I watched the whole trial. The details are even more horrendous than what is shown here. The "fireplace video" is haunting. He tried for hours to burn his parents' body parts, including their heads. It's the thing of nightmare.
And then some of us had parents who were alcoholics or drug addicts who didn't give a f*ck about us. Not only did we finish school, put ourselves through college because our parents would never spend their precious money on us, but we've gone on to be self-supporting ppl who would never hurt a fly, even our abusive parents. This kid had the foundation we always wish we had & look at what he does.
Parents sometimes need to step back and say these aren't boys any longer. These are men! Birds push their young out of the nest when they see they could fly. Parents need to do the same.
@@dannyhernandez2203 So, we should push our kids out as babies? I mean, birds are still babies when they first learn to fly. *sarcasm*. This whole thing is just awful. These lies he was telling are not normal lies, and the lengths he would go to, to keep these lies hidden. Its beyond anything that love & support could cause. He was just one of those types that cheat and lie to get whatever he wants, rather than just go do his best. I cant believe he claimed a job at space x and no one questioned everything at that point. This is one of the many reasons I don't trust my brother. He's a pathological liar and finds it very amusing when he is able to deceive people. Pathological liars are capable of anything in my opinion.
Same. Everything out of his mouth is a lie. He’s had several fake jobs, fake injuries, fake illnesses…all for some type of manipulation or monetary gain. When his lies reach their zenith he does extreme things. One time (after a sisters engagement ring went missing) he was arrested after a su!sidal standoff in a park with a knife. Another incident of money going missing from family he claimed to hit his head and had amnesia. The hospital could find nothing wrong with him (though he kept insisting on phantom symptoms) and they negotiated a one way bus ticket to get rid of him. These shenanigans have been going on all of his life. His latest claim is he was attacked by a stranger (bro is 6 ft tall, big guy) drugged, assaulted, and now has aids (which he says no longer will show up on a lab test) and needs $ for treatment. I won’t let him near me or my daughters. I do worry that one day when he’s backed into a corner about his lies it will turn deadly.
I made the same mistake when I was in college not telling my parents that I wasn't enrolled they discovered then were very upset beyond belief that their first born child would lie to them, they felt betrayed I felt like the most horrible child in the world but found the courage to admit my fault I apologized and faced the consequences 😭 they still supported me until I finally graduated from a different school. I Love my parents for saving me.
You're lucky to have parents who care. My mom and her sister tried to stop me from going to college because they were worried about losing government benefits. I went anyway. I had to because the lack of care in my earlier years caused me to get kicked out of highschool for not meeting requirements or something and forcing me to get a GED. I also had to find out how to get a GED on my own. Luckily, through some commercial i happened to see on day time TV while wasting my life away doing nothing! When the time came to take the GED test after the required classes i needed a ride because public transportation didn't go that direction. My mom complained THE whole time about having to drive me for that ONE day and having to be there and stressing me out while I'm trying to focus on my tests. I had to do multiple tests all day. If i had an adult in my life that cared about my academic career in grade school i wouldn't even have been in the whole GED situation. Instead, I was lost and drifting around on my own. Grade school seems like a complete waste of time looking back on it. I was completely ignored and left behind by every adult. I wish I had gotten my GED in middle school and been done with it because i learned absolutely nothing new in high school. And it's not like i could get a car because I'm not allowed to get a job or else we might become homeless she says. I'm still trapped. My only outlet is college. The only time i feel happy is at school or when I'm doing homework. I get the praise and admiration from my teachers and peers that i never received growing up.
I hope you understand that your parents saving you was a great act of love, compassion, grace and mercy towards you - not an obligation. They did not have to do that. I certainly hope when they reach their elderly years, you will return what they have shown towards you. Because you owe them for sure.

