I've had a friend for 40 years now bc we were 12, standing in the lunch line at school, and I overheard her say she wanted to be a beautician and cut hair. Someone made a crack about how she'd have a seizure and f it up. I turned around and told that person if I EVER heard them mention her seizure again I would end them. Once a year she, I, and two others I've been friends with just as long take a 4 day, 3 night "girls trip." This year, it's Niagara Falls. Last year was the Finger Lakes, in NY. We grew up together, we're growing old together, and it's a glorious blessing.
When I was in high school, I had a friend who was a bit odd. Later we found out he suffered extreme abuse at home. But anyway, he'd shaved his head bald, like quite a few of me and my friends. (I'm not sure why, I think he just wanted to fit in somewhere. I never really talked to him that much, but we had several classes together.) Now, this guy weighs about 300 pounds, always has as long as I've known him. And he'd wear overalls. A lot. So picture this chubby little bald headed introvert who wore overalls all the time, and was always very timid and afraid to stand up for himself or even defend himself. One day in the locker room, a bunch of the football players were walking by taking turns slapping this guy in the head as hard as they could, until he began to cry. Seeing his tears set something off in me that I can't explain. I stood up and yelled "HEY MOTHER FKR!" All the jocks went silent, and all turned and stared at me. So I started slapping my OWN bald head. Hard. Yelling "You want to slap somebody, come slap me! Please!!! Please slap me!!! Please!!!! I'm begging. Do it and see what happens!" Not only did they back off, they didn't pick on him anymore. We were around 15 or 16 at the time. We're both almost 50 now, and he's still one of the best people I've ever known, and one of the best friends I've ever had. Yep, that's how we Gen X fkrs made friends. 😂
@@bobbys.3778 we had a guy in our class who was like 2-3 years older bc he had heart problems and missed so much school from surgeries, he topped out at about 5"3",maybe 125 pounds. Football players used to torment him mercilessly. His locker was next to mine, and one day we were in the hallway at our locker when one stated in on him. We called him and his brother The Neanderthal Twins for a reason, and my dumb ass decided I was jumping in. We were on the floor in the hall, rolling around, he's trying to dodge junk punches and hair pulling bc I DEFINITELY was fighting like a girl. The Spanish teacher was the only one willing to wade in and break it up, and she wasn't much bigger than I was. Last time ANYONE tormented him. He died young, early 30's, and I went to his memorial service.
I’m 8 years old (1985) and my brother asked me to see if his friend can come out and play. I rang the doorbell and his brother opened the door. He asked me if I wanted to play dinosaurs. We’ve been best friends since!
I have a friend, we were in elementary school. One day, we have tape down the middle of our desk because we can't stand each other, a few weeks later, we're best friends and she's living with me for a few months because her home life sucked. She calls my mom, mom.

I’m 55 now and still best friends with a kid I met in 2nd grade. Till this day I could call him if he could call me in the middle of the night and say bring a shovel the only question that would be asked is round or flat shovel….
In 1970 I met my best friend. The next door neighbor's daughter was babysitting her and lifted her over the fence into my yard and we sized each other up. I asked her how old she was and she said 4. I met my friend on a school patrol field trip to Washington DC in 6th grade. We became inseparable. It was maybe 1981. The chaperones turned us all loose at the Smithsonian and gave us a time to be back at the bus. She and I got caught in a rainstorm running from one building to another and then spent the rest of our time in the bathroom drying each others clothes under the hand dryer. That was the beginning of our friendship. We still talk almost every day!
My friend and I are both genX. We were sitting next to each other in a freshman level business class in college, both half-listening to the prof. She was playing solitaire with this tiny deck of cards, and I whispered "hey, do you play poker?" 😂 She said yes, we played all semester, and we've been besties for over 20 years.
It’s like 2001 and the Twin Towers hadn’t got hit yet so it must be summer. Sound Factory is the afterhours club in NYC and I’ve a couple “issues” with the security. I roll up with 4-5 hot chics and they get let right in but one bouncer holds me up and says nah. The girls talk one of the promoters and this dude comes out and finds me sitting on the steps of the building. We talk and he’s like how are you outside and all the chics you came with inside? He basically tells the bouncer this guy gets in permanently for free he’s with me from now on. We went everywhere together and I met my whole crew from that one incident. We were tight for a good 10 years until things went south for most of the crew. But what a spectacular 10 years that was. We killed it in the greatest city on earth, partying better than rockstars and having a life nobody could ever dream of. God Bless fellas.

