    Guys, do not spray this thing all over the bike - it will mean zero brakes. It will make your bike shiny, but use it with a rag AFTER the cleaning.

      Which "thing" are you referring to? The soapy water? Should you spray it on the chain and the derailleur?

      This is just superb, been searching for "my bicycle chain fell off" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Viyackson Yenacob Review - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my buddy got great success with it.

    Even if somebody doesn't have a garden, isn't it better to take two buckets outside and wash the bike on the street?

  • @nkcad6361

    Good guide! It's true that not everyone has a garden or a big toilet for bike washing. In order to prevent making a mess in my home, I have employed a dry clean method. First, leave the bike to dry up completely. It's no good to deal with wet mud. Cover the floor with a few sheets of big newspaper. Use several brushes to wipe out all sand and mud. A bigger brush for everything except the drivetrain, a smaller brush for gaps and hidden areas. Then another one for the drivetrain. You can also use a vacuum pump with pipe brush to give a final clean up. Afterwards, wipe thoroughly clean with WD40. There are also some disinfecting wipes available in supermarket. 3 sheets can be adequate for a roadbike. Finally, wrap up the newspaper and dispose. If still necessary, a wet bike wash after these procesess can avoid making a mess of your home. Cheers.

    I just tried the soapy water bottle tip on my balcony this morning, and saved so much time ! Very useful when you live on the third floor like me ! I usually have to go up and down the stairs 2-3x with the bike, the hot water bucket, the rack and the accessories, and I end up cleaning it less often...

    +SickBiker I also wrote it on Facebook, but if you wax your bike you will not have to clean it anymore! This is because wax repeal water so the dirt will not be able to stick on it. If it stick as soon as it dries up the dirt will falls down leaving the bike clean with no effort! The same is true for the chain (I use paraffine wax and mineral oil (AKA paraffine oil 8 to 10 carbon alkane) 35/65 approximately).

    • @hannahorodenska4317
      @hannahorodenska4317 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      tomuno1 This just not work as you may think. Bike wax doesnt help with any dirt,even on a roadbike doesnt works and after rainy ride there are lots dirt spots.

    • @tomuno1
      @tomuno1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sorry, but is almost 4 months that I ride my MTB every day, no matter the conditions, in either parks or streets. I am not saying that is shining as just washed, but there is no accumulation of dirt and what it remain is only the sign of the water drops where the dry, and that is it. For me that is perfect, since it look clean (not shiny) and I save the time of washing it! However, it take almost twice the time of a single washing, but I think that is well worth it.
      For the drivetrain: in the last three weeks I have done 2 races of 8 miles each one for a total of 16 miles in dirty and muddy condition plus my everyday commuting of about 8 miles, so I am around 180 miles total and the chain is still as smoth as when new. Sincerely, I am very impressed about it and I will never go back to any oil based lubricant, which they attract dirt, they make your hands black as soon as you touch them, and they were the component faster.
      Last tips, I have switched from grease to 'wax/paraffine oil 65/35' in all my bike bolts, which keep them clean and quiet. As an example, my pedals with the factory grease lasted 1 week of street riding before starting creeking, and when I removed them the grease was already black. With the wax is more than a month that I am riding it and no noise so far.
      I hope you will switch as well because it make the life so much easier

    It works somewhat but it took me around 2 hours(well it was even dirtier than the bike in the video). But I still think you need to wash with running water in the end to get rid of the soap, especially in the brakes and chain. The good think is of course that you dont have to deal with the mud and sand at your bathtube.

    I always clean my MTB without water, I've peviously destroyed all of my bearings spraying my bike with a garden hose. I just take an old T-Shirt or towel and rub the dirt off, but it only works when the dirt is dry. Only on the drivetrain I use a little bit of water.

    Usually i put my road bike in the bathroom, 1) spray it from shower, 2) use liquid soap and hard side of old scotch brite sponge to clean dirt, 3) spray again, 4) use liquid soap and soft part of sponge, 5) repeat other side, 6) dry it.
    Usually it takes no more than 10 minutes. Well, road bikes are easier to clean, so mtb may be quite slower.

    So you put the soap on the chain, wipe off with a rag and put the lube on? With the soap still in the insides of the chain?

  • @mtbboy1993
    @mtbboy1993 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You should get protection for the frame, and cleaning the bike with the rag like you did, will sand down the paint job. I recommend getting Allmountain style frame guards, and Allmountain style fork guards, and were not possible use 3m automotive vinyl wrap. I use Muc off brushes to clean my bike with Muc Off cleaner. if needed I use Muc off degreaser of the chainring and cassette. as for the chain I rarely clean it as it never gets super dirty, as I lube it and wipe off any dirt. I have don't sue a chain cleaning device, but Some times I use finish line grunge brush.

    So in my apt I take my bike to basement carpark and remove all the big stuff. Then I put into my condo shower spray with muc off, let sit and spray with shower. The problem with your scenario is leaving all that chunky mud on bike, you have to remove it one way or another before bringing into apt, car washes, park hose there's always some covert bike cleaning option etc. Your method is wayyy too much work, in addition your inevitably going to leave micro scratches due to caked on dried mud.

    It should be mentioned that wiping the oil immediately after applying it defeats the purpose. You should let it sit for an hour or two before wiping. And even then just wipe the sides of the chains, as the most important thing is that the rollers are oiled, so you never want to wipe the top and bottom.
    Not to mention that your method for applying it is extremely wasteful.
