    Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

may be (understatement) to suggest as a 73 year old that Clarissa is the image of a female role model - which suggests no less for Iwan in a complimentary role. In whatever future I have, hopefully I will find a more flattering and popular way to describe this remarkable relationship. Thank you Iwan and Carissa for sharing your life in such a meaningful and relatable way. As we all know (for those who have attained it) the first lesson of maturity is recognizing that the young will reject the wisdom of their elders. Iwan and Carissa should expect no less but they are furthering a trajectory begun by many hugely motivated individuals and their hugely beneficial experiences, and their (I&C) sharing in social media may be an inestimable benefit for a lifestyle that has unlimited potential (however modest its inception) benefit for the future of the human race?

night watering may curtail evaporation but it can encourage rot and fungal growth as well as insects (according to Google)
Also, morning watering allows the plant to dry out in the day time which can be helpful in avoiding the above.

Do you all eat meat? I’ve gone to just fish/vegs and I feel so much better. Been watching you all for a long time. Your patience and know how have turned your soil for gardens into something great. Keep planting asparagus every year so you don’t go without. Cold cooked beets make a good sandwich with sharp cheese added. Take care.❤

Oh so much garden love from us. I always love the volunteer plants from last year's missed harvests, or the self seeded plants. When the lettuce go bitter, they'll start to flower. Those seeds may be worth collecting and putting between the plugs next year and see if they do alright because they've had an opportunity to become acclimatised?
I love the comfrey as a border plant because it grows by rhizome and is good for stopping weeds from getting into the garden. Corn is looking fabulous. i hope you report on thechickpeas, they're something on my wish list.
Totally envious of your walking onions.
The huge variety of salvias would go well in your climate, too, and great insect and bird attractors.
Lovely rainbow meal Carissa. Love that Diogo is also included on new logo 🐕
I'm not a petunia fan, but i could be for the beautiful starry night ones ❤
Parsnip is a cool season crop here in Western Australia(a similar climate to yours)
Thank you for the surprise midweek update ❤

Greatings from the north of Portugal! Love your calm videos 😊 in Portugal the Nasturtium (Tropaeolum) is called "Capuchinha" because of the hooded appearance of the flower. It's also called "Chaga". If you're more interessed in the leaves, put the plant in a more shaded area. The leaves can grow immensely! Keep up with the amazing work of making the interior of Portugal beautiful 🤗

Comfrey spreads really easily and grows vigorously. Cut it back as often as you can and use the leaves in your garden to nourish your soil or to make a lovely tea for your plants. Whatever you do try not to let the comfrey seed as you will get it coming up everywhere.

Hallo from South Africa! Thank you for the lovely garden tour. Your garden is looking great.
Do you have a compost pile or compost bins yet? I noticed you do have mulch but you can go alot thicker. Mulch will help retain the water and keep the soil cool during the summer and also keep the soil warm during the winter. You could make some diy trellises for all your climbing plants like your beans and peas and that would also offer some much needed shade for the rest of the garden beds. Just some tips that I've learned over the years. ❤

How lovely your garden looks! What a wonderful surprise to have a midweek tour! Getting plants from friends is a wonderful way to expand your garden. I love pansies too. They seed well here. We start with two and in a few years we have dozens. Have you ever stuffed the zucchini blossoms with cheese or mince and eaten those? Parsnips, when they're ready, look pretty much like white carrots: same shape and size. Yummy!

So nice to watch your vlog. Your tomato plants will not do well next to the potatoes. Transplanting them in a sunny spot is highly recommend. For best results clip the first set of leaves and burry plant deep and cover plant deep above those. The deeper the plant the more root structure will have and healthy fruit.

Clarissa.....if you want your corn to really grow...give it some fish manure....We used to dig a trench, put fish heads and tails and the internal organs into the ground, cover them over....and stand back..!! The plants love it. Even seaweed......
Compost is always great for the garden as it is natural, and you can't get good crops unless you provide the soil with nutrients. So if you are able to ever get the scraps from a Fish shop, then don't hesitate to dig them into your garden. Cheers.
