We’re all forgetting that Sherry Pollex died around the start of the playoffs. That has to be a factor in MTJ’s collapse. They were together for almost 20 years and even though they broke up he probably still loved her.
That’s the factor I think to the demise. I’m not sure what occurred between them to break up last year but his decline seems to correlate with the passing of Sherry and I think overlooking that as a factor would be a mistake.
If Blaney wins the championship we truly do live in a world of "And then the opposite happens". So many people picking Truex to win the championship after winning the regular season only to then flounder it away, and so many people marking Blaney to get knocked out in the first round due to it having many of his weaker tracks and his relatively mediocre summer stretch, only to go on a tear and possibly win a championship. Edit: He did it
Great thumbnail, I mean seriously just phenomenal thumbnail idk if you’re an evangelion fan but great thumbnail, perfectly encapsulates how MTJ fans felt these playoffs
THANK YOU! The whole of NASCAR media seems to trust James Small, and I felt like I was the only one who just didn't see it. He had one call that got Truex a victory early, but besides that, if the team was doing well, you could all but guarantee Small was about to screw it up. I also don't see how fighting over the radio can be beneficial, and the fact that Truex has always had a hot head does not make that better.
The 34 deserves a deep dive for Round 16, because holy fuck If you were to look at the qualifying efforts for that round, you'd find that Michael McDowell, in Front Row Motorsports equipment, tied for *3RD* best in qualifying with Tyler Reddick and was only outdone by Hamlin and Bell. You look at the results, you would think the 34 just crashed out before finally getting a great run at Bristol...only to find that the car which qualified 9th and 8th would be struggling to remain in the Top 30 after about 50 laps. It was as though they showed up with a Drag Race setup, hellbent on only qualifying speed, but having nothing for racing with nearly 40 other drivers and the dirty air/traffic I know some cars collapse once the race begins, but that's usually due to pit crews, pit calls, or the track changing. This car was not dealing with any of these factors, it just became a parachute at the green flag and fell to where they were running QUADROUPLE their qualifying position. Just pure ineptitude at that organization, cause if they bring a 20th place car to Kansas and Darlington, that 34 makes the Round of 12. Those three weeks are perhaps the biggest heartbreak for me as a fan, because seeing those qualifying efforts yield godawful results only to see them FINALLY get it right at Bristol, shit is rough...
all in for Blaney this year. You pair his recent momentum with previous results at phoenix in the falls of last year and i believe you’ve got a 2023 champion without a doubt.
I became a fan of Byron because he got his first win at the first race I attended, the 2020 coke 400. I'm so happy to see him get this far, I knew he was going to have a breakout season but he exceeded all my highest hopes
As a KFB fan, it is genuinely eerie how similar MTJ's current situation at JGR is to that of the 18 team of 2008-2014. Before Adam Stevens came along, the "Kyle Busch Recipe" went something like this: 2 or more victories in the regular season (often 4 victories) 1 high seed in the postseason (regular season title is optional) 1 postseason full of futility and/or agony (this can be achieved in multiple ways but the most iconic is via engine failure) 1 Crew Chief whose personality often conflicts with that of the driver (looking at you Dave Rogers) but not enough for relations to have a complete meltdown, leading to year after year of high-performance mediocrity Throughout the season, it often felt like the 54 was the recent upstart team and the 19 was the real team that inherited the 18 after Kyle left despite it being precisely the other way around.
I really, really like your content, and it has opened me up to a whole motorsport I otherwise wouldn't pay much attention to, but as someone who actually rarely catches a race or even highlights due to being international, at least putting the drivers name up with their number would be really helpful!
As a Denny fan this year, it really felt like this was his year. Seeing his speed in the Ro16 and how he advanced early in the Ro12, the Mechanical DNF kicking him out of the playoffs felt like a gut punch. Especially given that next year there will be 2 RC and 2 Plate tracks in the playoffs, which could mean more unfair eliminations
Byron has honestly had the least impressive 6-win season in memory. They've been consistent top 10 and top 5 level, but aside from his domination at Watkin's Glen, pretty much every one of those victories happened when they got lucky and the front runners made a mistake that the 24 team could capitalize on. They were particularly lucky this year, as that "6" in the win column indicates.
