you are absolutely correct, dolphin resort, rocky ridge, and frozen forest are goated designs. it's a shame we'll probably never see them get to flourish in a game with good controls and mechanics. also rocky ridge has the best music in the game
It was kind of funny to me going back to replay them and putting them in order thinking that the first three are the best ones, but I replayed them all 2-3 times and couldnt come to a different conclusion
Great video! Honestly it’s pretty sad how these tracks, especially the better ones are stuck in this game. From the sound of it, even with normal controls this game is really not great. It’s sad honestly because I think it could’ve been great if it wasn’t designed for connect. Some of these tracks seem super fun, Bhutto even the best ones feel really held back because of the game’s kinda barebones mechanics. The whole standard and expert versions are neat but it feels like a lot of variety has been lost. Great vid as always and can’t wait for the next one!
Thanks for this! I think this game is very underappreciated. I definitely like it more than Zero Gravity and TSR. It had a lot of potential to be the best in the trilogy if it functioned properly or if it wasn’t even made for the Kinect. Unfortunately, even the best stages are limited by this as they are more on the basic side compared to other tracks in the series. Even with the no kinect patch, it's still limited because the tracks and even mechanics were designed with the Kinect in mind. So I think a ground up remake with controller support would fully redeem it if that ever happens. Even the story mode and presentation I really like, more fitting for a racing game compared to the other two. The themes in the other two did not really suit the story and felt out of place, though I appreciate their ambition. The cutscenes are very expressive, and the opening cgi is great. Although I do feel having fully animated cutscenes would have made the Metal Sonic moment more memorable, but I'd rather have pngs than still models standing and expositing or those heads over a map in Forces. And the environments are some of the most creative in the series! I mean, you have a wild west and prehistoric ice themed tracks in a futuristuc racing game! It's criminal that this game turned out the way it did! The graphics still hold up! It even has an online multiplayer! Anyway, what's next? You could rank the tracks in Sonic Speed Simulator. There's some Riders stuff in there.

@AstralKat It would be interesting to see them modded in the first game, though they'd have to be downgraded somewhat as they do take advantage of being on the Xbox 360, a next gen console, and of course reworked to fit the different controls, like drifting.
