Thank you so much for showing your practice bees before you get to the bee that you painted in the video. I am a beginner and I always look in awe at artists on TH-cam. Sometimes I forget that to get to where you are, there is a lot of practice involve. You make it look effortless but to get to that level of effortless-ness a lot of effort is required in advance :) I love the reminder to keep on practicing.

YES, YES, YES, YES, YES! As a beginner, THIS is exactly what I am looking for! Small studies, pictures, whatever, where I can learn concepts, techniques, develop skills, develop confidence, repetition, variations, explore ideas, be able to learn from mistakes without feeling I have totally ruined a picture, thrown away expensive paper, pigments, hours of effort, feel frustrated and like a failure. Yes! THIS is what I am looking for and why I enrolled in your Patreon.
    PLEASE! MORE OF THIS!!!

Louise, you have managed to magically meld your beautiful painting style with a little bit of looseness and it looks fantastic. I’d love to see you do some some more paintings like this. But, please never change all of your paintings. We need to continue seeing the paintings you create showing all the intricacies. No one can paint as beautifully as you.

When you dropped water in to get a bloom I was shocked because it left these dull parts of the painting. Now I see how you were able to use that and paint on top of it like negative painting with the darker paint of hairs that you were able to see because of the lighter space beneath it. I think I understand and can try this myself. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for being honest with us I remember doing what looked like a easy enough watercolor that someone did on a card for Christmas and followed it to a T and couldn’t understand why it did look good but my daughter said it was beautiful so I kept on determined to make a few to send out I look at the fifth or sixth and realized it was really starting to look like the one in the video and wondered if they had done a few before filming. So thank you for confirming what I thought. You make me want to keep going.

I am loving your videos! I've been oil painting mostly and recently received watercolors and I was excited to jump in - so far it's VERY different haha and I'm more of a realist painter and trying to still catch that realism with watercolors without losing the watercolor style is certainly fun and challenging. Your videos really help me as your style is very similar to mine!

Lovely! So HAPPY I found you! I had dreams of becoming an artist in HighSchool. I Was “strongly” discouraged from doing so, rather encouraged to become a BIOLOGIST instead. Thankfully, I chose Zoology. Decades later I have notebooks and old assignments filled w sketches of “specimens” from my field biology studies. They’re simple black and white ink and pencil sketches. Recently, I decided to try my hand at my old passion-ART. Having no direction, I decided to take inspiration from years of studying bees, wasps, spiders, ants... and any other Insect to cross my path in biology class. I’ve never been taught to paint, however. I wanted to use watercolor to turn my specimens to art. Create an art field journal! I scoured TH-cam for a tutorial on the basics... or just ANYTHING! I found little more than moths and butterflies. While butterflies are indeed beautiful, Bees, wasps and even the lowly scarab beetle aren’t given just credit. Beetles shine with iridescence and metallic colors that I would think EVERY artist would be inspired to create! Don’t even get me started on the “personalities” of bees and wasps! YOU have captured that personality so perfectly in this painting!! THANK YOU!!!! I FINALLY have an artist that sees through my color lenses and inspires me! Beautiful work!! Thank you again!!
