Your wonky improv-ness is really making my heart happy. This may be my quilting happy place!! I’m trying to imagine this type of quilt made up either in seasons (quadrants) or maybe day to night!!?? Ooh the possibilities 💜🩵🩷
Okay, so I think a monster is in the making. I made a green random quilt and a blue random quilt for my grandsons last year for Christmas. I then had a mountain of scraps leftover, so I decided to make a king size quilt for my brother who is turning 80 years old in October 2024. Because I didn't want to have much left over I decided to go wonky town with the blocks and this is going to suite me fine as my brother will critique the quilt and I now hae the excuse that Nicki made me do it!!! lol, so thanks for the alibi😄It really is turning out quite nice and it is freeing to not put such high expectations on myself.
I am loving the progress you are making on your wonky medallion quilt. Looking forward to seeing the complete quilt top. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm with us! Have a great week.
I like your little golden wonky tree….keep it and put it in with others like it, maybe all monochromatic trees that color tilting every which way. Very inspirational.
This is so cute and I love the improv, be-creative-and-just-have fun spirit that you've embraced with this project. I was literally telling someone this morning that I have this terrible habit of taking my hobbies that I do for fun and relaxation and turning them into work (either literal work/employment or by doing over-committed, stressful gift-making). This feels like the opposite of that, kind of like just getting out some random art supplies and drawing and painting whatever comes into your head for the joy of it. (That said, I also feel like the direction the quilt is going in would turn into the cutest kid quilt that could double as a play mat. I literally cannot stop thinking about making gifts at this time of year). Coincidentally, the maintenance people at my apartment building have also decided now would be a great time to use a leaf blower.
Gwen Marston was amazing! Very inspiring and talented with such a wonderful eye for design and fearless color. She authored many exceptional books too.
Welcome to KY!! I am from Paducah and the Quilt show is a MUST SEE! I am so excited to have found you and your channel. Your Wonky House quilt is fabulous! I am just learning to sew at 58 yrs old and am enjoying all the ideas and information that I am finding on TH-cam. Also thanks for the tip on Gwen Marston. I look forward to finding out more information about her. Again welcome to KY and I can not recommend enough the Quilt Show. Bring a little pocket change cause in addition to the actual fabulous quilt displays there are lots of vendors. It will be like a quilters toys store!
Bonjour Nikki. Merci. Régine 🇫🇷🌲🌟
I have two turning cutting boards - a six inch which I enjoy for small projects, and a 17 inch by 17 inch which I enjoy for larger projects. I wouldn't part with either one.
And I *LOVE* my rotating cutting mats. When ya need em, ya need em. I've had a couple and it was worth it to pay extra for one with ball bearings. They are far superior to the flat ones IMO. Love these wonky trees. What a great idea! And wonky houses, just in time to wonkify my house blocks. Liberating indeed. Thank you.
I do a lot of EPP and I love my rotating cutting mat. I have the 16” Sue Daley one it’s big enough to trim lots of different pieces. It has ball bearings and is really smooth.
I want to make this quilt so bad but I am having to get enough Christmas stuff made for a local store that I haven’t gotten to start yet. 😢 I love love what you have done and can’t wait to try it.
Great video! You have such a charismatic video personality! :) Anyway, I just returned from a trip that took me through Paducah, KY. If you ever have a chance, go visit the National Quilt Museum and Hancocks of Paducah Quilt store (It's nearly the size of an airplane hanger) there in Paducah....You will get lost in the store....and love it! Both you and your Mom should enjoy it immensely! All the best!
I am giving myself tomorrow as a day off and planning to spend lots of time trying this! By the way, I love that little iron. May I ask where you found it?
I think you would love a rotating mat, especially being the freestyling sewist that you are.😊 I kept watching msqc daily sale for a good deal and it doesn't have to be huge to be helpful.
I have a 14x14 small mat that I use for my turning mat- it works great! It was like 6 bucks at Wally World. Thanks for the cute ideas on your wonky blocks. Will be looking for your quilts debut when you get it all together.
Agree with @monavance2125... you asked about rotating cutting mat. I invested in a square "7 layers" self-healing square mat (very affordable) on Amazon, and its worth every penny. Also received circle rotating rotary mat (Olfa I think) and use it as well, both are great. BTW, how can we send you a post card? Some presenters give a physical add where they receive cards, snail mail... POB? Thank you again for sharing. I'm loving this wonky world!
