This happened to me 2 years ago, luckily 20 minutes before the dealership closed, so I ran the car over, and they said it was a recall and fixed it for free. However, this just started again. So far, I can either wiggle the key out or put the car in reverse, then drive, then the key will release. It's probably not a long-term solution, but I will use all these tips, thank you
if its really stuck and some of these suggestions do not work, make the key fob a right angle, as if folding the key in normally, bungie cord it to the brake pedal as if trying to turn the car off with the bungie cord attached to the folded fob part, and tap with hammer and thin punch at ignition lock itself. the tension help from the bungie will help apply twisting pressure, and hopefully you can jar the obstruction loose by tapping at ignition lock (the part key goes into) with hammer and punch.

Another great tip if the key is stuck in the on position, is to take something like the handle of a screwdriver and tap the butt of the key while turning it off. Works pretty frequently for me when shimmying the wheel doesn’t want to work!
All I got the key out this am.. put fuse back in and had to charge battery so it is working but at least I know what I have to do in case I run into that problem again until I can fix it... ☺️

I have a 2012 CC and the start is a key-push start. I had the key stuck with the car on and couldn't get it to turn off. They key came out and the car stayed on, I pushed my finger inside and there's a clip to left side that I flicked and it came off.

Someone help me put the car on neutral and help me move the car where I can park but then the key finally came out… my car isn’t safe to drive cause once I put gas in my car the car decides to shut off by itself when I once I did a full stop then once I try to turn it off the key got stuck.

Hello, I have an alternate solution that may work for some of y'all, it worked for me one time when all of these methods failed. You can get a pair of pliers (I used locking pliers) and just brute force the key turn. Obviously do this at your own risk, since its a bit aggressive, but it worked out for me.

Taking the fuse out will shut down car. Ignition issue is separate thing that needs to be fixed.

The putting it in Drive and then slamming it in Park did it for me!! You rock!!

Spraying things like wd40 inside them just makes them worse ..it washes the oil out of them .

This is great for emergencies but it doesn't actually explain a *fix* for the issue (replacing the ignition cylinder)

You mentioned to take the fuse box cover out using your key , but the key is stuck in the ignition barrel 😂😂
Or to shut off the engine in some cases is to put it in gear and pop the clutch with the brakes on.
What about if I disconnect the battery while the car is running?

Disconnecting the battery won't shut the car off without frying the alternator first. Very bad advice there!
I did this and it starts fine, but will shut right back off. Codes for instrument cluster I have no idea what to do