I never realized there was a brother in this story. Omg how sad. He’s up at the cabin searching for them and has no idea what his own brother did. So sick.
That coworker viewed that couple as family and you can tell that their death hurts him as much as someone who lost sibling. I pray for healing and peace to come to him.
I try to teach my son that it's never too late to do the right thing. Coming clean and being honest may feel scary, but it's the best way to solve problems. The Haldersons may have been shocked and furious with Chandler, but they could have all moved past it in the end. Chandler had no interest in honesty, and chose to take out the people who loved him the most rather than owning up to his mistakes.
I totally agree… And to be honest I think his parents kind of knew in their hearts but weren’t admitting it…because they mentioned that the counselor sounded like him, they were asking a lot of questions, and none of his lies really made sense. So yes, probably would’ve suffered through their short lived disappointment talks possibly, but it would have been a life lesson to learn from and move forward. But it seemed like he was so disillusioned with his own lies that he didn’t want his little made up life to end. How someone could harm anyone like that, let alone their own parents…Just so cold. And he seems absolutely fine in all those jail house correspondence they made public.
As a mother, I absolutely understand and agree with what you’re saying. But I’m sure the loved ones of murdered people probably do you think it’s too late and it seems people are more likely to come clean if it was like some kind of active passion, but this dude planned this. His whole life was one big stupid planned lie.
There was another case like this; older brother successful, younger faking successful college graduation. family goes out to dinner to celebrate, Dad gives younger a Rolex, son hires friends to ambush family on return. Younger's friends killed mother and brother, seriously injure father, son slightly injured. It seems like the lies were an essential part of him. In all of his px, his eyes look troubled. I'm not trying to blame the parents, but this kind of violence and attitude doesn't happen overnight.
You bring up a good point though (not to blame the victims, no excuse for what he did), but maybe from Chandler's view (show said he was sensitive) and his reaction to their tough love was more like a lifetime of ratcheting up pressures and expectations, then maybe he oversells his future plans of excellence, aiming high for his folks, and when he has a hiccup and flunks out and his little brother is doing better than him, and his parents can't stop praising the lie he carries on, and then they put up the ultimatum showdown for him and he comes armed. So maybe let the kids know you can be more open to failure, it builds more character than not failing. Let kids know they are young and have time. There is so much pressure to get it right on the first try and make every leap or hurdle.
@@1farahnaz BS excuse! Your counsel is suppose to dig and dig and come up with ANYTHING to get you off or a reduced sentence. She didn't even try. I would have appealed too!

There’s another popular case where the one son was giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to a foreign CAM girl and he refused to stop and ended up shooting both parents and one of his brothers. When the other brother comes to see him and hugs him, I couldn’t imagine what he was feeling, not only knowing his brother did it, but knowing full well, had he been home, his brother would have murdered him as well.

@ilovebrandnewcarpets - Ted Bundy. Now _there’s_ an outgoing, charming, personable psychopath! I could go on, but you get my drift. You forgot two HUGE psychological characteristics….you should have included “LONER,” and “SOCIALLY MALADJUSTED,” and Halderson was NOT a loner, never had been, and he had a lot of friends and a girlfriend who loved him so much that she stood by him until the trial. Your comment is way too generalized and misleading….just because a boy or young man is shy and sensitive does not make him a murderer or serial killer! The difference is a serious, hidden personality disorder that Halderson’s parents may not have ever seen or suspected; as a psychologist, I would say I suspect that he’s a covert narcissist, because they can be very violent when faced with widespread disclosure of deception or wrongdoing, usually towards the people closest to them. I’d truly advise you to give up trying to peg people!
weird that you zeroed in on "quiet and sensitive", when the trend I have noticed is it's always these middle to upper middle class, typically white, spoiled kids who have never had to do anything for themselves who are the ones faking going to school/having a great job then killing their whole families when that lie gets found out. also, I can't help but point out how funny it is that you clicked on a video about a true crime case, so you know exactly what you're getting into. Does defense counsel wish to cross examine the witness? We're good. Are you sure? Oh yeah. What that means is that it is more detrimental to try to cross examine the witness because it is only going to make the case stronger for the prosecution. @bochen0210 What a pathetic way to excuse the actions of this guy. His brother turned out fine. You forgot that parents’ upbringing isn’t everything to it. One’s temperament, ability to withstand stress, one’s moral compass, mental state are all quite independent of upbringing..
I think his dad knew he had been lying after he called his school and when he was meeting with him he just wanted Chandler to tell the truth or see how far he’d go with the lies before confronting him. However it took a way darker turn. It’s just awful. So sorry to the remaining family and condolences.
I watched the trial. That’s exactly what happened. He was supposed to go with Chandler up to the college to see about his nonexistent college credits. “I’m ready whenever you are” had a double meaning; I’m ready to go up to the college whenever you are and/or I’m ready for you to tell me the truth whenever you are. The fact that he went as far as he did rather than just telling his dad the damn truth will never make sense to me.
A video I watched on this , they said the cops believe after the dad called the school himself and was told he was not enrolled in classes, the dad then told chandler (chandler didn’t know yet that the dad knew) on a specific date they was gonna go up to the college and they believe the morning they were walking to the car chandler panicked and attacked his dad then waited on the mom to get home and than attacked her