Rotating cutting mat can be accomplished with a small cutting mat, 6x8 or 7x9. They sell them at the dollar store. Works just as good as the rotating mat.
Any small mat spins. There is no need to invest in one that will get weird with lint and string over time. Just get a little 12 by 12 cutting mat so you can easily move it in whatever direction you need to. Love the wonky tree!!! Im starting a wonky christmas quilt, and these ideas are great!!
I have a 17" square Olfa mat that spins. It is flat the cutting surface with the measurements and a backing. the truning mechanism is in between the back and front. I really like the size as i find the space is nice to have just in case! The only thing I did not like about it was that the materials used to make the the spinning mat had a very strong rubber or glue smell that took a good while to dissipate. I think as much as you like to cut and sew it will make you very happy.
Great tutorial. I loved the Legally Blonde reference. I have a rotating mat by Olfa? I like it but it takes more space then you think it would as it rotates as a square. A deam mat would be a Martinelli. It is round with ball bearings and moves so smooth. I saw a smaller six inch rotating mat too on someone's web site. Try out some friend mats to see what will work for you.
How CUTE!! I have a rotating cutting mat, and it is worth every single penny I paid for it! I have the Olfa spinning mat, but there are others out there that are not nearly as expensive.
With that cute shell necklace I could see you were pearls and a cocktail dress with a beautiful apron. It would suit you but I love the wonky version BEST! ❤
I’m wanting to cut a piece of a tshirts out and sew onto a jacket.. I’ve tried to look up tutorials on this, but a lot of them use fabric glue.. do you need interface for this?
I would use something called fusible web, follow the directions and it sticks tshirt piece onto your jacket so you can stitch it on and it will never come off!
@@PinCutSewthank you so much!! I went out and bought the fuse extra hold. I don’t think I can see over it.. I’ve heard it can gum up sewing machine… so hopefully this one works 😅
I enjoy your videos and think your quilt is darling, but I'm not a wonky kind of person. My brain looks at your trees and tries to straighten them out.
Would you please design me a pattern for a pack of cigarettes in an a lighter. I had one that I bought a long time ago but I gave it to a friend and I haven't found another one.
I love the idea of your wonky quilt, but in my brain, I’m straightening all the pieces! This is such a cute idea. I may try it after all my Christmas crafting is done. I do have a question: what’s the smallest size of scrap you keep in your stash? Thanks for sharing!
Very cute! The turning mats are 100% worth the money. I have a large square and a small round. Paducah quilt week is way overrated. It's extremely expensive as everything in the down becomes super expensive - for that week. Neat place but if I ever go again it will be any other time than quilt week.
I would like wonky to be my middle name! Love it. And I just searched and bought Gwen Marstons book. I have her Liberated quilt making and it was great.
Thank you for sharing. This is fun. That tree you did not like looks like almost looks like a house, a tree house in an forest. Perhaps just add a chimney and a layer of logs outside.
So pleased that we can focus on the design making and not watching a sewing machine doing what sewing machines do. Love ❤️ your approach.
Your wonky improv-ness is really making my heart happy. This may be my quilting happy place!! I’m trying to imagine this type of quilt made up either in seasons (quadrants) or maybe day to night!!?? Ooh the possibilities 💜🩵🩷
That would be so cool!!
First, your personality is so fun! Second, I adore this idea! I wanted something I could make as a “soother”….. this is perfect!❤. Thanks for sharing!
Okay, so I think a monster is in the making. I made a green random quilt and a blue random quilt for my grandsons last year for Christmas. I absolutely love this!!!
Very interesting watching your thought/cutting/sewing process - thanks for the many tips and ideas 😍
I say this with total sincerity..You are just the cutest. Lol it makes me happier watching your videos❤️
Aw, thank you so much 🤗
I love your channel so much😊🪡🧵👍🏻👍🏻
How freaking adorable!
I love watching you create. The liberated medallion quilt history was very informative and piqued my interest. 💐🎶💖
Thank you sharing 😊
Love your creativity!
Hilarious. I'm trying to drown out the building's leaf blower guy and that was the first thing you said. LOL Really enjoying your channel.
You r right, too cool for school! ❤
I have been so waiting for this video!! ❤😊🤩
So cute. Well, I do have a turning cutting mat and I don’t use it as often as I should. I find it very helpful when the time comes.
I have the rotating mat and i think it is a total game changer. Saves so much time
Very clever and exceptionally fun. Looking forward to your finished Wonky Town quilt!! ♥️

