This has really opened my eyes, I am quite an impatient person and really want things to happen at the moment I want, so I am one of those people who bought Pearl, White, and Platinum with such a high price. Seeing this I realized that I should cherish the games I have and spend my time with those and wait until the prices drop. I really want to complete my collection. I was also thinking them as a reselling object in the future but that was the greedy side of me, this video has really made me realize that I shouldn't think like that and that I should let my love for pokemon take over instead of being greedy. I hope more people watch your video. It did a great job for me and possibly many others.
Yea, i didn't get into pokemon until about 2016 (shield is my first main series game) so i get pretty anxious when i hear peeps talk about hiw good the old games were
hey same! I haven't fallen for the inflatable prices yet, the closest I got was paying 300 for a used GBA SP that included every GBA game except Sapphire loose, but that also came with 11 other games as well as a carrying case and wifi accessory (along with some posters for the included games, about half the games' manuals, and 2 guide books for the Kanto remakes) ignoring the weird ramble I went on there, I've been so heartbroken to see these prices skyrocket- I've loved these games my entire life and have never been able to get the physical editions because my mom would constantly insist on flashcarts and piracy, so the fact that at the moment it's reasonably impossible to buy these games is just depressing. Hopefully all these prices deflate soon! Glad this video gave some good suggestions as to where to buy this stuff at a somewhat affordable price too, it's so hard to find this stuff for anything reasonable nowadays
welp, major part of the problem is: 1. Their are only a limited amount of games produced in the whole world. Minus the non english ones and you have even less cardridges. 2. Many cardridges were once owned by children, who didnt always treat them as well as an adult would do. So many games got lost or broken or they were just in a poor state e.g the front cover got badly damaged, making it less desireable for collectors. 3. Many (lets say) enthusiasts and people with high nostalgia collect not only one but multiple games. So a few people have a lot of cardridges -> less cardridges for the average dude who just wants to play a childhood game. Similar to the GPU Scalping problem during Covid.
“Stop emulating! It’s bad!” meanwhile: Edit: I’d like to share my experience with the matter, I was lucky to have held on with my copies of both heartgold and soulsilver, the prices were a bit bonkers back then, but it was to a much much lesser extent.
Imagine Nintendo bothering to remake a game with dual screen functionality for the switch to try to make $40. I would not want them to do that, and they don’t wanna do that
They're not too bad if you spend time searching. I just bought a genuine pokemon platinum cartridge for $55. The only downside is I didn't get the case since that alone sells for about $40
@balls I bought a copy in 2009 (but lost it) so I've seen an original cartrige before. I also have other pokemon games to compare it to. The nintendo logo is spelt correctly on both sides and has the dot at the top right corner of the o. It's European so it says NTR-CPUP-EUR on the front and the back black code starts with CPUP. It says "Original Nintendo Seal of Quality" which is correct for Europe. Most fakes copy the USA cartrige. The white code on the green part is spaced in 3 parts (fakes often put a number/letter/symbol on every column) and ends with Y10-01 The down arrow on the front is not indented or raised, just slightly shiny like all my other nintendo cartriges bought from stores The sticker on the front has some browning on the top showing its over a decade old The words "The Pokémon Company" are in bold, and the colors of the sticker aren't washed out. It also works completely fine so far, and the main drawback of reproductions is that they often don't work properly at certain points of the game
Unfortunately, the prediction of prices going down was incorrect. In fact, it’s gotten worse. I look on multiple websites, and no matter where you go, people are starting to realize how much their stuff is worth. Or, the scalpers start rushing to these sites and buy up all the good bargains to resell for crazy amounts. We live in a society of instant gratification. It’s odd that all of sudden I’m nostalgic and want these games again. However, I feel these prices will continue to be high and unreasonable.
Me personally: I firmly believe this bubble will burst one way or another, it will never last forever. Of course no one knows when because - if old crashes were any indication - it will happen suddenly and without warning.
except... these games are NOT worth what people want for them. Emulators are free, Reproduction carts are virtually identical and play the same as a regular copy (they can also be made at home with some tools from said free emulators). Don't give slimy fucks your hard-earned money for something that's not worth it. In this type of situation, where nintendo refuses to port these games or keep them accessible, and 90% of websites are preying on instant gratification - pirate. pirate everything. it's the same game - is the nostalgia worth the money?
