  • In this video I will show you an easy and effective way to judge the space available for you to overtake a line of parked cars while also taking into account any oncoming cars. This amazing tip will make decisions on whether to overtake much easier for learner drivers who might struggle with spatial awareness.

    Cars shouldn't be allowed to park on both sides of the road like this. Better road design is definitely needed in these places. Unfortunately all we can do as road users is make sure we're playing safe, this video is a great help in learning how to do so needless to say.

    • @DaneTygheletsdrive
      @DaneTygheletsdrive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe you were pressing it too much or lifting it too quick and causing the car to jump or jerk. You need to be smooth and controlled and avoid jumps, jerks or stalling. Sometimes when moving off if you lift the clutch a bit quick and without enough acceleration the car may stall/cut out so with this in mind - whatever car you are driving just make sure you are confident moving off and getting a good biting point on the hill. If you do stall - don’t worry - just pull up the handbrake, avoid roll back and restart - if you don’t panic and keep the car under control then the tester may be impressed by your recovery.
      Coasting can be a problem for some learners, some people do this in the mistaken belief that it gives them more control but in fact the opposite is the case, when you coast the cars engine goes all quiet and very often the car ends up speeding up especially on a downhill, and the lack of engine noise makes learner drivers think they are in control when they are not. Coasting gives the car forward momentum which is handy changing gears on the uphill but not when approaching junctions or roundabouts, this video explains the dangers of coasting
      th-cam.com/video/Y-jciPi0nTM/w-d-xo.html&pbjreload=101
      What you need to do is think more brake and less clutch, more b less c, this will give you more time and control and this in turn can lead to you getting extra checks at the junction or roundabout as you might have a little extra time. It's so important that you brake consistently on the downhill - don't let go of the brake just because you happen to be changing gears - this can lead to a sudden increase in speed. And don’t forget to release the clutch slowly when going down the gears - doing it slow helps to make the transition into the gear smoother - don’t just fly off the clutch as this will cause jumps or jerks.
      If you watch this video I will explain in a clear way what I mean-

      Thanks for the response Dane.
      I was told Im clutching too early and hold on to the clutch too much... I did that at the traffic light, because there was 2 cars in front and I wanted to be ready to move off, and I place on hand on the hand brake...

    • @DaneTygheletsdrive
      @DaneTygheletsdrive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tester means that you are holding the clutch in too much when you are moving. It's perfectly fine to hold the clutch in and wait in 1st gear. Don't confuse these things, if you watch the videos I've linked then you will understand.
