask about it and he told me he was keeping it because I had left the place in terrible shape. That was a lie. I sent him a letter with a printout that I had attached. It was from the state's renter's laws and it said that if a landlord didn't tell the tenant that he was keeping the deposit within 30 days he forfeited any and all of the deposit. He paid me.

    I'd say Stacy wasn't the only villain in story number 1. Retail stores are famously bad for shitty scheduling practices. They'll demand you be available to work 24/7 and ready to come in at the snap of their fingers and only schedule you 20-30 hours (or less) with shifts that could be open/close/mid/anywhere and different every day. Sounded like OP's store was being extra shitty about it.

    • @seanfrye7052
      @seanfrye7052 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      She was the villian for trying to force hour changes when others couldn't. The store wasn't exactly saints, but to the people working, she was rigging a bad system. Add together the fraud, and you can add up they didn't like her, with what ever antic she would pull

    • @Maninawig
      @Maninawig 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Remember that OP is probably telling you 10% of what Stacy did. Sure, a store can have shitty practices, but that does not make Stacy innocent for using every angle she could to get her way.

    • @shutterchick79
      @shutterchick79 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@Maninawig That's how retail workers survive. Especially with the abusive schedule practices. Sometimes a retail worker is forced to be underhanded to get a schedule that works for them. A consistent, predictable work schedule that you can live your life around is a reasonable expectation of a non-emergency response job. Retail managers act like they're curing cancer instead of just selling consumer goods. Only emergency response type/ER doctor jobs should be on call. And this ex-retail worker will get off her soap box.

    • @rebeccaallardice7577
      @rebeccaallardice7577 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      We are getting only part of the story. What if Stacy had a kid? Open availability is impossible for single parents. Companies that demand it yet don’t give full time are the real villains.

      @Maninawig 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@shutterchick79 when has it been ok for anyone to abuse others just because they were one abused themselves?
      Stating "that is what people do cause the place is abusive" does not make it right when there are many avenues to fight for fair workplace practices.
      I remember working in two different fields where the lack of job security became so bad that they brought in the Union to fight for them. But even before that, the general work force did not become abusive towards each other, rather fought the abuse.

If I have a USB thumb drive in a key chain and that thumb drive gets stolen, you can't use it.

    scuffs on the hardwood floor don't need replacing the whole floor. If it's actually hard wood, it can be sanded and stained. Or simply buff it out if it's superficial. The dude was lying through his teeth. Also, the $2000 charge for a cleaning crew is unheard of for an empty apartment, how big is your place? 5000+sq ft, then maybe. I rented an apartment and gave a $600 deposit. When I moved in the tub was filthy and there were marks on the walls. I took pictures then sent the property management company a list things needing repair. When it came time to renew my lease I opted out and moved in with a relative. I cleaned the apartment and shampooed the carpets. The manager did a walk through and signed off on it. I was surprised to get a bill for $300 to clean and replace the carpets rather than my deposit. I wrote off my deposit and refused to pay so they took me to court. In court I called the apartment manager as my witness to attest the place was clean, showed photos of the apartment before I moved in then after I left and provided proof I cleaned the carpets. They ended up having to return my deposit in full. Plot twist the manager of the building was a friend of mine. I had used them as a reference in the rental application and they advised me to take photos and document everything wrong with the apartment.

      I figure a lot of landlords just schedule cleaning and repairs as standard procedure and figure they can keep the deposit to pay for it because a lot of renters won't bother fighting it, or they can claim normal wear and tear is enough justification to keep the deposit. My roommate and I shower once a day like normal people, and when the water heater broke the landlord whined it was because we take too many baths. He has said things like this so many times, and throws childish tantrums every time he has to repair his building, that we're sure he's going to keep it deposit, and say damage that was here when we moved in justifies it.

Companies want to buy your time and interviews are essentially trying to make you sell it as cheap as possible and companies love to push that its rude to talk about wages so they can pay people whatever they want to different people doing the same job. Trust me, I used to work for a company that did that and they went under. By the sounds of things this store didn't have any strict scheduling requirements and it wasn't until corporate got involved then they implemented these measures. Now Stacy probably could've been a lot more kinder about it but since she decided to go a Karen-esque route, she got what she deserved.

Case in point, my work schedule has to, more or less, be on the same days, and start at the same hour, as those my mother works - reason is, she can drive, while I can't, so when she gets in is all the earliest I can clock in, and it is easier on my mother to take me in when she has to work. I worked in an auto parts store for 2 years and for no reason they fired me,so I talked to a couple of people who were good customers (street mechanics) and a bunch of regular repair shops in the area that liked me because I always went out of my way to get them the odd ball part's that were hard to get and eventually the word got around and 15 places took they're business elsewhere and one of the counter guys came into work went out to do several deliveries had a serious accident involving one of the company truck's and was arrested for DUI,the owner paid for everything out of his pocket so that the insurance company didn't know, except the vehicle that the guy hit told the insurance about everything and shortly the shit hit the fan-the owner was sued because of the guy being drunk and also had a suspended license, everyone in the store was told that the store was told Saturday afternoon that they would be closed Sunday, when everyone came back to work Monday all the locks were changed and signs on the door said that they were permanently closed,I had a good laugh about everything that transpired and I had a good laugh

Also, his former employer and nephew were the pots calling the kettle black because they were calling him a thief while committing theft, themselves. Some people are real pieces of work.

