    Just bought 4 brand new centre caps direct from Ford last week funnily enough. Well worth paying the £8.50 or so per cap. Cheaper than some thieves are selling them for on eBay.

      Agreed, how they can sell them I have no idea for more than Ford!

      @@usuallyfixingtinkering Its profiteering pure and simple. I hope these unscrupulous sellers never sell them.

    Selling your spare part for what you paid was a good message. Spot on

      No problem it had to be said. I Just don't see the point in trying to profiteer, where does that get you? It's supposed to be a community hobby where people help each other.

    Daily driver to work my mk1. 135,000. Got a cheap mk2 in my garage to work on. Getting that ready for road, then back to restoring the mk1.

      cracking buddy I love to hear that, great plan on a cheap mk2 while they are cheap and still run with minimal issues.

    Thanks for this very useful video. I had my control arms and springs replaced 6 months ago based on your advice ( even though they looked fine) and the ride quality was super smooth afterwards - especially speed bump. So they must have replaced the rubbers as you suggested. Have just ordered a genuine Focus badge from Ford Direct £9.99.

      I think they had potentially if it's a smooth ride :)

    A useful video. My experience trying to get a tltailgatechandle has opened my eyes to some parts becoming unobtainable as ford don't have these now. Have bought 2 sets of mats a few month back and going to buy some of these. Thanks.

      That is news to my ears on the tailgate handles! Something that can snap off, hopefully an aftermarket manufacturer starts making them as the patents are all finishing.

    High5! :-)
    I have the same Febi engine mount in my Mk1 (with Febi trans mount and Febi torque link). Awsome pieces. Zero vibrations, quiet silent interior. I love them.
    (btw Febi sells spark plugs too, I use four of them, no:13460, 1.8 Zetec starts like new, with 200k miles on it)

    The scrapyard I always go to had a few years back at least 2 rows of double stacked focus mk1 cars. Now they only have one! Today I have gone there to strip as much as possible. Especially the rubber hoses are interesting. I don't need them now, but maby in the future things fail and I have them spare in stock. I want to keep my 02 focus running as long as possible. Currently 287.000 km on the clock

    I've had one of those Zetec hubcaps stolen before on the street, and even more bizarre was a cheap £3 windscreen wiper while I was in a secure NCP contract paid for car park that was primarily used by well paid workers who could easily nip to Halfords or even ASDA or Lidl for a new wiper blade. I remember driving home and a light shower and then suddenly my driver side window was getting scraped. I had to stop, lever the wiper arm out and drive home in the rain. Thankfully very mild. What a total POS who stole it.
    Local scrappies are now totally employed with, ahem, undocumented workers who don't know English and they no longer allow you in so you have to ask for anything. The gatekeeper wanted £10 for a piece of plastic Zetec hubcap, except ALL of his hubcap bucket had every tang snapped and no springs so totally useless.
    Ford brand new is a relative bargain. I did pay ebay for one about £5 plus £2 P&P.

      @usuallyfixingtinkering  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Stuff like hubcaps are never in great condition 2nd hand, especially when new ones are still cheap. I have my hoard stored away in packets.

    The rubber fuel hose of my Focus got dry and cracked, causing a fuel leak that was a pain to deal with because I needed to get all the fuel out of the tank to replace it. The substitute didn't last more than a year. I'm replacing it again. I don't know if the issue is the bad quality of the aftermarket one or the high ethanol percentage they add to the gasoline here in my country. One factor that might afect it is that I always left my tank full. I think I'm gonna start to keep the tank at mid capacity from now on.

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The filler hose! Yep that's what they will do more frequently as most mk1 owners arnt aware that this is the most vulnerable area in terms of ethanol.
      Tip - never fill the tank on a mk1 to the brim for this reason and risking the flooding of your evap charcoal canister onbthe side of the tank. Once it's flooded you will get a warning light

    Thank you Andrew for the advice on the fuel filler rubber pipe. A few months ago a total POS did a hit and run on my rear side panel that includes the fuel filler cap. It appears to be a glancing blow and transferred some white paint and scraped my paint to the undercoat but not the metal. It has a mild but large deformation of the panel.
    Knowing the rubber fuel filler pipe is so tight in this area makes sense as to why I am now often smelling petrol fumes in and outside the car and also no "pssshhhh" pressure sound when I open the cap to fill up.
    I guess the pipe is still connected but no longer totally sealed from atmosphere. Am I right I can get to this through the wheel arch?

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If there's little pressure in the tank it could be a pinhole in the evap flexi lines by the filter or engine bay but having fumes can mean a cracked rubber filler pipe, it doesnt leak possibly because the crack is north not south, something overlooked. Yes the whole assembly twists through the drivers arch but... it will scrape the arch lip!

    Great video mate I appreciate it a lot these videos. Did you buy the st170 rear springs brand new or used ones? I got a 1.6 zetec and I would like to fit the st170 springs on mine. Also I´m thinking about fitting the rear disk brakes from an tdci. What do you think about it? Please keep uploading parts. Kind regards from Spain :)

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Rear disc conversion requires the hubs buddy off a disc brake model, otherwise all perfectly swappable. The ST170 springs are new ones and sit very upright on my focus, it is different for them all. They sit around 1-1.5cm lower than the standard ones ish

    • @st170australia9
      @st170australia9 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ive have st170s with stock suspension and have fitted the bilstein b12 kit to a mk1 sedan. The bilstein is superior in every respect while not being too harsh. It will lower your ride height by about 30mm as well

    One of my wheel center caps fell off during a trip my father went with my Focus 2007 MK1.5 Duratec 2.0 and it was a pain to find the original from Ford. The after market ones are garbage, not worthy at all. I'll check if I can find a few more here in Brazil. I paid about 10 times what the aftermarket one cost, and it was a worth buy.

    their is at least 3 item on you vid i have brought in the last year with the bonnet sponges/seals being in the last month the new sponges was old stock as the tape was utterly useless so i replaced it the battery strap i got a year and a half ago but am yet to swop it. even go the battery cover also as a good price at same time the focus badge was around £40 a year or so ago so i did buy one last year at the tenna price even though i did replace it 2 years ago

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The tape is sometimes pretty marginal it needs some gorilla glue or epoxy to hold it down!