When you put together all the clues; making up grandiose stories about himself, lying to everyone about practically everything, cheating on his girlfriend and gloating about it to his friends, and then shooting, dismembering, burning, and dumping his parents, and finally in court when the only time he speaks it's about himself; that boy is a psychopath. It is postulated that there is a gene that results in a person being a psychopath. Psychopathy is on a spectrum. Chandler appears to be towards the last quarter. Nurture plays a large part, however, he was given every opportunity. Plus, loving parents it would appear. When under pressure, he turned to a despicable option - one worthy of a psychopath.
My heart feels for these parents. I would expect this from a stranger. I couldn't imagine how deeply betrayed they must have felt after loving your child for all these years just to have them take your life.
Kat is a beautiful girl and gave him far too many chances. He was a loser in every aspect of his life and he knows it. His parents gave him everything and he destroyed them just so he could continue to amount to nothing.
Giving him everything and not demanding enough may be the problem. This type of crime seems to be more common with the wealthy than with the poor. Some people call it Affluenza.
He had the kind of involved parents I always wanted. My parents were never interested in my life plans, they didn’t even know what I majored in college

As long as the principal wasn't calling, they just assumed all was well. I resent that, actually all these years later. They got off easy. I went to local state colleges for next to nothing. Never caused them a second of trouble. Became a engineer and they took credit for how I turned out?
It's people like this that make you believe that some people are just born evil. Two sons, close in age, raised by the same parents. One moral, successful, accomplished.... the other a soulless murderer of the worst order. I'm not sure how "helpful" his parents would have been had they found the truth.... the dad was on to him and was about to expose him. And he knew it.
The Father’s Day photo though. You see Mitchell & Bart smiling as father and son while Chandler is just stone faced, looking completely detached. Mitchell turning out well is more than enough proof to me that this didn’t happen because of Bart & Krista’s parenting. If only they had stopped after one child.
Chandler was a spoiled child. He's probably been lying his entire life and never reprimanded properly becoming a total narcissist. You don't just start making up stories at age 23.
I don't believe the dad was going to "expose" him. I think it was more they would have talked with him about the situation, tried to understand, and offered to help him get on the right track. The trial was really informative.and made lots of things clearer.
Ever since my children could talk, we ingrained into them that there was NOTHING that they couldn't tell us. That no matter whatever happened in their lives, we would support them, even if they broke sacred rules. We imparted to them that we would NEVER judge them, that disappointment, did not equal condemnation. That there was ALWAYS a solution. All they had to do was bring their burden to us, to figure out together. Not only did that work, they also went ahead and sent some of their troubled friends to talk to us. That's how much we impressed that notion on them.
I am sure Bart and Christa brought up their sons the way you describe. It’s obvious listening to their family and friends that Bart and Christa were amazing, kindhearted, loving, caring, parents….Mitchell is proof of that….Chandler didn’t care about anyone or anything but himself…. He is evil….his parents, family, friends meant absolutely nothing to him.
That is really really beautiful and powerful that you put such an emphasis on this with your children. Thank you for sharing. Many children have an intense fear of letting their parents down, thus will lie and betray (of course, this case is beyond extreme). But when a parent emphasizes such acceptance, you realize your loved for who you are, not for what you achieve.
You were wonderful parents. Mine said the same thing, but when I loved someone out of our faith and chose to leave that faith they disowned me. Promises are just words unless they back it up. Sounds like you practiced what you preached.

