Awesome video, this should be a regular thing. As much as I love watching you guys play games, I also love hearing you talk about games. I would love a video like this of your favorite games ever, regardless of when they came out.
still halfway through your video but just paused to say this: "You rule!!". This is adding a lot to my "to buy" list but it's refreshing to see a list of games where it's all about how much you liked it, how much you played it and how much it changed your view on BG. Very different from reviewing a game that came out a month ago. Thank you all for this.
Glad to see Arkham Horror getting some love! It is my all-time favorite game primarily because I only ever play with my youngest daughter - the experience of playing with her is always terrific!
Great video! It's interesting to see video discussions like this of the older classic games. I realize I'm a little "late to the party" as I have only been in the hobby for a few years. I've loved board games since I was a little kid but I was brought back to the hobby by Wil Wheaton's TableTop. There are so many games on these lists that I have never heard of, and I hope I get a chance to experience many of these some day.
I wish the game names were posted underneath while you were talking about them in the video because i focused on what you were saying about it and forgot a few times so I had to rewind the video, but you were so passionate it made me rewind. I just wish I wasn’t easily distracted
@Cabal Paxiarch Dice tower make list of top board games all the time and they are well known of that and since that guys made first list of that kind I stated I prefer their taste and attitude for hobby . I made a public comment and there was no question I was answering so from my point of person writing a comment it was relevant whatsoever. I think that theres no point to further clarification of my motivation. Take care and give people right to say they want.
When I saw that Gamenight! was addressing Classics, I was disappointed that it wasn't a playthrough of a current game. However, I ended up watching the entire 100 min+ and really enjoyed it!
Just a besserwisser comment to the discussion at 1:32:00 about which game that knocked down Puerto Rico from BGG #1: It was Agricola, and not Twilight Struggle. Agricola then hold the place 2008-2010 until Twilight Struggle replaced it.
Bohnanza is still fantastic. It's like tgat familiar card game that comes out without any effort but always fun. Settlers was also the game I was introduced to in the 90s, also lead to me finding BGG. But I find it a bit long now. I should probably try it again.
My majority of games are from after 2007 but i do own a fair share of pre 2007 games. And some of them can still compete with modern games or even overshadow them. I really like the early work from Michael Kiesling, Wolfgang Kramer games likes Tikal, mexica and torres. Ticket to ride is in my top 10 of all time.
That was fun! Though, I'm sad that nobody mentioned Twilight Imperium. Whether you enjoy it or not, it's one of those games that everyone's heard of as it almost defines "epic 4x" type games. Even though a lot of games do parts of what it does and some of them do those parts better, the epic whole that is TI really does make it a classic.
Two old games I love and that still come out are Labyrinth and Master Thieves (Meisterdiebe). Labyrinth is a family classic, now an app. Master Thieves unfortunately is a rare German game, only a few were made. Today I think it would be a successful Kickstarter project. Families love both of these.
Rik77 I own a copy of Labyrinth but have never actually played it. I need to get that in. Master Thieves I had the opportunity to play once and I really enjoyed it. I could never justify the cost or the size of it for my collection and it’s only gotten more expensive and I’ve purchased many humongous games so I should have gone for it then. Thanks for the note and for watching.
Great video! You all should do more discussion videos. Really enjoyed. I actually like older games more than newer ones. I just like old design more, and I'm a huge Games Workshop fan. I recently put together my top 25, and 12 of my favorite games of all time are pre-1997.