At this rate, i'm ready to say fuck it and buy a reproduction cart for 15$ and call it a day. I *really* want to get black and white again but i'm not about to drop hundreds of dollars even if I could. What sucks is I lost my copy of pokemon black that had a gamestop event victini because my little brother smacked my game case and that was the game I couldn't find. I know people prefer the authentic games (i have nothing against that) but man... these prices are insane.
@Null Dork I genuinely hope it doesn't come off as cold and indifferent if I say that I haven't got a Switch, so I really am not in the know on that issue.

I still have my copy of pearl with the original save file, all my elementary school friends with whom I've traded are still in my pall pad. So no, I won't be parting with it.
This is where I think getting roms is justified. I'm not saying you should pirate a game on release, but once a game's been out for longer than a decade, is long out of print, and is unavailable for first-hand purchase physically or digitially, it's fair game.
I stand firmly on the position that piracy is ethical once the company no longer officially sells the game through any means. Even if you obtained a legitimate copy at that point, the money wouldn't go to the studio or developers. So there's no difference if you download the rom or not.
Way before the pandemic I remember seeing an ebay post of this guy selling what seemed to be 40-50 authentic platinum cartridges with the GameStop stickers still on the protective plastic case. For $80 each.
Yeah, Nintendo ain't making any money off of BW2. If you have a moral objection to pirating a ten-year-old, out-of-print game, then you're either a fool, a coward, or both.
yeah, the "lost sale" argument just doesnt track when the publisher isnt selling the game anymore. Wether you buy a DS game from a flea market or download it off a rom site, Nintendo doesnt see anything from that anyway
@@Straight_White_Fatherly_Figure No one is trading gen 4 Pokemon in the modern day. That is such a ridiculous thing to care about when you can get trade evolutions and QoL fixes within an emulator and go onto Showdown if you want to battle your friends.

I am genuinely shocked that the prices were out of control. I've kept my old copies of Pearl, B2 etc. Incidentally, I have a story of the best "price" I ever paid for a game. I have a friend at work who bought both Sword and Shield. He offered to give me Shield in exchange for a homemade chocolate cake. Yes, that cake recipe is that good.
Yesterday, I saw a store selling a copy of Pokémon Diamond, in its original package, for $70. I bought that game when it came out and still to this day can't believe how insanely expensive the games as a whole have gotten - hell, I can't even find a decently priced copy of Alpha Sapphire, and that game was (relatively) recent!
I'll never sell my own games. I still have my Pokémon Red and Yellow with the books and box from waaaaay back when they first came out. They're my childhood and my team's are on them😁😊
This is really true the worst part is that if your not careful you can end up purchasing a fake one it happened to me three times when I try purchasing a copy of Pokemon Emerald at GameStop. The store managers felt so bad that they ended up giving me the Final Fantasy 7 remake for free.
@NS 317 A lot of them come from china. Copyright laws are different, demand is high and unsuspecting people will easily go for the cheaper, most popular looking listing. Good business. See the top ebay listings for any gen 3-4 game. You know those top listings "from the united states" that sell loose cartridges for cheaper and usually have 100s of sold and 100s of left to sell? Bet my ass 90% of those listings come shipped straight from china. But little Timmy's mom didn't know the difference between "Nintendo" and "Nlntendo" 😔
With a little bit of research and attentiveness, knowledge can get you a long way to ensuring you purchase legitimate copies and not copies from scammers trying to pitch it off a legit. So anyways, here you go for future reference. m.imgur.com/a/1epF5
You are very underrated! I agree with everything spoken here. Im a long term pokemon fan since Gameboy and Gamecube and Pokemon has been my way of opening up to the world. I grew up a mainly lonely childhood because I lived too far away from town, my mom's job made it hard to take me places and my dad worked too. Pokemon was my thing that made me happy because it gave me something to do after school because I barely had friends and my neighborhood at the time had no other kids there. I thank pokemon for being that thing I needed to keep me happy when I felt alone!