Get the rotating mat. Mine is 16” and is sooo handy for squaring up blocks. You deserve one.
Ok good to know!
I love this so so much!!!
You really enjoy the creativity and make it seem so easy. Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas.
Gwen Marston was amazing! Very inspiring and talented with such a wonderful eye for design and fearless color. She authored many exceptional books too.
I use a cake decorating spinning plate as a turning table under a 12” ruler. Works great. The turntable spice trays work too and are so much cheaper!
Your channel always makes me smile😊
Aw 🤗 thank you

I definitely need to do take a trip to the quilt show in the next few years!
Adorable! You are quite clever and creative.

Great 👍❤️🧵

Just discovered your channel and the wonkiness of these trees speaks to my heart! Thank you for the inspiration. Next project for sure!

Super! and wonderful for spreading the wonky/liberated quilt news. It's a happy way to design and make quilts, right! I love your projects too.
Oh my gravy I love wonky log cabins and oh what fun houses trees and and gotta try
I do a lot of EPP and I love my rotating cutting mat. I have the 16” Sue Daley one it’s big enough to trim lots of different pieces. It has ball bearings and is really smooth.
I have a one i love it

That’s awesome, we’ll have to plan a trip!!
I am giving myself tomorrow as a day off and planning to spend lots of time trying this! By the way, I love that little iron. May I ask where you found it?
It’s the Sharper Image brand and I got it on Amazon. Very affordable and does the job!
So fun!! ❤
I love my rotating cutting mat. I requested it for Christmas one year.
I think you would love a rotating mat, especially being the freestyling sewist that you are.😊 I kept watching msqc daily sale for a good deal and it doesn't have to be huge to be helpful.
Oh and your project is so cute!!
I love m’y turning mat. Makes cutting so much easier.
Absolutely love everything wonky.. so genius.. I just ordered the rotating cutting mat..
I just love crumb quilting, so this just makes sense 😍😍😍 so cute!
I have a 14x14 small mat that I use for my turning mat- it works great! It was like 6 bucks at Wally World. Thanks for the cute ideas on your wonky blocks. Will be looking for your quilts debut when you get it all together.

I made the prosperity hens...It was so fun. Thank you so much. I love your channel and I want to try the wonky house now. I'm having so much fun!
If you have a Dollar Tree by you try looking there for small cutting mats. I have one by me that sells 5x8 cutting mats for $1.25.
Rotating cutting mat can be accomplished with a small cutting mat, 6x8 or 7x9. They sell them at the dollar store. Works just as good as the rotating mat.

This is SO much fun!! Gwen Marston was a huge inspiration to me. I think she passed away a few years ago.
Love your tutorials. I’ve been two years to the Paducah quilt week. I love it but I spend to much. ha ha
I love my turning cutting mat. I think it would be perfect for you.
Rotating cutting mats are great. I use mine several times a week.
That quilt is soooo creative and I love your tips😉
I love how your mind works! Thank you!
You are so fun to watch and props to your daughter’s editing, she’s fabulous xx
How CUTE!! I have a rotating cutting mat, and it is worth every single penny I paid for it! I have the Olfa spinning mat, but there are others out there that are not nearly as expensive.
I enjoy your videos! Going to attempt the trees.
Thanks for the lesson. I will have to try.
I have a turntable mat and I use it a lot
It's going to be absolutely adorable! I just can not wrap my mind around improv & that makes me sad 😞
Aw, you can do it!
Enjoying this series.
Fun😊
Love it!
So cute!
❤❤❤❤❤❤

It’s not patches.. it’s pieces of a tshirt. LOVE your content! I’ve made three draw string bags after purchasing your pattern!!!
I would use something called fusible web, follow the directions and it sticks tshirt piece onto your jacket so you can stitch it on and it will never come off!

I seem to keep scraps that are around 2” or more.

I just requested that one on thriftbooks, I hope they get one in soon!
