Some episodes were interviewing spouses while they were in jail. So you can't really tell. Lol

A family should never have to review the crime scene photos because lazy law enforcement won't. This is so sad and yet a beautiful story of familial love and commitment.
So sad, but the father and the sister's determination to find out the truth is amazing. The new investigative team is so respectable.
Makes me wonder how many other “suicides” were actually homicides. RIP Megan
Far more then admitted, we just had a guy that died supposedly by suicide but everyone knows it wasn't, not sure if the cops are really that dumb or just protecting someone.

Way way to many, so many officers dodge paper work, and God forbid having to write a report. 🤦🏽 This was such a good ol boy sloppy job. Small town can't be bothered, she's already dead. And once you keep avoiding writing it up you forget details.
There are so many. If you haven't already heard about it, look up Ellen Greenberg. She was a school teacher from Philadelphia. Huge miscarriage of justice!

The very moment it was revealed that Parra "slid" into the crime scene, I knew right then that he had done it. How is it the cops, already on-scene, didn't raise an eyebrow at such an obvious attempt at contamination of the crime scene? Shameful!
At first it didn't hit me bc I've slid in blood, but when Pops said later on that he did a full on baseball slide - that took the cake!
Oh boy, tis guy knew full well how to tamper with evidence.And this self proclaimed inexpeienced policeman was just not qualified to be a policeman.
Sliding in the blood either to contaminate or in case he had some on him before he could say that's when he got it, pushing away the gun in case his prints were on it, how did he know to check her pockets for the picture? Red flag after red flag and then help from incompetent lazy detectives
We all need a Dad like Megan's. My dad passed when I was 5y.o., but I'd like to believe that if he were here and something happened to me, he'd be my biggest advocate like Megan's Dad.

My so-called" godfather made this big deal at my dad's funeral about how he would step in and take care of me. He began molesting me within the month. My mom had mentally checked out. Thank God my grandmother figured it out and put a stop to it. She raised me from that point on. I love my Gran so much. She's my favorite person in the world.

After years of just living his life like nothing happened, he finally admitted his sins. The niche in hades is being carved for him, the searing hot coal stoked and ready... waiting.... waiting for his inglorious arrival..

My now-ex used to secretly tell my parents that I was very depressed, which was NOT true. It turned out he was repeatedly cheating on me while I was at work & taking care of our children. I was getting upset with catching him in lies, but I was NOT depressed. I literally believe he was planning on killing me when I was pregnant with our 4th. Apparently, he told his girlfriend (on the side) that he was going to poison me and baby because she didn't want to date a guy with children. He certainly didn't tell her about our previous 3. We went to court (restraining order) and she testified under oath. The judge wouldn't grant me a restraining order and called the threat "heresay." I moved back in with my parents and 4 children, went back to college, moved on with my life, and have been in a normal healthy relationship for the past 11 years. Whenever I watch these episodes, I thank God I'm still around to raise my children because if my ex had the opportunity, I believe he would have off'd me and set it up as a "self-inflicted event" too.

IF they had enough evidence, a life sentence would've been ideal and yes it would've given them the kids. The boys can reconnect with their dad after they turn 18 now, really think about that

This happens a lot (not that it’s right) in the Justice system. The prosecutors knew they didn’t have an overwhelmingly easy case to prove without his confession so instead of running the risk of the accused getting found not guilty and getting no jail time. They make deals so at least the family can get the guilty verdict, happens all the time.
Dustin's karma will come to him and it will hit him 10x's worse than what he did. How any woman can stand by a man who killed his wife is beyond me. His current wife is a fool.

I’m Cajun and I know for a fact it’s the tight knit family values of us Cajun people that kept this father unrelenting on proving his beloved child was murdered. Her family never gave up because they knew in their hearts she would never have willingly left her babies or them by taking her own life. A beautiful life cut short by a monster. The fact that he will only serve less than 2 years is awful. My condolences to her boys and family!!

A police officer that doesn’t know he has to take the gun of a presume suicide as evidence and have it analyzed is not just inexperienced, he is plain unfit for the job. He didn’t even interview the husband.

The husband comes sliding through the blood, moves the gun and goes straight for a picture in her POCKET? 😮 He was setting up his DNA and messing up evidence.
And why would a picture of the boys be in that pocket? Unless he put it there? He went right for it as if he knew it was there.. and having a picture of your boys in your pocket doesn't sound like someone who wants to commit suicide and leave those boys without a momma..
Also, she was wearing those hospital paper robes... Do they even have pockets??

The STRENGTH of these parents is incredible! I can't imagine losing a child and not getting answers. I am not sure how they make it through everyday. Incredible people searching and not giving up. Very touching.
As a detective, you work all 'suicides' as a 'homicide' until you can prove that they were a 'suicide' following the evidence. That's how you're supposed to do it, but with these small towns, they don't have the experience of working homicides, so they'll call in the State. And the State has so many other cases that they're overwhelmed and they'll sometimes agree with the investigators at the small-town level of it having been a suicide just to close out the case. It happens every day in 'small-town' America all across the U.S.
My uncle was murdered in a small town in the South and the coroner at least was smart enough to rule his death as 'undetermined' but it has now been 25 years and the local law enforcement 'unofficially' ruled it a 'suicide' and they've done nothing to solve his case. All of my family knows that it was his new wife who was behind his death, she worked for a local 'insurance' company at the time that handled 'Life Insurance' and she had taken out a large insurance policy on my uncle -- but because his death was ruled as 'undetermined' the wife would never be able to collect until his manner of death was ruled a suicide or an accident and that has never happened because the coroner refused to change my uncle's manner of death from 'undetermined' to a 'suicide' so the local police could close it out. At least the Coroner had common sense.
Quite interesting comment, and I think you are 100% right. It is a pity that it happens that way. In spite of all that, I still think that police investigation in the US is among the best in modern industrialised countries. Very imperfect sometimes, yes, but still very good if compared with others.