I went to a huge launch event for the game. I was soooo hype. And when I finally got it, I decided to take a break after a couple hours of playing. At the time, that seemed normal to me, but looking back on it, that was the first Pokemon game where I decided to take a break. Up until then I had just played each new Pokemon game every hour that I was able to until I beat it - only taking breaks for a couple hours of sleep, with my DS on my pillow lol
@NS 317 tbh the launch of gen 5 was terrible to most nostalgia driven fans cutting the dex to 156 gen 5 pokemon is a bad move no matter how you put it, pokemon has always been about the ability to choose your own team and to complete it with a variety of multigenerational mons. had the dex been expanded as in bw2 people would be looking more fondly at gen 5 from start. to this day you cannot catch pikachu native to unova in bw2 because game freak assumed you owned the older games or you used the dream world feature to get it that being said, its kinda a trend for old generations to make massive cuts to dex on the generation launch and to keep the dex gated for main campaign (cough d/p having 151 regional dex, smaller than in gen 3)
@@Fiendoh Was that really such an issue? I BARELY remember making a (very brief) fuss over that design choice. I always play with the newly introduced Pokemon anyway so the game making me chose new monsters was a non-issue for me. I took me years to realize what they were actually doing in that it was a sort of soft reboot to the series and I loved them for that. What helped is that all the other Pokemon were still available in the Post game or via game transfer. That's the way it should be done, not straight up deleting them from the game data like a certain recent game.
@@Fiendoh As a new fan introduced to pokemon around 2013, I remember bw was such a hated game by many that there were many copies floating around ebay and I snagged a copy to try out. I became a huge fan of pokemon after that without knowing anything else. (even watched the bw anime. Scary I know)
@@MezzoForte4 it apparently WAS an issue because starting from the gen 6 kanto gets pandered super hard. nostalgia drive is stronger in this community than you think
Regarding selling your childhood stuff, I totally agree. I’ve kept a binder of Pokémon trading cards with the first 151 Pokémon for around two decades now. This includes many cards that I could sell for at least $100 today, but I wouldn’t part with them. They represent an important part of my life.
Prior to the release of Sinnoh remakes I had this weirdly high hope that we'd get some sort of re-release of the original Gens 3-5 in a package for the switch. Other game series have done this, and aside from changing things up for the bottom screen, how bad could it be?
I wish along side the remakes they’d start making legacy collections like with capcom and just let us have the old with the new without it being locked to virtual only
That would be amazing. That's why Megaman games aren't over the chart These companies are good at realizing when people are going to start feeling nostalgic of their old games and instead of letting the market got overboard, they make a remaster and at the end of the day they make more money and you get a good game for a good price as well
@@Saixjacket What are you talking about? All the Megaman legacy collections were super highly rated and had very positive reception. Megaman's a great example of this being done well.
Agreed with you completely. I used to buy used games all the time just because I finally got around to wanting to play them. Enter 2020 … not anymore. Although an excellent point was made that really made me think: why now? I no longer have any issue waiting for this insanity to pass.
The problem that comes with using an emulator until you get a Pokémon game yourself is that you can’t really move a Pokémon from an emulator to a regular game… or at least you can’t do it easily. Why emulate your first Pokémon game if you can’t take them with you to another game.
@@jonathangillooly9361 I have a problem and dont have a problem with emulators at the same time. I would only let some use one if they had bought a good amount of other pokemon games to support game freak. Otherwise its just piracy
I believe a good portion of the DS Pokémon games have IR blasters and sensors in the cartridges, others have step meters in them so you can "take your pokémon on a walk". These exclusive hardware features are probably a big factor in the prices. You wouldn't get the full experience from just a rom.
@@jonathangillooly9361 True. But who wants to buy a sealed version of Fire Red for $25k just to trade their Charizard over to the newest games? It's funny how I remember seeing sealed copies of Emerald at my Best Buy in abundance and now they're worth more than a car.
5:23 made me chuckle. I think the general consensus is indeed that Emerald, Platinum, HGSS, and BW2 are the four best Pokemon games, and in my opinion with good reason.
