This technique is so awesome! I feel like even as a beginner i can vastly improve my paintings doing this. I’ve started working on birds recently and my latest attempt only has the background wash so this is perfect for me to practice. I’ve just been randomly browsing various watercolor videos so I’m happy I chose this one before I got started on the body! Thanks so much for your helpful instruction 😀

Excellent - I have seen many negative painting videos that demonstrate how to do it, but with no context. Yours is one of the best examples I've seen of where this technique is useful. Watercolour gives a beautiful subtle effect to those feathers that would be hard to achieve in any other medium. Well done, Louise and thank you for sharing.

Hi Robyn, Thank you very much! What a lovely place to live. I thought I did pronounce it Arshes ....it must be my accent and not saying it clear enough. I used to call it Arches but one day a few years ago I went into an art supply shop in Sydney and I the shop attendant was calling it Arshes. He told me that was how you pronounced it. So I've been trying to remember ever since 💙.
Hi Robyn, I hope you can help me. I've just read your comment again and I've been thinking about how the shop attendant said the word Arsh- he didn't add the 'es' on the end. I remember now! So can you tell me when you say Arshes do you leave the 'es' off the end? Thank you!

Hi Louise. How did you become such an amazing artist? Are you a graduate of art school. I read you are a retired teacher; what did you teach? So happy to have found your channel.
Thank you Mary! I completed one year at art school but I had to leave because of money problems. I taught acrylic painting classes for 10 years to adults and then I decided I wanted to become a school teacher so I went off to university to get a degree. I taught in Primary schools (elementary) here in Australia. My kids loved doing art with me. 💕

Finally I understood what exactly what is negative painting.. I always thought it was just painting like oil or acrylic painting type without too much waters 😗 I don’t know if you will understand what I just said now 🙌🏼