Great video! This is the first time I've stumbled across it and enjoyed it immensely. I won't say what my No1 game is, because if I do, I'll be banned from anything BGGish for all time! 😂
History of the World would be one of my top couple pre 2007. Also Axis and Allies is too classic to have been left out. Likewise, Fortress America. Nuclear War card game. Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. I'm sure some Avalon Hill war game or another - Advanced Squad Leader for me, once upon a time (I would never relearn it now); Bridge over Arnhem is a nice system. I don't think I would go there, but someone could have said Chess. Also, as a lighter wargame, someone could have chosen Memoir 44.
Well, since no one mentioned Cosmic Encounter, you're just wrong. :-) Also, put me down for several other Sid Sackson games: Sleuth and Monad. Also, sorry Mike, but Empire Builder! (or other crayon rails). Some places where I agree is Ticket to Ride, Bohnanza (not necessarily one of my favorites, but I will play it if someone wants to), Magic:the Gathering. Some places where I disagree with your picks are (Settlers of) Catan. Never really enjoyed it. Didn't and don't see what people saw in it (maybe because I had been playing board games for several decades before that). And Vinci has an interesting story. When I first played it, I was like "Eh. it's okay, I'd play it again if someone really wanted to , but not my favorite". When Small World came out, I loved it to death, and only found out much later it's just a reimagining of Vinci (basically, when I pulled out Vinci to give it another chance after a decade, and was like.. "hey, wait a minute....") Of course, Small World isn't eligible for this list.
@@marcusleja7133 I have the original Iron Dragon. Inherited from my late brother (like all my rail games except for original Empire Builder), but haven't yet had the chance to play it (for reasons) It is definitely the next one that my son and I want to play when we get a chance, though.
Wow! Other than Ticket to Ride and Carcossonne, none of my favorite games made any of the lists. Battlemist, Talisman, Robo Rally, Heroscape, Munchkin, etc...
Hey Hop, he says Die Siedler (for Die Siedler von Catan) referring to it's original German release title. Thanks for the note and for watching.-Lincoln
great video guys. My no. 1 should have been El Grande too. It prob still sits as the best area control game in my collection. Did any of you ever play Middle Earth CCg from Iron Crown Enterprises? that's probably my favorite card game of all time.
Michael Nickoloff did u go past beyond the first expansion? I will say that the game is quite complex and has some errata. But, after you understand the rules and know the cards, it's quite rich and complex. No game involves you better into Tolkien than this ccg. I played magic, sw from decipher and other ccgs, and although those games are easier to get into this one is unique for me. It's still to this day my favorite ccg.
I think in the first wave off CCGs, we played: Magic, Shadowfist, Star Trek: CCG, Illuminati, Jyhad (Vampire: the Eternal Struggle), On the Edge, Doomtrooper, Heresy, Highlander, Kult, L5R, and Ani-Mayhem. (We treat Shadowrun, Doomtown & 7th Sea second wave). These all came out within a total of 3 years. Imagine us, all between 16-20 years old (with some disposable income) trying to buy, learn, play and collect 10+ CCGs. You can see how good games got lost. In our gaming group in Pasadena, there was a large number of ME players, but none really overlapped with Shadowfist (our 2 biggest non-Magic CCGs in that group).
Settlers of Catan is still a pretty good game...the only thing that I would say I don't like it will sometimes last a little too long...depending on who I play with we may play to just 8 points instead of 10 just so it doesn't take so long to play.
Now we need a best games list from 2007 to now. This was great.
I love that this started with Dave explaining the rules of the ... discussion.
Awesome video, this should be a regular thing. As much as I love watching you guys play games, I also love hearing you talk about games. I would love a video like this of your favorite games ever, regardless of when they came out.
I agree this was great
Great hearing you guys discuss about some of the classics.
The round table table idea with the back and forth is excellent. So enjoyed it I watched it twice