That's not a farmer. That's a professional adult infant moocher who inherited everything from her farmer father and after committing her disable brother to a residential care home. Be realistic. 😊
I have a pretty strong opinion that parenting controls 90% of how a kid turns out. and 10% are genetic things that you cant control like anxiety or disease. I dont believe that people are born a certain way. Its all learned behavior. Mostly from parents with some being from friends as they get older. But the parent can control which friends they can have over, for the most part. So its just a huge part on the parents.
I just watched Cat’s interview with the detectives and you can see she didn’t think Chandler could ever harm his parents. I feel so sad for her and her family too for the trauma he caused them. She seems like such a sweet girl and he definitely didn’t deserve her!
its amazing what he threw away just with her. can you believe that even after he got arrested, she still called him in jail and talked to him for months and months? maybe still does. she's going to need years of therapy to trust again
I remember following this from beginning to end, and I’ve watched many cases, but this one really broke my heart & brought me to tears 😔 This monster had amazing & loving parents, but he took them for granted and I could never imagine hurting my parents ever and they’re a lot like his parents 💔 He deserves to rot for what he did! This is a case I will never forget! My heart aches for Mitchell, because he lost everyone in his family, and I’m so glad he has his fiancé to help him through all of this pain, and I pray he’s able to have a full & happy life after all of this tragedy 💙
Yeah I feel you, it’s easy to get lost in the manipulative and callous evil that is Chandler, and lose sight of poor Mitchell, I too am glad that he has a wonderful woman there supporting him, and let’s hope Cat isn’t throwing pearls to swine. Proof you can give birth to caring and normal, and Evil and Narcissistic. Seen it plenty of times.
I feel real bad for the girlfriend who is probably haunted by this whole thing. She was lied to and set up but, I guess she can rest easy knowing that evidence on HER phone was kind of the straw that broke the camel's back. The other son is living with the fact that his parents got killed by his brother. God help them all.
The girlfriend is a strange person, with her stuffed animals during her interrogation and taking him back after knowing he cheated on her multiple times. I hope she's doing better now and has gotten over him.
@@redsunflowers7322 I think she saw him as a husband material that is why she forgave the cheating but in return track his whereabouts. She even labelled him as "hubby" on the app what wives call their husbands. Just like the parents, she was deceived and misled. Sooner or later she would have met the same fate.
I watched every minute of this trial, and I love that this punk thought he was so tech savvy, he Sven faked having an IT debree. Yet it was a simple screen shot (in addition to a mountain of other evidence) that sealed his fate.

It’s an existential nightmare. I look at my 4yo son when I watch stuff like this and I can’t even imagine him being the end of me. How does that happen? How does a child reach that point?
@@tylerskiss Good questions. For one thing, it takes time. If history is any indication, you've got at least 10 years before there's even the remote possibility it will happen. I believe Chandler has been lying actively and passively (by omission) much longer than was revealed in this video. I attribute the reasons for his actions to be arrogance, narcissism and a practice of lying for many years. The longer he did, the more engrained and conditioned it became as part of his character. If you convey by your words and actions the importance of honest communication, especially about your son's shortcomings, limitations, mistakes, failures, etc and that you are always willing to listen/help, you'll probably prevent it from happening.
@imeldadonaldson2668 How do you not love too much? I'm really asking... I am guilty of it with my kids I never wanted them to have the childhood I had...
Every time with these "perfect" families there's something sinister behind the scenes. They're never as perfect as they make themselves seem to be. There's always some kind of tension brewing. Just because they mask their problems, they end up fooling everyone into thinking they couldn't possibly pull off some scheme. You never know exactly what someone is thinking.
I loved the judge who presided over this case. His gentle soft spoken and polite demeanor was in such contrast to this horrifying crime. He was greatly appreciated by me.
All Bart and Krista wanted was for their boys to become responsible, loving young men and they did everything right , including trusting them too make the right choices.I hope that this life blesses Mitchell in anything and everything he does. Amen.
I loved the prosecutor & judge in this trial. Absolutely incredible job done. If you haven’t watched the whole trial, you should. It was so well put together.
Agreed 💯, the opening prosecution statement alone was that of legend. Judge was on point. Incredible trial, such gruesome & beyond tragic circumstances
I agree!! I’m not sure I’ve ever watched a trial from start to finish. Unbelievable sick human being. The glow of the windows are forever etched in my mind from security cameras from the neighbors. Such a sad story. Poor Mitchel losing his family like this.
This case is hauntingly similar to another case in california- I remember watching the story. The kid was supposedly enrolled in college, receiving money from his parents for years, while living at home. Graduation night (he lied and said he couldn’t walk with his class for unknown reasons), the parents took him out for dinner, and when they all arrived home? There was a shooter. Everyone was shot but the son who supposedly just graduated. He had set up the entire scenario. Paid to have his parents and brother slaughtered, just to hide his deception…………….. pure evil.
Yes, quite similar to this one....Bart Whitaker. Mom & Brother died, Dad got shot but survived. Bart got the death penalty, but Dad forgave him, supports him now and has been trying to get him off of death row. Very sad case!
Heartbreaking. I watched this entire court case. This program is a nutshell. This is beyond sickening. I grew up spending summers in that area. It’s beautiful and so peaceful. My heart goes out to his brother, the family, his girlfriend and the community. Cat slept in that house with the bodies in the freezer in the basement. Mind bending. And his poor mother, she gave birth to a demon.
His poor girlfriend was totally traumatized by the experience. They even had sex on the couch in the living room in front of the fireplace. I hope she was able to get counseling.
@@DonnaJo3452 if you search their jail calls between them she stuck by him long after the arrest. I mean up until it went to trial. Now maybe after the trial she doesn’t have anything to do with him but she was sending him jail money and believed him for a long time post arrest even though the torso was found on her mom’s girlfriends property and basically they watched him dump it. I don’t think she is guilty at all just very naive.
Holy cow. Parents who love their children, dote on them and spend generous amounts of money and energy raising them never know when they're raising a psychopath
Sometimes they eventually DO know. Or see signs of something very wrong in their young child. But it’s hard to get help, and psychopathy is very, very hard to change.
OMG I know the feeling of not wanting to disappoint parents. I almost dropped out of university. Spoke to my mother about my options and finally decided to change majors. That talk was hard but never would I have thought about what this POS did
Most cases sadly don't surprise me, but this guy is so sick and twisted and caused so much unnecessary heartache that I can NEVER forget this case. If I have kids I am gonna show them this case as a lesson on not lying....and not killing people. Just beyond heartbreaking that such wonderful, loving parents were so senselessly killed. And beyond that, he has a brother who badmouths him in public.
Agree.
Never turn you back to him, figuratively and literally.
Sorry for my life story. You're just very very lucky. I'm jelly and happy for you. Bittersweet.
I hope you understand that your parents saving you was a great act of love, compassion, grace and mercy towards you - not an obligation. They did not have to do that.
I am sure they taught him that was well.

