Love my 991.1 base with manual. So much fun. I like the power amount too. More power wouldn't do me any good for the types of roads I drive (tight canyon & mountain). With the base, I can basically wind it out anywhere and only be slightly illegal. Perfect car for my needs: NA, manual, slightly nicer interior (4-8 hours each way to those fun roads), but not too big, disconnected or "on rails." Like you said, a combination reserved now for the ultra high end models.
I believe the GT3 did have the upshift and downshift in the correct orientation, as did the Turbo. It was just the regular models that continued with this until 992.
I absolutely love my 997 C2S but the 991 interior is peak Porsche. There was a gray 50th Anniversary with a ducktail at PCA Palooza in November and I had to stop and look at it every time I saw it
Having owned a 987 Boxster (5-speed manual), 991.1 C2S (7-speed manual) and 718 Spyder (6-speed manual), you're never past 4th gear on backroads. Yes, they all feel a little bit different, but if you like manuals, just get the manual.
I haven’t seen one of these in a while, love the seats. Ultimately it was peak modern 911 with the NA motor, as well as pricing. The induction sound pipes doing a lovely job, best part about it.
The wheels and houndstooth seats just make that car so special. The chrome trim seems strange on a modern Porsche, but I bet it looks much more proper in person.
The 911 is a formula that has been refined and tweaked for so long. I had thought that the 911 was at its apex then I saw this version. I usually don't like cars with all the lights and gizmos. I remember life before them, ya know. But this 911 integrates all of its parts so well that everything was meant to be here.
$150k new, $150k now after 11 years and XX,000 miles. Yeah Id say this is the 911 to have (not counting the GT cars...) Also fun fact, we got my uncle a Porsche Design 50th Anniversary 911 Watch as a 60th bday present, he had a 2012 991 Carrera S at the time. Apparently now that watch is worth over $3k ($800 when new).
Rented a base 991.2 for a week while on a vacation last year. My first 911. Had all the packages / options. Really fell in love with it. Admittedly a lot of the little details like chrome or dials don't resonate with me, but damn was it fun to drive. Was surprised at how heavy the steering was at low speed. Made parking lot maneuvering a pain in the ass. Probably the only negative I had.
Hey Ted, hope you had/have a good day! I have an F30 335i, but I am contemplating joining you on the Civic SI train! I spent over $4000 in maintenance last year and those Civics have never looked so good!
Great review! I have a 991.1 for all these reasons :). Also live outside Boston and one of the reasons I like your videos is that I know every square inch of your test route - i drive the same route on the weekends! At ~17:15 on old Lexington road in Lincoln you pass by a very special place. That farm is one of the oldest cultivated land plots in the country and has been owned by the same family (the Flints) since the late 1600s. Some days you can see the current generation of Flints working the land in an old John Deere! The structures you pass a little later are from that period. Think the house on left is the original homestead. I know it’s random but I love cars and history :) We met last year at cars and coffee at Larz. I’ll look for you this upcoming season. Keep it up man!
I've driven a 991.1 Carrera 4, and I agree with you on the whole "tight" feeling of these cars. They just feel so precise and feelsome - not numb in spite of the EPAS. I'd love to have a 991 as a third car for weekend mountain runs.
Super cool car. The shifting experience in this particular example is all wrong however with the awful buttons and backwards shifter orientation. It would drive me insane 😂
The Fuchs wheels name is pronounced "Fooks," not the way you pronounced it. Great video. BTW. I hate the plaid looking stitching in the seats. Yuk! BTW, if & when the PDK really breaks down, except for a very small number of issues, it can not be repaired because Porsche refuses to make parts available for shops including Porsche Dealer shops to fix them. Porsche's solution is to buy a replacement complete PDK transmission for $25k. I kid you not.
I’m wondering if the sport steering wheel with regular paddles was available as an option with this car? I’ve seen early 991.1’s optioned with it and obviously they were available on the 997.2 as well
I don't like a lot of the styling cues nor the thumb shifting on the steering wheel so I wouldn't be interested in buying the 50th Anniversary Edition. What I do like is how it drives and sounds. I'm also "glad?" about the road noise because to me that means they didn't overdo it with the sound deadening and that's one of the reasons it weighs 3120lbs with PDK. This is exactly the reasons that I have a 991.1 C2S, the way it drives, the weight, the sound, and the looks. One of the negatives though is everyone wants to race you - that gets old real quick.
On the topic of Americans being the reason you can get a manual, there is a reason that the Jetta is the only manual that volkswagen sells. Americans were the majority of manual sales for them, So gone is the GTI manual because it's made for every market and not just the US like the Jetta.🥲
these cars aged amazingly. if i knew almost nothing about cars, you could say this is brand new, and i would never suspect it is 11 years old
thats because a brand new 911 looks basically the exact same
It better,it's only 11 years old
Except for the steering wheel. Shit's ugly.
@somebloke2238 my stepdad actually owns a cayenne s with that wheel. it isnt actually that bad in person
A 911 video every month. 1 down, 11 to go.
I've been driving a LOT of Porsches lately. Today was a 911R
@@TedwardDrives Spoilers!