This is so fun to watch. Love hearing you all talk about your favorite games. Hope you do something like this again.
Love these round-table discussions!
I love your show. Please keep them coming.
Great video and format would love you to do a top 10 best ever games the same way

This is a different aspect/format than TableTop. You might like GameNight better.
I wish the game names were posted underneath while you were talking about them in the video because i focused on what you were saying about it and forgot a few times so I had to rewind the video, but you were so passionate it made me rewind. I just wish I wasn’t easily distracted
you guys seem more the people i would like to play than dice tower crew
@Cabal Paxiarch you re right. I just dont see what you refering to
@Cabal Paxiarch Dice tower make list of top board games all the time and they are well known of that and since that guys made first list of that kind I stated I prefer their taste and attitude for hobby . Love Survive , brings back good memories from my childhood , Awesome pick
Great video guys :) I love bohnanza too. Keep up the stellar work.
Oooh! Can't wait for a post-2007 version of this discussion. ;)
That's kind of where I think we are going. If so what do we do next year? Thanks for the note and for watching. -Lincoln

Loved the episode! Happy New Year! And many more cool episodes this year!
Source of the Nile -- just wow. I thought I was the only one who had really fond memories of that game.
My majority of games are from after 2007 but i do own a fair share of pre 2007 games. And some of them can still compete with modern games or even overshadow them. Nice discussion. Just wish you kept each game title on screen while discussing it.
Fastly coming to my mind missing are 'Manhattan', 'Yinsh' and 'Liars Dice'. A little more personal place in my heart has 'Kahuna'.
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! Great video- as always!!
great video! got some ideas for some games to try, and some to dust off from my library.
This video feels like the Thanksgiving of boardgames.

Great video guys. Cant wait for more.
I hope the folks at Restoration Games are taking notes!
Awesome one of my favourite things on boardgamegeek
I love gamenight
No Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective? My mom and Shut Up and Sit Down won't be happy to hear that.
Great video! This is the first time I've stumbled across it and enjoyed it immensely.
I won't say what my No1 game is, because if I do, I'll be banned from anything BGGish for all time! 😂
I was curious about Harry's Grand Slam Baseball. You guys joked about how obsessed Dave was with the game but never got around to describing it.
Great video!
Great job guys
Great content! Mark's ninja cough made me spill my dink

I was surprised Lowenherz wasn't mentioned.

Crayon games are the worst.
I was close to having CE on my list, but for some reason every time I play the game I never really enjoy the end game! I still like the game a lot.
Iron Dragon (2017 re-print) is an awesome crayon rail game. Super fun.
@@marcusleja7133 I have the original Iron Dragon. Inherited from my late brother (like all my rail games except for original Empire Builder), but haven't yet had the chance to play it (for reasons) It is definitely the next one that my son and I want to play when we get a chance, though.
Should put the artwork of the games mentioned.
Nice show. Missing a Stefan Feld or two on the list, but it doesnt matter :)
Wyatt Earp! Good call.
Wow! Other than Ticket to Ride and Carcossonne, none of my favorite games made any of the lists. Battlemist, Talisman, Robo Rally, Heroscape, Munchkin, etc...
What does he say at 22:13?
Hey Hop, he says Die Siedler (for Die Siedler von Catan) referring to it's original German release title. Thanks for the note and for watching.-Lincoln

Yes, but gave it up. It's just not a great game of the 1stgen CCGs.
Michael Nickoloff did u go past beyond the first expansion? I will say that the game is quite complex and has some errata. Please instill a new rule... NO candy eating at the game table.
But if Euphrates & Tigris (as the European early edition was called) inspired Scott to start BGG, why does Die Macher have game id 1? :)
The original ids were determined by the original session reports we had to enter into the database.
Settlers of Catan is still a pretty good game...the only thing that I would say I don't like it will sometimes last a little too long...depending on who I play with we may play to just 8 points instead of 10 just so it doesn't take so long to play.
Fun video!
How old is Mike? He looks young asf
Did you all ever play Dune?!
Did you watch the video?? You will get the answer if you do.
Battleline is a better edition of Schotten totten. Just a better game.
Yo !!!
Bleh...I just don't like Bohnanza. I hate the forced trading.
Interesting video, but Mike’s constant lip smacking sounds really, really cut through on his mic, very off putting
Great discussion. However, there is a persistent mouth smacking going on that is really distracting. Just an FYI there.
Unfortunately, Mike’s continuous mouth noises (when he wasn’t talking) made this nearly unwatchable. Can’t that be edited out?
