@@TedwardDrives It may be because I have never actually driven a car with fake audio so my brain instantly recognizes that fake, video game, simulated sound. Ignoring the tone and sound profile of the noise, it lacks the variability and that slight randomness that you get from an engine. Maybe that's just my experience since I have really only driven 15+ year old EU diesels, which sound completely different in various conditions from cold to warm. It's not like when you press the throttle, the engine just gets louder with a deeper sound, it's the mix of the injector noise to exhaust and turbo and whatever else, all of which just gets lost in this fake sound. Perhaps putting a mic in the engine bay and playing that audio (processed of course), would be a different story?

An extra lane and time and space. As everyone saw, MKBHD didn't have any of those options.
One of my dream cars! I would get the 63s one. I went to visit my grandma over the weekend in the Hamptons and saw an ultra rare edition of the one you drove. A Brabus one. Sounded absolutely amazing!!
This is a generally attractive car but I really think that peak modern Mercedes was 2015-2020. W222 S class, W213 e-class, original GT, etc. They all balanced very attractive interiors with smartly integrated tech and drivetrains that were not unnecessarily complicated (looking at you new c63).

I have a fully optioned W205 on the 19-inch AMG night wheels and love it, but I can’t really get with any of the current lineup aside from the GT63 (which to me is too pricy to be worth it vs. other cars). W222 will likely be the last great S-class design, so I’ve considered grabbing a late model year example as an upgrade to my W205, but eh.
It’s a nice looking car all around, the only cons I have personally are the pumped in fake engine sounds and the giant touch screen in the middle #bringbackbuttons
@@Erik-ce3hqno it isn’t. It’s the actual exhaust sound picked up by a mic and channeled in. Most supercars do this now. They don’t build a synthesizer connected to the engine to make sound up. It’s just an assist to add drama in a very noise insulated cabin. The alternative is to have lots of road noise in comfort. That doesn’t work in a GT.
@DutchDukeMan like every other performance car. They all do this. It’s the trade off for a quiet cabin. The only one that does it physically using tubes is McLaren. Some even have a mic from the engine compartment linked to a sub woofer to make the cabin vibrate. Fake is a synthesized engine sound. Some cars even do this. But if you are a purist and this is a deal breaker for you can only go for a mid level sports car in the 100k range. Above that these tricks become common. Some run of the mill average cars even do it, BMW and VW for a start.
Never thought I’d see one of these car review drives through my hometown (Eatontown). Pretty cool to see since I haven’t been there in over 7 years. Edit: if you’re in the area for other drives, I would recommend doing Ocean Ave near Pier Village in Long Branch or Route 537 through Colts Neck.

I drove a Mach E the other day for the first time and the fake noise in that actually made my Bronco's fake noise more noticeable because now I can tell its exactly the same as they do in an EV. I wish the trend would die because the 2.7 makes plenty of turbo sounds to be interesting on its own. Imagine if this car made the sounds the M156 made naturally like in the w204 C63 I had for a while. Also, fake on screen hvac controls that literally just mimic real buttons is the worst solution I have seen to the problem oem's created by deciding soft buttons are somehow better.

I totally agree about making lighter sports cars with less technology. That's exactly why I recently bought a 991.1 911 instead of a newer one because of the NA engine, the weight (3120lbs, which I still wish was lower), and minimal tech. At least vehicles like that still exist if you're prepared to either spend an absurd amount of money or buy an older car like I did. I really thought hard about a Lotus Emira but there is nowhere to get that serviced where I live (in a rural area) and I didn't want that type of hassle in my life. As of right now I don't see myself buying a sports car newer than mid-2000s as a result of the increase in weight and the obsession with added technology.

Crazy how bad some cars are on the american roads. Here we have annual mandatory checkups. If you get a 1st degree mark on something, you must be fixed until next checkup, if you get a 2nd degree mark you are only allowed to drive to the mechanic to fix it and 3rd degree, you are not even allowed to sit in the car, it getting towed to the mechanic. The cars being market in the car registrary, so if a cop car passes by and their cameras catches the licence plate and you have a 2 or a 3 you're toast.
The problem is that Mercedes is a big brand that needs to follow certain EU rules. Smaller manufacturers dont need to stick to those, that is why Pagani or Gordon Murray can still produce 12 cylinders
I think you're missing the point. Big brands are chasing numbers and trying to beat their competition by saying they have a faster 0-60 or Nurburgring lap time and it's useless if the car feels synthetic. When you spend millions of dollars on an absurd car like a Pagani or Gordon Murray its job is simply to delight the driver. These big brands dont need a 12,000 RPM V12. But they do need to introduce tactility back into the vehicles.

I think I really need to go drive one of these to see if the fake engine sound is as terrible as it sounds in these videos. To my ears, it's basically on par with the car just being broken, and the sound isn't suppose to be there. I truly don't know how a dealer would convince someone to buy one of these after a test drive if that's the experience they have. It is so awful.

It’s all going to be voice commands and gestures (a feature available in this car that reads hand movements without even touching the screen). It’s something for us old people to complain about. @@reverbandchill maybe. It’s difficult because in this car the features need a big screen, and making it workable really limits where you can put it. If it were more integrated into the dash you’d be stretching to reach it from the driving position. Personally I prefer the long screens you see in the GLs but they don’t have as heavy a lift as the screen in this.

991 is a phenomenal car. Sort of underrated in the modern Porsche scene. I think the 991 and 981 models will be much more appreciated with time.

It’s not synthetic noise. It’s the engine, well exhaust, fed from a mic. All supercars do this in one form or another.

That is the cheesiest luxury looking dash/ interior. Would rather sit in a Mercedes from 20 years ago.
I just can’t wait for the massive screen design language to be phased out. Surely we’ll get back to real luxury eventually..

The screens may get smaller, there will be no going back to analogue. It’s all going to be voice commands and gestures (a feature available in this car that reads hand movements without even touching the screen).
It’s something for us old people to complain about. I remember when cars didn’t park themselves and you could kerb the wheels etc
@ we will see :) I don’t think screens will ever go away fully, there’s no way. I just think they’ll become much less centric in the design language is all.
@@reverbandchill maybe. It’s difficult because in this car the features need a big screen, and making it workable really limits where you can put it. If it were more integrated into the dash you’d be stretching to reach it from the driving position. Personally I prefer the long screens you see in the GLs but they don’t have as heavy a lift as the screen in this.

That's the worst fake engine noise I've ever heard. I'd drive into a tree to make it stop. I hope there's an option to turn that off.

I’m not going to buy a car with fake vents or fake sounds. Do they try to appeal to children ?
The selection is getting slim. Almost everything has fake vents and sounds now
@ it is, but it’s fine. Used cars from eras with sane designers are cheaper and better !
Boring car, interior and sound, I rather take the 2025 911 T anyday.