Four best Pokémon games that you can play on your DS that is, for four best Pokémon games that you can play on your 3DS, everything changes, ORAS replaces Emerald, XY replaces Platinum, SM replaces HGSS, and USUM replaces B2W2, since they all utilizes the 3D graphics and also the only ones that have a 3D effect feature if that’s interesting for you, and as we all know, early 3D Pokémon games have better graphics than 2D Pokémon games, even modern 3D Pokémon games doesn’t even have the aforementioned 3D effect, only the early 3D ones does, and as the 3D effect is on the rise again as people grew more nostalgic over this, more and more people buy 3DSs as they have that feature, and some of them end up buying the aforementioned Pokémon games like XY, ORAS, SM and USUM that have the 3D effect, i have two of those, XY and SM, but either way, the prices of XY, ORAS, SM and USUM is starting to skyrocket.
@@candyneige6609 You're an idiot. DS games are far from gen 1. It's also a common consensus that they're vastly superior. I presume you're a kid or definetly not over 20 to understand this.
"The prices won't stay that bad, give it a year or two" now prices are just as bad, if not worse. You also did not mention the reproduction side of the market, making any purchase extremely risky.
Yep. I gave up and managed to trade some other overpriced collector stuff in another hobby in exchange for the games. They felt they got a bargain for the collectible, and I got the game by trading a collectible I haven't been able to sell for 2 years. I'll have lost money on the trade with the collectible being worth $100, but I was about ready to just donate it to goodwill, so this worked out for me, in my eyes.

As a collector for more than 15 years, I can safely say only the "flash collectors" as I'd like to call it go "oh no". Fuck, waited 8 years for a virtualboy for the right price, 5 for a Jaguar, etc., etc. The way I see it most of the "flash collectors" aren't really collectors, they're pretending to be collectors and actually are investors. A healthy collector doesn't need everything yesterday, they just want it someday. Still pretty late....2017- 19 was the best time...simply due to the release of the Switch...people were giving away their DS and 3ds collections for extremely cheap...also Wii U as well....I was able to get many notable games for $5 -$10 dollars
Almost any game you bought in 2020 was a lot less expensive a few years ago. Yes, you might have payed less than the game is going for in 2021 but right now is the highest peak used games have probably ever seen...
This video aged pretty badly. Prices are worse than ever and, with the closing of the eShop, we'll probably start to see the 3DS titles rise in price too. Hell not too long ago a cib copy of Emerald sold for $800!!! If it's not just someone manipulating the market by buying it from themselves, then it's people genuinely seeing that and thinking it's a worthwhile deal. If anyone wants to experience these games, either emulate or buy a fake copy
Hopefully someday soon videogames can be treated like library books , where anyone can have easy access to them to try or at least experience, instead of scalping and buying something you don’t end up liking or scarcity from time and lack of ports/tech
Yeah, I’ve considered we need to organise as gamers to get public institutions to carry games because since there’s no blockbuster, my local library is actually a great way to watch Blu-rays or read omnibuses because they only started carrying them in the last 5 years.
Check and see if your public library network has game listings! My local one doesn't have them physically on the check-out floor, but they come up in the online search to request and check out. (Your mileage on this tip will vary heavily depending on your library.)
The thing that’s really gotten me about this whole increase in gaming during covid. I’m all for new people getting into gaming, but the companies that decided to release new products during a global supply shortage (there is a shortage of everything from raw materials to workers to process them) and then have all of the new products get swiped up by scalpers is just the worst thing that could have happened.
It's increased because there is a business buying up all the retro games and constantly selling them at a 20% markup which is causing manipulation in retro games.
Bought Leaf Green today for $72. Crazy prices these days, but I don't see them going down. We're a year a from your initial estimation that prices will drop. We can evaluate again in 2023, but I'm confident prices will not drop. These games are not in production, and less of them exist every day. Reproductions are in full swing, and I believe prices will continue to rise 4/29/23 Update: Price charting has LG at $98.52
I copped myself an authentic Emerald for 50 bucks, I replaced the battery and it’s in stellar condition. It is possible to find these games for reasonable prices, but you have to put hours into actually searching/knowing where to look.
I was fortunate enough to receive heart gold with the pokewalker in mint condition for Xmas last year from my bf, which belonged to him from when he was a child. That was pretty cool.
It is nintendo's fault. When I was at USA in 2009 there were still fresh loads of Sonic Rush Games, that were made in 2005 because SEGA makes a lot os waves of their to keep with demand. And nintendo, as we know don't do that.
These prices aren't due to a lack of supply. Did you watch the video? These games sold millions of copies apiece. They aren't at all hard to find if you know where to look. Pokémon games aren't rare by any stretch.