I think most of the time, they remember that if they show or act in a biased/unprofessional way, it could be declared a mistrial. So even if they would personally hope their client loses, they can't just let them lose or they'll win in the end.
@T Raybern i don’t think they really get paid too much.
Does defense counsel wish to cross examine the witness? We're good. Are you sure? Oh yeah. What that means is that it is more detrimental to try to cross examine the witness because it is only going to make the case stronger for the prosecution. They were clinging to the small hope of possibly getting one hold out juror to believe there was some reasonable doubt which of course didn't happen.
If Chandler had used the energy he put into lying to making a life for himself he’d have been successful I’m sure.

Same. I think about this case a lot & I think of Bart and Krista. Especially Bart. I didn’t have a dad growing up and would have loved to have a father like Bart. This POS had everything set up for him to have a good life
The family friend shows more emotion than Chandler. It is appalling how the son could go to mercilessly killing both his parents but at the same time meticulously hiding and burning down the evidences. Not only that, he also pretended to go around the neighbourhood looking concerned about his parents disappearance. It is absolutely unfathomable to what extent a person can be deceiving.
There was nothing meticulous about the crime or the attempt to hide and burn the evidence. Couldnt have been any more sloppy, actually.

No amount of wishing he'd have made "other choices" is going to matter. That kind of person doesn't make other choices. He probably also thought he'd performed the perfect crime even though his story had holes in it from one end to the other.

All said and good. But some kids/people will lie abd deceive anyway.......

I dont believe that people are born a certain way. Its all learned behavior. Mostly from parents with some being from friends as they get older. But the parent can control which friends they can have over, for the most part. So its just a huge part on the parents.

From the interview with hos Friends from school I'd guess he might have been able to gode it beneath an appearance of being "funny".
I didn't understand why drugs, meds, or even alcohol was ever mentioned. I bet he was taking drugs and/or on some psych meds.
Mr. Ballen retells this story MASTERFULLY! What a wild and sad ride, though.
One of my favorite channels !!! Also check out the channel "that chapter" with Mike. Another one of my favorites
Matt Orchard has also done a brilliant video about this too
Mr Ballen all the way ❤
Anyone that kills their parents is one sick person!!
Unless you’re the Menéndez brothers.
It’s crazy how someone can just throw their life away for nothing smh
OMG I know the feeling of not wanting to disappoint parents. I almost dropped out of university. Spoke to my mother about my options and finally decided to change majors. That talk was hard but never would I have thought about what this POS did
What's the meaning of a POS
@@sampsonnti that’s meaning of that acronym
@@KhaiHisaishi I'm confused 😕
@@sampsonnti POS means piece of Sh!t
@@sampsonnti Just search for the meaning of the acronym. And if you don't know what an acronym, search that first.
There just are no words for how terribly evil this was.
I think he was too lazy to work and he thought if he killed his parents he could live on their insurance money and he wouldn’t have to work. He was a lazy bum
Lazy and entitled. You can tell his parents meant well and wanted / gave them the best
@@joysreality , spoiled him rotten.