    I was watching and the story about the renting came up. Just a nice tip that I learned over years of watching my parents when it come to renting properties. NEVER trust that you'll get your security deposit back. ALWAYS take detailed photos (that have the date and time stamp on them) and if there EVER is an issue while you're renting someplace, ALWAYS have a copy of you telling the landlord, via email. Meaning, if you tell the landlord that there is an issue, make sure to follow up with an email so you have that paper trail. Take before and after pictures. Always. If you see something while moving in, such as a scrape of paint, etc etc take the date and time stamped photos, and be sure to email the landlord about it. Save it all. Then when you're getting threatened like that, you can tell them to take it to court, and have all your paperwork with you. As long as you keep detailed records (any photos need the date time stamp, and emails/texts/etc) you should be good to go if you're to get your security deposit back. It's tedious but it saves you in the long run when it comes to scumlords like that. When you're done cleaning, take pictures of the cleaning, and then a picture of the keys being given back, or an email follow up on the receipt of the keys. This way you have the pictures of how YOU last left the building. Most of the times, non of this is needed to be worried about, but it's better safe than sorry when it comes to that risk.

    I had a lazy coworker named Stacy. She lived out of town, about 2 hours away. It's a graveyard shift. We were tasked to work together, just the 2 of us. One time she comes to work, decides she's sick and goes home. This was before I got to work that night so I was told about it by the rest of the team. We all had the same thought. She saw that we had to do 3x the amount of work as usual and didn't want to do it. So I was stuck doing it by myself until someone else on the night crew could come help and we were given a short deadline to finish. It's basically stocking heavy things on shelves in a store. So physically demanding and knowledge of where things go is needed. I had to instruct the person who came to help and we still finished faster than when I had to work with her. For this specific set of products that we had to work with once a week, she always picked the stuff that almost always had the majority of it rewraped on the pallet and put away with a forklift. The other stuf had to be put up in the overhead 1 by 1. Which meant carrying 20 lbs up an ladder over and over by myself. The one time I got to what she normally did before her and she had to do my part, she complained, demanded my help. Another time she took the ladder I was using when a shorter latter was all she needed but didn't want to go find one. By this point I was tired of the crap, so I held on to the ladder (I'm at least a foot taller, twice her weight and younger) and told her to stop being lazy. She shoved the ladder at me, told me I'm lazy because I'm fat, and stomped away. Well eventually she got fired and I still work there in a less physically demanding position. Lol

    Story 1: So this company suddenly changed their policy stating that ALL employees had to be available for ANY day and ANY shift without regard for people with children, people who attend school, people caring for those with medical needs, etc.? AND they don't pay their employees enough to be able to live WITHOUT food stamps? And I'm supposed to side with the OP because they got bent out of shape when the coworker refused to change their shift and they got called into work so they made them lose their food stamp benefits? OP could have simply said no to covering the shift. The company KNEW the coworker wouldn't be there because she told them as much. They should have planned accordingly. OP wasn't required to cover that shift. Instead they thought it was a good idea to effect this coworker's ability to possibly feed her children (I didn't see if the coworker has children or not, but considering how difficult it is to get food stamps without them, it is safe to assume she does, also the 8-3 shift request indicates school hours). Nope, sorry, OP was a complete dickhead, regardless of whether or not the coworker was committing "fraud" or how much her boyfriend supposedly made per hour.

    My husband worked at a computer repair shop in college and was extremely good at it. He was also working on his Microsoft Certifications because he wanted to make IT his career. It was the late 90s, so people with those certifications were in high demand. My husband worked there for a couple of years with no problems (Other than finding child sexual abuse materials on a client’s computer and helping get the guy arrested and deported back to his home country that had even worse punishments for possession of child sex abuse materials than the US.)
    Then he discovered that his company was selling Microsoft software without the proper licenses. Which was a big deal. He tried to get the owner to pay for them, but the owner refused. The company made a lot of money by not paying for them. My husband reported it because he didn’t want Microsoft to find out and then have his name sullied by it. He got fired for it, but he found a much better job that came with an awesome mentor that really helped my husband with his career. My husband was allowed to work part time during the school year and have a flexible schedule, and he was hired full time after graduation.
    So thanks you lying, scummy bastards at the computer store. They went out of business within a year of firing my husband. He did most of the work and supervised the other lazy repair guy who didn’t bother to do things right. The store also ran a local internet provider service (back when people did dial up you had to have a local provider to get you onto the web before big companies took over. Before the computer store offered service everyone go online by calling through the local library). They couldn’t keep offering the service without my husband’s expertise. He reads computer manuals for fun and knew a lot for a teen boy.

    The 1st op did not have to blow off their plans and family to cover for Stacy. And Stacy is just fine setting her availability. She said she wouldn't be there for X shifts after the schedule change. Just because an employer can fuck with people's schedules doesn't mean it's ok.
    Edit: and the ebt was none of Op's business either.

    • @crappozappo
      @crappozappo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You sir are correct about all the things you just said.
      Op didn't have to come in that day; it's like...have some self-respect you rube. Your employer cares so little about you, but you'll sacrifice birthday plans for them? Absolute rube.
      Stacy should be able to set her schedule; and if the store doesn't like that, well, for better or for worse, in America, they have the right to fire her for basically any reason.
      And finally: Oo, someone getting food stamps when they technically shouldn't qualify? Everyone who reported her for that is an ass. It's FOOD. What's next--reporting someone for "stealing" Medicaid because their car is too nice? No matter how nice Stacy's car is, she was spending ebt on FOOD. For Pete's sake. And even if she somehow wasn't spending it on food--who cares?? People are doing way worse fraud all the time and they don't care!
      Stacy may be an annoying coworker, but people's indignation is aimed at the wrong target. The correct target is the employers. The correct target is a government that disallows unionization and doesn't provide citizens food (and healthcare).
