Followed you instruction, found the lock lubricant you used and after about 1 day the key went in. Only thing i did different was i sprayed a great amount of electronic cleaner spray so as to remove any dirt that might be in there. At the end i used 3 in 1 oil and put it on the key multi. times as moving the ignition switch back and forth. It is working great! Thank you for taking the time to make this video. So appreciate it!

The key would not go into the ignition and I noticed the steering wheel was not locked while fully in the parked gear!! After about 30 minutes of using 3 in 1 while working the key into the ignition, I began to hear the open door car bell. 15 minutes later using more 3 in 1, BINGO!!!! The key was inserted and the car cranked... Thanks a lot.

Thanks for sharing your experience. This same thing happened to my ’10 Passat. The weirdest thing! I just drove and parked. I didn’t spend 5 mins. Ready to leave, the key would not go in. After several tries with the key, I wiggled my handy little nail clipper swing out file. It didn’t help but then out of the blue, maybe wiggling the locked steering wheel, the key just went right in! Whew! Will get some lock lubricant.

Thank you so much! Worked for my 2007 Rabbit, took about 5 minutes. If you look inside the ignition, you can see a little white piece. I tried pushing that all the way back, along with spraying some lube in it and the key eventually slipped in. If the steering wheel is locked and you have the key in, try holding the wheel all the way to one side, then turning the key. It should start right up and unlock the wheel. Thank you so much, once again! Saved me a few hundred dollars. Much love

Glad you found this helpful. It reminded me to apply some lube to the ignition switch again.

Hi ! THANKS a lot for this video. I was loosing patience and was about to call the insurance company and the mechanics as the key wouldn’t go in the cylinder. You helped me a lot as it ended up by working.

Key hanging in the ignition seemed a bit risky for me. It is a stick - so I suppose that is some protection from theft these days.

I’m going through this right now. Totally paranoid every time I take my key out of the ignition. I just bought this car 3 weeks ago (preowned 2015 Passat Wolfsburg). My electrical system has grounded out completely. Got that fixed, and now the key issue. Ughhh.. my next car will be a horse. I cannot get a creak with car problems.

      Keep it lubricated.

@@AndrewBrenner1 every chance I get I have been spraying it down lightly with the dry lub. So far so good! That’s definitely the trick. Thank you

@@caitlinsteffen5297 hey Caitlin here’s what I did.. once you get your key in… pull it almost all the way out and spray WD40 on the key and a little bit in the ignition. Like 2 second sprays. Then put the key all the way in and out the pull it almost all the way out repeatedly (don’t let the key all the way out) I kept doing this for a couple days and it seems fine now.. I’ll admit I left my key in the ignition for 3 days while I did the WD40 therapy because I was scared I wouldn’t get it in again. lol! But that’s what I did and it did in fact work.

I’m having a similar issue right now with my Ford Explorer. I was able to get the key in with some wiggling back and forth and some WD40 and now I’m trying to get it to actually turn. I wonder if this’ll help with that… 🤔

Volkswagen sucks! My wife owns one that thing is the bain of my existence! Even DIY is expensive cause the parts cost a fortune even though the quality is terrible.

Audi, Saab, Honda, Mitsubishi, heck look up the price of a Ford Ranger headlight. Parts are expensive for virtually everything.

This is a true “me too” moment. 2005 Honda CR-V I had put a different key in the ignition by accident and it set this situation up. I’ll have to try to find this stuff. 🎉💪🏼🙌🏼