@@ChaotixBR You do realize that they made the amount to meet demand back then right? Stores were alway packed with those games for the longest time until the DS was discontinued. They had no way of knowing that everyone and their grandmother wanted to play pokemon several years later . That's like being surprised that stores weren't ready for surge of interest in the pokemon TCG as who would expect 30 yr old manchildren to be fighting over something intended for younger audiences? The " They should've thought ahead of time" mentality is gross. Nothing like having them print an over abundance of games when interest in the games was at its lowest point cause maybe there will be interest in it. If you were referring to the fact that they should let you order new copies of their older games off their website , that'd be an interesting concept though I doubt they'd do ever do that. Definitely would be a way to kill the price of those games.
@@qactustick In an indirect way it is. Other companies may reprint their games at a later date. Doesn't really happen with Pokémon and people know this. Once they stop printing the Pokémon game, people can hoard with all they got and watch the magic numbers go up. Game runs out from suppliers so now the price is up to individual sellers and at this point the value becomes an illusion.
@@mikesterepic6355 what if the games break or get lost? I’ll only have expensive games to buy instead of just reprinting the old games or reprogramming and releasing them for pc/switch
Here's a demonstration of how fast this escalated: In 2019, I found a authentic cart of Heartgold at a yard sale. I still have my old one, so I put the new one in my old case and sold it online for $45. Then I used that money to buy a copy of Soulsilver for around the same amount to replace the one I lost years ago. Now, that same game is now going for over 4x what I sold it for just two years ago.
a year later, and the prices are the same. the remaster point was a good one, but unfortunately the gen 4 remasters were terrible. platinum/hgss will remain the best way to play gen 4 :(
I’m so happy I still have my childhood copies of Pokémon DS games. I noticed the prices went insane and I thought about cashing out at one point. Luckily I didn’t.
Sell high buy low. I’m a few years you’ll be able to buy back these games when the people buying them are done reliving their childhood and need extra cash to pay for living expenses
It’s really good to hear that about your parents dude. Mine are the same. They bought me my video games to get the most out of them. playing with my little bro. I won’t sell my console and games because they are quality that I would want my kids to experience or my nieces and nephews.
Another part of the craze is that the 3ds store is shutting down, so Pokémon bank is going away. Transferring that Jirachi from colosseum bonus disc to RSE to DPP to BW/B2W2 is coming to an end, so all these previous Gen Pokémon transferred to Home are eventually going to become “Rare.” Just think if Gamefreak never remakes Johto. Having your original Pokémon stamped with that will eventually become super rare in the traded community. I’m currently replaying my ds games making sure I have everything I’d ever want transferred to bank to home, as I personally like seeing Sinnoh or Johto on my Pokémon without one of the new stamps, inside special Pokeballs that I could potentially breed with one day. Once the 3ds/Wiiu store closes next year, that’s when I believe we’ll see a decrease in prices for these games. The new 3D Pokémon games need to learn from Platinum/HGSS/BW/B2W2, as this era was peak perfection for Pokémon.
Should mention that Bank will be free now, and available for everyone for some time. HOWEVER, the pokemon company stated this was a thing they will do until whenever, so it may be the case Bank will be shut down inevitably, locking away all pre-GO/Switch pokemon forever unless TPCi makes an alternative.
Great video explaining the situation with older Pokemon game prices. I was shocked to see that B&W and B2&W2 was so expensive. I wanted to add them to my collection again but when I saw that they were going for around $100-200. I just decided to wait for drops in price but it does take a while. Hopefully my search for them goes successfully.
Man, about a year and a half, maybe two years ago, I purchased sun, moon, ultra moon, SoulSilver, x, y, platinum, black, white2 all for under 40$ American each. Glad I managed to reacquire them before team rocket blasted the prices off 😀
Thank you for talking about it. Most people don't want to talk about it, because they only care about the value. Incidentally, prices for Pokemon games have been on a downward trend for 2 months now.
The fact that these prices haven't gotten down since this video was released (and in some cases shot up) is proof that they're here to stay for a while, at least until Nintendo gathers enough wits to bank on gamers wanting to play older titles. But I doubt Nintendo will bring these games on to modern consoles before they decide to remake them. They simply haven't shown any interest in doing either.
