      Ecumenism has different degrees... The most extreme would be to say even the Hindus worship the same God (false). Followed by, Muslims and Jews worship the same God (also false). Followed by wanting to unite with Rome, who had popes will to participate with the above groups (grossly errant practice). Followed by having communion with the non-chacedonian Orthodox Church or Church of the East (still wrong if there is no ecumenical councils held to iron out theological issues). So, which is the Georgian Church? I imagine the last?

    A question, Fr Peter:
    What would you recommend for someone that is considering joining the Church, but has no chance of physical attendance?
    I live in Spain. There are zero Orthodox churches in my city, or near. And I can't move.
    Would you recommend attending a Catholic one for the time being? Is there any possibility of online contact with a priest? I know it isn't ideal, but I cannot do anything else.
    Thanks a lot for your attention, Father.
    Your videos and guidance are greatly appreciated.
    Al.

      If you attend a Roman Catholic church, you are a Roman Catholic.
      There are ways to pray and live an Orthodox life even if you don't live near a parish. Look to Alaska and St. Herman. He wasn't a priest, and for a time they didn't have a priest. In fact there's communities today that still aren't served by priests regularly.
      Do the reader services yourself according to the church schedule. Maybe start a community. Eventually if God blesses, you'll be given a priest.

    We aren't donatists.

    • @OrthodoxEthos
      @OrthodoxEthos  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Donatism was the belief that the personal sins of priests and bishops influence the Mysteries. Heresy, schism and personal sins are not the same things. As St. Basil the Great says in his Canon 1, when a priest or bishop goes into schism they lose the grace of the Holy Spirit and cannot bestow the Spirit on others through baptism or ordination. St. Gregory the Theologian stated that we shouldn’t be concerned about what priest administers the Mysteries as long as they are a priest of the Church and haven’t been deposed. Priests and Bishops who remove themselves from the unity of the one Church or are deposed and removed from the Church, do not serve true Mysteries. Bishops of the Church who may be sinful or teach things incorrectly still have true Mysteries if they haven’t been deposed and haven’t broken off into schism.

    This is again a deceptive proposition. The answer is no, but that does not mean you should not actively distance yourself from heresy.
    ...to those who knowingly have communion with these aforementioned heretics..
    Canon 15 actually praises people who do so.

    • @OrthodoxEthos
      @OrthodoxEthos  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +21

      How to respond to heresy requires guidance and spiritual discernment. One can “flee” heresy and also end up totally cut off from the body of Christ. Just because one justifies themselves with Canon 15 doesn’t mean they are applying it correctly and automatically blessed by God. A tree is known by its fruits, and the 20th century provided many examples of undiscerning zealots whose breaking of communion resulted in more harm than good.

    Father, what happens if through a Patriarch or the jurisdiction strays by decreeing that we're now in communion with the Latins? I know that this has already happened with a schismatic group i.e. UOC. And I know the GOARCH long ago allowed Ethiopians to commune if there wasn't an accessible Ethiopian church.
    What do we do as orthodox? Continue to support that jurisdiction or Patriarch financially?
    These things are nothing new I understand.

    • @OrthodoxEthos
      @OrthodoxEthos  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      St. Mark of Ephesus is an example for us. He went to the council of Florence with the Latins and defended the Faith, only breaking communion when his brother bishops formally entered into communion with the heretical Pope of Rome.

      How has that happened with UOC? You mean OCU most likely. In that case, I'm hearing concelebrations and what not but never evidence. The MP has a Synodal decision that they will give communion to papists and their people can receive communion from papists. That's never been rescinded. It's been put on ice (though that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, I know it does in places from testimonies.) They have synodally embraced *all* of ecumenism and condemned anti-ecumenism as well as treating the papists as a sister church. Most likely accusations come from them.

    • @frankschaeffer8153

      @@OrthodoxEthos Florence really was a completely different situation. The Orthodox delegates were sent there by the Orthodox Emperor for specific historical reasons (threat from the Hagarenes.) Engaging in debates with heretics isn't against the holy canons or a betrayal of the Faith. Bow there is no Emperor, no such reason, and the hierarchs are sent by the KGB / masonic / J powers behind the curtain. And virtually all of ecumenism including basic membership in the WCC is against the holy canons and it can easily be argued it's a betrayal of the Faith, especially at a time when there's plenty patristic witness against it and an anathema by an Orthodox Synod. That Synod by the considered it wrong to have any intercommunion with those in the WCC.

    For the total devastation of the so called "TO" position look no further than the New Testament. It clearly states that the priests' heresies are not an obstacle for God's grace. The God-killing Messiah-rejecting high priest Caiaphas had the Holy Spirit's gift of prophecy, for example. Also, the apostles didn't find the heresy of the priests serving at the Jerusalem temple to be an obstacle for performing sacrifices and praying there.
    The "TO" position is clearly anti-Biblical. That's why they hate the Holy Scriptures so much.

    • @esoterico7750

      The Old Testament is pretty that grace was withdrawn from the sacraments of the Old Testament… that’s what it means when it says God “didn’t accept there sacrifices. Further the New Testament explicitly says groups will be cut off in the future. If we accept heretical hierarchy as orthodox we have the same position as Uniates