I concur! I really admire the father’s tenacity and unwavering commitment in getting justice for his daughter. The whole family is great. It’s so unfortunate how the police totally botched the investigation! And Dustin is a total scumbag.. it pisses me off so much that he basically only got a slap on the wrist, considering the severity of his crime… all thanks to the detective’s incompetence. This world is so messed up sometimes. 😔
And her mother and sister. Don’t forget them. And they helped the father pursue the killer.
Her family loved her dearly. I’m so glad they got those boys. ⚜️ RIP Megan.

Look up what the amazing family did after he was charged 😂😂😂😂😂 let him take a plea of 5 years and out after 18 months. FAMILY IS A JOKE
He signed away his parental rights as part of the plea deal. If he was innocent and wanted to be in his kids lives, he would have fought to clear his name. Meghan will never come back and an extra 25 years would not change that. But him never being able to see those boys again is a WIN. They are protected from him and that sorry excuse of a step mother.

Sad part is I see this all the time on videos. Due to sloppy police/detective work, cases go cold for decades. I mean some of them are so damn obvious

Yes, very scary. This happens every day in our country, and most of the time you do not have a dedicated dad like Megan`s. Usually they are just so exhausted and devastated that it is just too much to handle.
Makes you wonder how difficult or easy it was for Chris Knight to become a detective. He more than likely just didn't want to deal with looking into her death even after the family voiced some concerns

18 months in prison and 5 years on parole for killing your wife?
My father killed my mother n he only did 19 mths n that's only because that's how long it took to go court ,n he hit her in the head with an axe n put her in basement for 3 days n the I think the system sucks, he did it because she was leaving him n them idiots give this guy gun back so he can shoot someone else
Despite the fact that the American justice system is the only one in the western industrialised world that can give some sort of satisfactions when it comes to the punishment of murderers, sometimes things don't go right. But things in the whole of the EU, Canada and Auatralia are much worse.

I'm still always shocked at how many people can terminate someone's life then just waltz about the world like nothing. How many have I passed in a store? It's haunting.
Having her death certificate changed from 'suicide' to 'homicide' was more important to the family, for the boys, than risking him possibly walking free. I don't know if I would have had the strength to settle for 5 years.
Dustin Parra was sentenced on 3/9/2023. If, in fact, he is released after 18 months, (Oh, I hope not) he would be out by September of 2024.
WOW, he tried to stage a suicide 😩 he is guilty, Dustin is guilty.
And only gets 18 months? & years probation? Disgusting.
So disheartening how the authorities handled this case.

That father definitely knew his daughter. The determination and tenacity of the father and sister that would not give up until justice was served, was phenomenal! I just hate the fact that he got a slap on the wrist, but the truth was revealed in the end!
Poor woman. Great job by her family and their supporters to see more of the truth come out.
It’s a shame that Chris Knight botched the investigation so egregiously. If a proper investigation had been conducted, there may have been a chance for more decisive justice. Given how lacking the evidence was after the fact, I think this was the most realistic outcome.

The worst part is he thinks that what matters is he meant no harm, if he botched it it’s not because he meant to, and that’s supposed to make it ok somehow. Just the fact that he attempted to cover his tracks and say he wasn't there, should have warranted an extensive sentence in itself.
She was loved in life and death. What an amazing family and the strength of her father to pursue justice for all those years is remarkable to watch.

Yes, I thought so too when I saw the lovely photo of the two sisters, and the interview with the Father,Mother,and other sister at the table.
I hoped for but never had a sister, and I know they can turn out bad too. But one of my brothers shot me in the back when he was six and I was seven. Fortunately he did it with his BB gun and I had on a thick winter coat, so no damage beyond a little hole in the back of the coat that didn’t go all the way through. But that along with other bad behavior made it so I never trusted him. And when he died a couple years ago, I wasn’t sad.
This family is amazing. Her mom gave me chills "get those boys"

My Dad past away in 2020 and I can see my mom and dad doing this same thing if something happened to me.
That first officer absolutely dropped the ball. But not just "dropped" actively lied about his findings (he had not tested the gun) and what experts had stated (about it being hard to tell). Honestly there's no excuse, I'd be furious as the family that the murderer didn't get a stronger sentence because the officer stupidly ended up destroying most of the evidence.

There must have been a connection between Chris Knight and the husband. As another commentator said ‘he so egregiously botched the investigation.’ Was it purely out of laziness, or basically not wanting to create more work for himself? Also, the Attorney Investigator’s brother, the one who passed from COVID, would be so proud of his brother.

Calling to tell her mom she was taking a bath while you ran to get a prescription. Obviously she was already dead. Or he thought she was.

How that officer could sit there, with a straight face, and say that. What he means is, "I was lazy, I did not have good investigative skills, and too embarrassed to ask for help." Overwhelmed? Just how many murders were you handling at the time?

The problem is that the investigation at the beginning was so terrible that it’s almost impossible to prosecute. Even if he did do it, you can’t prove it now