Oh my God. I did buy Black, Black 2 and Plants vs Zombies for $20 combined. Best purchase of my life. Though I won't say the same for my purchase of Mystery Dungeon, Zelda Phantom Hourglass, and Platinum. Spent $150 bucks on all three last year.
I've always heard people call out other resellers, but not themselves. Reselling games to fund their own collection is exactly what is making the prices go up because they will hold onto their doubles until they can sell them for enough to make back their money (many times on eBay)
Man, my friend kept a factory sealed Soul Silver from when it was new, she got both HG and SS when it came out but only opened/played Gold. I've pointed out how much money she could get for it now, but she does not want to break her collection. I completely understand that, respect the collection. Still quite a crazy gold rush going on.
I bought super prices peach with a rumble Pak for my sister super cheap and I tell her she needs to at least play the whole game or let me have it because she’s likely to forget about it despite how valuable it is
@@DubsBrown theres a lot of fake super princess peach copies out there. Like its weird that's the DS game that has counterfeit problems. A legit one is a prize.
@@Otigyrum so true and it’s really fun. At this point I’m considering ‘liberating’ it from my sister because if she notices I can always give it back, but it’s sad that she hasn’t touched it in like ten years.
That mentality is exactly why the prices keep growing The reason why these games are worth so much is because you can transfer them to Pokemon bank, Once Pokemon banks shuts down these games will lower in price Besides these games sold millions of copies
@@SMCwasTaken this isn't true at all lol. Sure the pokemon bank is a factor, but 99% of people buy these games as per nostalgia and to collect. Nintendo refuses to re-release the GBA games to the switch, and the DS games cannot be re-released without major revisions due to the split screen. The gamecube games have licensing issues which makes it hard to re-release them. Loose games are still expensive but complete in box copies are a different story. They sold millions of copies, but of those millions; millions were opened/ heavily damaged and realistically less than 5% of all those sold copies are boxed still. (even less sealed). These are collectors items, if you want to actually play the games there are thousands of ways to play it without paying prices for authentic copies (emulation, repos, flashcarts,etc...). My pal owns a retro video game store and his #1 selling "retro" games are GBA pokemon games. People are and will keep on paying to re-live their childhoods. I only see these going up as people buy these games to store away/display.
Ok, pinning this because it's my new favorite comment
Yea, i didn't get into pokemon until about 2016 (shield is my first main series game) so i get pretty anxious when i hear peeps talk about hiw good the old games were
I'll never sell my white 2
hey same! I haven't fallen for the inflatable prices yet, the closest I got was paying 300 for a used GBA SP that included every GBA game except Sapphire loose, but that also came with 11 other games as well as a carrying case and wifi accessory (along with some posters for the included games, about half the games' manuals, and 2 guide books for the Kanto remakes)
ignoring the weird ramble I went on there, I've been so heartbroken to see these prices skyrocket- I've loved these games my entire life and have never been able to get the physical editions because my mom would constantly insist on flashcarts and piracy, so the fact that at the moment it's reasonably impossible to buy these games is just depressing. Hopefully all these prices deflate soon! Glad this video gave some good suggestions as to where to buy this stuff at a somewhat affordable price too, it's so hard to find this stuff for anything reasonable nowadays
I’ve kept everything off my pokemon soulsilver set including the big box and pokewalker from when it was new. Im so glad i kept everything

loved watching emerald fall roughly 50 over like 2-3 years just for it to slam right back up to 200 in like 2 months
welp, major part of the problem is:
Similar to the GPU Scalping problem during Covid.

hello my old friend nice see you again.
It is time to take action.
Imagine how much money they would make if they dropped the DS games on virtual console for 40$
They would make a lot of money and just like how it happened for Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow.etc cart prices would go down
How much would you pay for BW ?Or HGSS?
10$ would be fair
Imagine Nintendo bothering to remake a game with dual screen functionality for the switch to try to make $40. I would not want them to do that, and they don’t wanna do that
I'd easily pay 25 bucks per game if they are the DS ones. I'd love to have Platinum or Soul Silver again.
2 years later, the prices are still crazy...