Have the same, love it!
wish we could go back to the days of N/A Porsches. Outside of a GT3 or GT4, they're pretty much dead and it's tragic
I believe the GT3 did have the upshift and downshift in the correct orientation, as did the Turbo. It was just the regular models that continued with this until 992.
I have a 991.1 C2S and I'm absolutely obsessed with it. Such amazing cars.

Tons of class, quality and sportiness: an evergreen.

I had one, much better in person.
That flat 6 absolutely screams
Man, that thing does run strong, and it sings a great tune. You do such a fantastic job of capturing the cabin sound properly, truly HiFi worthy.

430 hp out of NA 3.8L is impressive ngl
Now they do 520hp with NA 4.0L
Ngl that paddle system would drive me nuts. should be an easy change though.
I had the same steering wheel on my 991.1. Swapped it for the Sport Design wheel that had real paddles and it's a total night and day difference
It 100% sucks. I swapped to the 991.2 multifunction wheel with traditional paddles and it’s an incredible change.

I LOVE this car. All the retro touches just makes this car look amazing! Theres one based off the Turbo that is just chefs kiss.
Dear Tedward: Fuchs means fox in German, and is pronounced the same way, except with a short oo sound instead of short oh. Foocks, not fiewks.
Ok
Hey Ted, hope you had/have a good day! I have an F30 335i, but I am contemplating joining you on the Civic SI train! I spent over $4000 in maintenance last year and those Civics have never looked so good!
Very underrated aspect of 991s is they're actually lighter than 997s despite having a larger footprint.
Guys I think Tedward likes Porsches
Against the grain here, I really like the look of the steering wheel beyond the funky paddles
The 991 generation is with out a doubt my favorite 911 ever
991.1 got the induction sound so good in this generation.
Love the Porsche videos, keep em coming ❤😁

Aging like fine wine 💪
Love from Vancouver, Canada 🇨🇦 ❤️
I have a base 991.1 Carrera, no sports exhaust or even damper option. I love it though, it was what I could afford.
I love your Porsche reviews. Keep them coming!
Lots more coming
Came for the car. Loving Waltham.

Fortunately the one I drove was a 2016, so it had paddles. 😂
Yep, you’re correct. This is the spec. 🤤
2WD, widebody, x51 pack, to me it's peak 911 carrera especially in the dark grey with the chrome accent.
I love the 50th Anniversary. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I had the money...in fact it's on the list of cars I want to buy in the future!
911 is always 911 magnificent machine
I love manuals-they are much more fun to drive.
pdk is the best in the business
2:28 oooooh, I felt that! 🤤🫠
Beautiful car and the sounds are just amazing. Would be amazing to see one in manual as well
The NA Flat 6 of a 911 is one of "God's own" car sounds next to my love of burbling Detroit V8s.
perfection! what a car!
A 6speed manual would make it perfect.
Super cool car. The shifting experience in this particular example is all wrong however with the awful buttons and backwards shifter orientation. It would drive me insane 😂
it takes a little rewiring of the brain to get it right. when I pulled up to the first speed bump I shifted to 3rd instead of 1st lol
@TedwardDrives Haha I noticed that. I was like, "see it's even messing up Tedward." 😂
Would you drive any Volvos? I wanna see you drive a Volvo 240 and make it into a video
that's a good car
The Fuchs wheels name is pronounced "Fooks," not the way you pronounced it.

Plaid?
Good looking car

I believe it was available
yes it was available
It's criminal that the sport steering wheel didn't come standard with the anniversary package.
As someone who's had both steering wheels, I greatly prefer the Sport Design wheel with the actual paddles.
Yes it was, and it was an easy swap. If I'm selling this car, I'd spend the 2k and put a proper sport steering wheel with paddles on it.
My favorite 911 is this one. But my god, I cannot put into words how much i hate that steering wheel
Macan saw fellow Porsche bro and let you pass.
Wow❤❤
My fckn dream car, sob i need a job Tedward...

Ted! I’m in the market for a P-car, what’s your take: 997.2 or 991.1?
Ted, what's your favourite car of all time
Caterham 7
@TedwardDrives nice one😄
even in the winter?
Nice
Bond Group just accepted my offer for $29,995
as a down payment….
😂
Redline?
Looks to be 7,800 RPM.
That steering wheel is heinous. Would switch to the sport wheel immediately.
Stylingwise, only one thing is missing - gt sport steering wheel. Imo this wheel is the ugliest from all porsches ever
Beautiful car and sounds. Shame about the automatic :(
The auto killed me mehnnnn
the pdk is great imo
Y’all have never driven a PDK Porsche, it’s absolutely amazing! Don’t knock it until you drive it!
Y’all have never driven a PDK Porsche, it’s absolutely amazing! Don’t knock it until you drive it!
Lovely car except that steering wheel. Man that design has NOT aged well.
Easy swap! My friend will (PTSRS) bought a cayman with this wheel and swapped it