A lot of my friends happened like this: 1- i kicked their asses. Or 2- they kicked mine. Then, respect was established for being a hard ass mother effer, and later it turned into, friendship.
I met one of my best friends when we were 15 because I had a crush on a guy who was her ex boyfriend... he wanted me to kick her ass... lol. It was a New Years Eve party 82/83 at his house... we starting talking and became best friends... we were friends until she died in March 😢 41 years later... ❤
In Junior High,I had a new boyfriend. Turned out a girl I didn’t know well liked him,and was angry about it. She decided to send her friend to beat me up. I asked the girl why she wasn’t doing it herself,and explained that since I had o problem with her, I wouldn’t fight her. I also said it was uncool of her to ask her to fight me or anyone on her behalf,as she would be the one to get hurt-even if she won the fight. She said I made sense,we became best friends,and she no longer spoke to the other girl. I broke up with the guy about two weeks later,and he never dated that girl.
I have two such friends. When I was 15 and working at a summer camp, there was another girl working in another group. I didn’t know her much, but had seen her around. One day there was a medical emergency with one of the kids in my group. I was staying with the kid so he would have a familiar face when the ambulance came. Meanwhile, an older girl, who worked as a lifeguard, started insisting that everyone step aside to give the kid some air. I wouldn’t move. She started chasing me and the girl from the other group was for some reason running with me. We hid in a porta potty. It was gross. We stayed in there until ambulance came and took the kid and the lifeguard returned to her post. When the coast was clear, we finally got out of the porta potty. We’ve been best friends ever since. That was 42 years ago. More recently, in 1990, I was standing in the front of an auditorium waiting my turn to ask the professor a question. Behind me someone was coughing. I turned around to say excuse me or something and laid into me about her asthma and how she’s not contagious, etc. We’re still best friends today. She is currently staying with me while she looks for a place of her own. Both of these ladies and I are going to a water park in a few days.
Absolutely. Met just over 30 yrs ago. i consider him my brother. We have the same mind set. Not good most times in regards to humans. We both served in the Navy, different times, but that Squid mentality. We can go months, even yrs, without verbal/text communication, but are there for each other. Sometimes, we JUST KNOW, when contact NEEDS to be made.
Buried most of my friends & acquaintences btw '84 & '99. Lost count of funerals around #43. Kicked a few off my fb feed in '16 after they drank the red kool-aid. Buried my next to last bestie in '18 (lyme disease for once). Met my last surviving bestie in 99 at a rave- he was tripping balls, I was high as a kite. Shared my last cig on the 3rd floor steps & we talked about a mutual friend who was murdered back in '88 & about another currently in hospice whom we were gonna be losing soon. Bffs ever since.
Your story reminds me of my Dad when he was a teen, it was during the early 1940s. He put a kid who was 18 (my Dad was 14) over a fence and was called " Bronc" ever since. God rest his soul! I love your story.

I trip my best friend and she landed in the mud .... I put a cigarette hole in her new leather jacket and caught her on fire and we are still best friend to this day😊
In my neighborhood we had a flaming homosexual since third grade. We made it to junior high and the older kids wanted to beat him up. We told them that is our homosexual,if you beat him up you will have to fight the whole seventh grade at once!
A more recent fellow gen xer became my friend, from the moment he called me a F@ckF@c3" > for no reason at all. We were in the cab of a water truck ATM, and I knew he gave no sh!ts about anybody's opinion.