They're not too bad if you spend time searching. I just bought a genuine pokemon platinum cartridge for $55. The only downside is I didn't get the case since that alone sells for about $40
@@cozyyoshi2156how can you tell whether it’s a genuine copy
@balls I bought a copy in 2009 (but lost it) so I've seen an original cartrige before. I also have other pokemon games to compare it to.
The nintendo logo is spelt correctly on both sides and has the dot at the top right corner of the o.
It's European so it says NTR-CPUP-EUR on the front and the back black code starts with CPUP.
It says "Original Nintendo Seal of Quality" which is correct for Europe. Most fakes copy the USA cartrige.
The white code on the green part is spaced in 3 parts (fakes often put a number/letter/symbol on every column) and ends with Y10-01
The down arrow on the front is not indented or raised, just slightly shiny like all my other nintendo cartriges bought from stores
The sticker on the front has some browning on the top showing its over a decade old
The words "The Pokémon Company" are in bold, and the colors of the sticker aren't washed out.
It also works completely fine so far, and the main drawback of reproductions is that they often don't work properly at certain points of the game
@CozyYoshi that's lucky lmao you won't get deals like that all the time pokemon platium rn is atleast 90 to 130

Piracy is the best policy
At this rate, i'm ready to say fuck it and buy a reproduction cart for 15$ and call it a day.
I *really* want to get black and white again but i'm not about to drop hundreds of dollars even if I could. What sucks is I lost my copy of pokemon black that had a gamestop event victini because my little brother smacked my game case and that was the game I couldn't find.
I know people prefer the authentic games (i have nothing against that) but man... these prices are insane.
@That one annoying Tornado Siren - You might as well homebrew and save money. Software doesnt fail, reproduction carts can fail.
It’s crazy how the gameboy games can go through the wash and still be completely fine
Except that one time where someone threw Pokemon Sapphire into a lot of water and dumped the rom to make a video about it... Lol
oh man, i had that happen with my copy of platinum years ago, and it still works to this day

This is where I think getting roms is justified. I'm not saying you should pirate a game on release, but once a game's been out for longer than a decade, is long out of print, and is unavailable for first-hand purchase physically or digitially, it's fair game.
100% agreed. Pirating is bad, but really the lesser of 2 evils (the other one being scalping/getting scalped)
Wether you buy a DS game from a flea market or download it off a rom site, Nintendo doesnt see anything from that anyway

back in 2013, it felt impossible for there to be a bad pokemon game
I went to a huge launch event for the game. I was soooo hype. And when I finally got it, I decided to take a break after a couple hours of playing. At the time, that seemed normal to me, but looking back on it, that was the first Pokemon game where I decided to take a break. Up until then I had just played each new Pokemon game every hour that I was able to until I beat it - only taking breaks for a couple hours of sleep, with my DS on my pillow lol
@NS 317 tbh the launch of gen 5 was terrible to most nostalgia driven fans
cutting the dex to 156 gen 5 pokemon is a bad move no matter how you put it, pokemon has always been about the ability to choose your own team and to complete it with a variety of multigenerational mons. had the dex been expanded as in bw2 people would be looking more fondly at gen 5 from start. to this day you cannot catch pikachu native to unova in bw2 because game freak assumed you owned the older games or you used the dream world feature to get it
that being said, its kinda a trend for old generations to make massive cuts to dex on the generation launch and to keep the dex gated for main campaign (cough d/p having 151 regional dex, smaller than in gen 3)
@@Fiendoh Was that really such an issue? I BARELY remember making a (very brief) fuss over that design choice. I always play with the newly introduced Pokemon anyway so the game making me chose new monsters was a non-issue for me. What helped is that all the other Pokemon were still available in the Post game or via game transfer. That's the way it should be done, not straight up deleting them from the game data like a certain recent game.

Prior to the release of Sinnoh remakes I had this weirdly high hope that we'd get some sort of re-release of the original Gens 3-5 in a package for the switch. Other game series have done this, and aside from changing things up for the bottom screen, how bad could it be?

The problem that comes with using an emulator until you get a Pokémon game yourself is that you can’t really move a Pokémon from an emulator to a regular game… or at least you can’t do it easily. Why emulate your first Pokémon game if you can’t take them with you to another game.

