Hi Jason. I can't tell you how many youtube videos I have watched regarding left hand patterns which i believed is the foundation to playing lead sheets. I have been playing blocks for many months now and really enjoyed it since I am a beginner adult learner. But now, I want to go beyond with broken choirs and Arpeggiates and your videos really makes senses. for example you talked about how the left hand is constant and need not be related to the right hand. You said to go with feeling rather than hitting at a certain time. I have been struggling to understand the broken choir independence and been trying so many ways to implement that to my playing. You are doing a great job in bridging me to the next level. In going forward, can you do more of these videos, and perhaps applying to some leads sheets with various left hands. Truly appreciated.

You just made me realize why I suck on the piano 🎹😞 I am totally using the chords functions wrong that's why when I create a Melody line it doesn't harmonically sound correct a lot of clashing and muddy. I've always thought that the dominant chord of a key was built from the fifth degree of the scale, in g major this would be D, F# & A. You are playing D, F# & C as the dominant, I'm a little confused on this, any help would be much appreciated. Great lesson btw

Please clarify- while playing modern left hand 1-5-8 pattern, how I follow the rules of parallel fifth and parallel octave in similar/contrary motion as well as unison to octave and octave to unison for consecutive chords which are forbidden in Western classical music.

Hi Zac, I am student of keyboard. How does a keyboard different from a piano. Earlier piano was a huge instrument to carry. Now that piano has become a bit handy. Even when u play a piano it sounds a little different from the keyboard.
This is the most helpful video I've found, you do such a good job at explaining and showing this and even after such a huge help I still can not do it. I play really nice and easily with my right hand, I play fine with my left thumb and index finger but I don't have good control over the other 3. Anyway I somehow can make it but it's impossible for me to play indepedent melodies with my hands silmutaneously. I ruin both, I ruin completely their rythms. My brain can not understand anything that moment. I've been practicing one hour per day for almost a week and I can not hit even that first one note correctly 😢. I'm not talented at all, I'll keep practicing for one more week and if I still won't be able to hit one or 2 notes I will give up.It feels embarassing not being able to hit at least one damn note

Jason....In minute 5,34. do not understand .. the dominant or V chord in the key of Gmajor,. is D, F#, A?.. why do you say is 7, 4, 5? A chord can not have two notes together, that would be a sus 2 or sus 4... I do not understand what are you talking about.. ...You should say D, F#, A or in numbers. ,5. 7, 2 (or 9),...but never 7,4,5 as you say.. to my understanding
The reason I call it a dominant chord is because it's a V7 going to the Tonic. 745 is just a jumbled way of playing the 5 chord with better voice leading perhaps

Jason....In minute 5,34. do not understand .. the dominant or V chord in the key of Gmajor,. is D, F#, A?.. why do you say is 7, 4, 5? A chord can not have two notes together, that would be a sus 2 or sus 4... I do not understand what are you talking about.. ...You should say D, F#, A or in numbers. ,5. 7, 2 (or 9),...but never 7,4,5 as you say.. to my understanding
The subdominant is ok. I agree.. 4, 6, 1 or the second inversion 1, 4, 6..
The reason I call it a dominant chord is because it's a V7 going to the Tonic. 745 is just a jumbled way of playing the 5 chord with better voice leading perhaps