Hopefully Larson wins, but with Blaney's worst finish at Phoenix being 4th it's tough to say who's gonna be the 2023 champion. Edit: Completely forgot about William Byron and his 6 comically large hats throughout the season, he has an even better chance. Can't wait. Edit 2: Well you actually got one prediction right, an out of nowhere mistake cost Larson the championship...
I'm a bias Bell fan, but I think he has a real shot. Other than Larson's championship, Bell has the highest points finish of the others, 2nd last year. He may not have put together the same kind of season as last year, but he is still showing that he's quiet talent and has the best shot at coming away with a clean race
The only cars allowed on the track for the Championship should be the original qualifiers. This would eliminate team racing to a greater extent. I recall only one move over flag the entire season.
Goddamn holy fuck I hate people that say bubba is a playoff threat I’m not a hms fan but having two hms cars injured for many races and causing them to not make playoffs. If bowman and Elliott were not injured bubba and harvick would be not in playoffs
I got Byron taking the cup he’s been my pick ever since the playoffs started Although Larson could also taking it knowing he has the experience same with bell but I would argue Larson is the favorite coming into this championship
I think the only think holding Bell back is his god awful pit crew. They’ve don’t him no favors this season and probably knocked him out of the championship last year. I think no one has any qualms about Blaney Winning the championship and I am all here for it But I think Byron puts on another show of dominance and wins the championship
Well since the round of 16 I've thought Byron will win... Not saying it won't happen but for some reason I want to lean towards C Bell, but we will see.
Take note: don’t announce silly season plans AFTER you win a race. Martin confirmed he was coming back after winning New Hampshire and the entire season fell to shit.
my heart is leaning to the 24. Byron's momentum has slowed considerably, but the dude can still drive phenomenally. 24 car captures the championship for the first time in over 20 years.
blaney will have the penske hax at phx. it's his to lose. larson was two chastainings (dover and darlington 1) and two hamlins (kansas and pocono) away from an 8 win season. two late race yellows (vegas, phx) from a 10 win season. whipped em all at the all star race and it wasn't close. the biggest error he made this year was at homestead when it didn't matter, and every Q lap at road courses. if cliff gets him close with under 10 to go, watch out.
As an irregular nascar viewer, i'd really appreciate if you could not just give the car numbers but also name the drivers. I'm for sure not the only person that doesn't know most drivers numbers and felt quite lost in the early part of the video. Also, great choice of music as always.
I'm picking Christopher Bell I think it's his time to win the championship and stake his claim as one of the best drivers in the Cup series right now because I personally think he is what is amazing generational talent he has.
I love how blunt you are. Got damn I wish everybody else was so honest. All we get our political views and bullshit. Great content keep it coming. 💯👍🏻🏁🇺🇸
My head says Byron wins it, but my gut says Blaney gets it. Something about this year just feels different for him, and I think he's got what he needs this year to pull off the upset
Actually i quit watching and unsubscribed from all NASCAR channels but i guess i missed this one. I was gonna try to finish up Harvicks career since hes been my guy since 2001, but i just can't do it anymore. I'm completely sick of hearing about playoffs.
Go back to the points system for the whole season. This two part series is crap, contrived drama created by NASCAR to try and entice new fans. It doesn’t truly represent the 36 long points race that should crown a true champion. The current system was created to try and increase viewers with fake drama like a tv reality show. The stage system was contrived to fix boring racing created by the constantly changing car. The drivers were made to super star status as a smoke and mirrors effort to replace the lack of brand identification that came with the car change. Nascar is so messed up.

Me too. Harvick for the win and Larson for the championship.

Larson or Byron can save the format by winning. If Blaney/Bell win, more fuel to the "this format is ass" debate....which I agree it is.
blaney will have the penske hax at phx. it's his to lose.