I believe a good portion of the DS Pokémon games have IR blasters and sensors in the cartridges, others have step meters in them so you can "take your pokémon on a walk". These exclusive hardware features are probably a big factor in the prices. You wouldn't get the full experience from just a rom.

The way I see it most of the "flash collectors" aren't really collectors, they're pretending to be collectors and actually are investors. A healthy collector doesn't need everything yesterday, they just want it someday. Regarding the question of "why do people want these games now? You've only had 10+ years to buy them until now", you mentioned it yourself at the beginning of the video.

Gonna have to start trying local options, I just want Black 2
You'll get some fire deals. Trust me
I once got a Black 2 along with a DSi for $60 CAD
You can find stuff like that too
@@anasmumin2405 try offer upp
Long as you stay persistent you’ll find a good price- there’s a lot less competition when internet auctions aren’t involved
I bought a complete copy for $140 🥵
Tbh I don’t care what I get I just want to play either a gen 4 or gen 5 game
Facebook has now mostly entirely converted to a secondary ebay, with the prices taken directly from the average prices you can find there.
a year later, and the prices are the same. the remaster point was a good one, but unfortunately the gen 4 remasters were terrible. platinum/hgss will remain the best way to play gen 4 :(
Emulator, lets goo
been playing all the pokemon games on my steamdeck, best way to imo and you just emulate them all.
I’m here 2 years later still seeing black 2 selling 150+
I’m so happy I still have my childhood copies of Pokémon DS games. I noticed the prices went insane and I thought about cashing out at one point. Luckily I didn’t.
Sell high buy low. I’m a few years you’ll be able to buy back these games when the people buying them are done reliving their childhood and need extra cash to pay for living expenses
It’s really good to hear that about your parents dude. Mine are the same. They bought me my video games to get the most out of them. playing with my little bro. I won’t sell my console and games because they are quality that I would want my kids to experience or my nieces and nephews.
I am SO GLAD I still have all my older gen 4 and 5 games!!
Same
2 years later, COVID is long gone, and the prices show no sign of dropping anytime soon.
They did drop. The dropped by like 45$-65$!!!
Another part of the craze is that the 3ds store is shutting down, so Pokémon bank is going away. Transferring that Jirachi from colosseum bonus disc to RSE to DPP to BW/B2W2 is coming to an end, so all these previous Gen Pokémon transferred to Home are eventually going to become “Rare.”
Just think if Gamefreak never remakes Johto.
Best comment here. Don’t understand how he could miss this
Bank is gonna be free now. Hopefully these prices will go down sooner rather than later.
I’m confused Pokemon bank cost $5 for a whole year whats so expensive about that
@@ralpbeez8414 Meanwhile me using PKSM on my hacked 3DS
Man. Watching this a year after you released it and prices are still high for some of them. Hoping they go down soon but it’s still ridiculous
I was part of this pokerus. I bought too many games during this pandemic..
You’re right about that, don’t even understand how we convinced our parents to buy a 50 dollar little disk.
Oof remember buying CIB Black 2 for $21, Heart Gold CIB with the textured box for $40. Two years ago.
Oh my God. I did buy Black, Black 2 and Plants vs Zombies for $20 combined. Best purchase of my life. Though I won't say the same for my purchase of Mystery Dungeon, Zelda Phantom Hourglass, and Platinum. Spent $150 bucks on all three last year.
Lmao i wanted to buy white 2 2 years ago when it was 30 bucks. I didn’t and now I regret it since its price has like tripled now..
I've always heard people call out other resellers, but not themselves. Reselling games to fund their own collection is exactly what is making the prices go up because they will hold onto their doubles until they can sell them for enough to make back their money (many times on eBay)
that’s normal for the economy. scalpers ruin it
Man, my friend kept a factory sealed Soul Silver from when it was new, she got both HG and SS when it came out but only opened/played Gold.
Bro it’s been 2 years and the prices are even worse now 😭😭😭😭 gotta Buy em all before it gets worse!
That mentality is exactly why the prices keep growing
The reason why these games are worth so much is because you can transfer them to Pokemon bank, Once Pokemon banks shuts down these games will lower in price
Besides these games sold millions of copies
@@SMCwasTaken yeah had to just yolo it and got heart gold and platinum off ebay! 100% worth it in my opinion!
