@@randomtech787 Interesting, I had a totally different experience, my Mi Band was way more responsive than my Fitbit Charge 3. Maybe they did some software updates in between! I've been using the Mi Band for 6 months now and I am really satisfied, except for the running features, I am sure the Fitbit will perform better there now with the GPS, but I do not run so often so it is fine.

Random Tech except for the biggest of all, built into GPS. If you just don’t have any need for built in GPS and I think anyone would say probably not worth the upgrade but there are some inherent issues doing piggyback GPS vs using built in GPS. Just really consumer choice about how important gps accuracy is to that person.

    • @Joelbrace2
      @Joelbrace2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@brandonbrotzman9701 Fitbit knew that they didn't have enough features for the new charge 4 so have decided to holdback software features from the charge 3 which is disgusting. Like you say, really it's only the GPS and NFC..

You nailed it. Thank you. I'm elderly, mostly sedentary; I need the motivation to move. Not doing a lot of outdoor at this time. The price will be a factor. If Charge three is substantially less expensive, I'll go with it. I don't mind carrying my phone while I walk or garden outside. Again thank you for your excellent review. Dynamo you are. My peeve about the Charge 4: When you meet your daily step goal, you get a notification, and it has one of about 4 little graphic screens. One of the graphics for this on the old Charge 2 was a cool rocket ship. I liked that very much. I hate that Fitbit did not include a rocket graphic in the Charge 4. You get a shoe, a disco ball, an airplane, but no rocket ship. Disappointing.

PLEASE PLEASE check the altimeter during the long term review as the one on the Charge 3 was horrible. It would give me 20 flights of stairs while walking down the street in FL. I had to return it for that very reason. Otherwise, great first impressions video!

That's because it counts total elevation change as steps, you guys. Say there is an elevation change from your front door to your mailbox of one foot - you probably wouldn't even notice the elevation change, but walking to your mail box and back would count as 2 feet of elevation change to your Fitbit.

    • @lordprotector3367

Thanks for the review. I just literally purchased the Charge 3 a few minutes ago before seeing your review for the Charge 4. So, I considered cancelling the order thinking that there would be enough important differences to get the Charge 4.
Then I thought to myself...will there ever be a situation where I don't have my phone on me whether in my pocket, gym bag, back pack, or arm band and the answer is a definite NO.
The only time I find myself without my phone is if I forget it and in that case...I'll most likely go back home to get it.
    And as for FitBit pay.
    Well...same thing applies.
I have the Samsung Note 10 plus with two forms of payment, Samsung Pay and Google Pay.
So for those who can live without their phones...I guess this is who the Fitbit Charge 4 is for.

Couple of questions: 1) can you turn-off the GPS and/or put it in battery saving mode where does the minimal functions for longer battery life? 2) can you pair to a Bluetooth heart rate strap? ANT/ANT+ heart rate strap? ... I've been using a Charge 2 for nearly two years now and my main reason is to track sleep and resting heart rate. When I do an activity (cycling/running) I put on a heart rate strap and have other devices (Garmin, cough) that track it so that's not what I need the Charge to do.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. GPS is only utilized during an outdoor activity. That said, you could just use a generic workout profile while doing an outdoor activity to save on battery life. 2. No external sensor pairing. Doubt that will change.

As a number of other people here have noted, it's frustrating how Fitbit almost never adds new features to their devices through software updates. They make it so you have to buy the newest version to get anything. The Smart Wake feature is a great example - there's no reason why they couldn't add it to the Charge 3. And I will say I like my Charge 3, but if it wasn't for the challenges and most people using Fitbits I would have no problem jumping ship.

bought the charge 3 last January, noticed the screen was getting darker a month ago, and now its impossible to read, tried all the suggestions at fitbit, and no change, so waiting now for the charge 4 to arrive, thanks for the video, helps me feel better about being forced to upgrade. Just hoping I get more then a year and 2 months out of it.. $12 a month for the charge 3, isn't really a good buy in my opinion.

That's too bad, did you reach out to customer service?
I've had a charge 2 for 2 years and have had no issues, but I'm a little nervous to stick with the brand because I have heard a lot of quality control issues..

Looking forward to your full review. I'm in the process of deciding which smartwatch (my first) to get and this Charge 4 just right fits into my budget of €150.
As a cyclist, things I would really like to know/see:
    * battery life with GPS on the Fitbit compared to GPS on the phone, as I always have my phone with me
    * navigation on the device itself? Perhaps linked
    * (user interface for) heart rate measurements
Other than that, I do some supportive weight exercises/calisthenics and try to fix my sleeping, so those are interesting topics as well.
Its biggest competitor for me is the Mi Band 4 which costs 1/5th of the Charge 4... or the upcoming Mi Band 5 which costs 1/3rd... and as far as I know can also provide navigation with a linked smartphone and compatible app.
Edit: aaaahhh and I just found out about the Amazfit Stratos to make it even more difficult hahaha

No navigation on the device, but I'll make sure to cover all the rest in the final review! Thanks!

i myself have for 7 months the mi band 4 and im extremely happy.
it does everything i want :
running : via app and phone GPS you get very accurate results (I've compared it to other apps and it was consistently accurate)
you have sleep tracking and messaging alerts but i don't use it at all(really only for running ) which points me to the last benefit : battery life (i charge it once in a month ) crazy ah?

I agree. Versa had storage, but no gps so I don't know what fitbit was thinking. I still like this though, but afraid to buy it due to 2 fitbit products that died on me within a year.

Thanks for the Charge 4 review. I have had Charge 3 for couple years and love it - except - a few month's ago I noticed I can no longer see the display in normal to bright daylight. It has to be indoors or if outside - late evening or VERY overcast and I'm just stuck with it being that way. I hope the Charge 4 doesn't go dim in only two years.

Defit I would like to thank you for being one of the only completely thorough reviewers I have found on many devices. Through many different watches you presented data cleanly and reviews didn't seem biased. I am almost completely set on getting the Charge 4. Wish Fitbit tracked with more detail like Garmin, but honestly not impressed with how Garmin is pricier overall and relies on MFP for calorie tracking among others.
That said I wouldn't mind more incite on this watch and whether the firmware updates improved the watches performance. How is the watch performing now?, or when do you think the indepth review is coming out?

Yup, Withings is doing this for about 5 years now. Works pretty nicely for me. With Withings, You even can choose your wakup window in which it will vary. Since I like seeing the time 24/7, this is not a tempting offer.
