    I watched this one #34 last night. I’m almost caught up! Thank you for letting us glimpse your world of slow living, and very hard work! Besides the homestead, I really appreciate that you let us in on your artwork, and how you are trying to make it financially. More and more of us are trying to live in an alternative lifestyle and economy. It’s beautiful that gifts from neighbors come in the form of food and labor.
    PS Your artwork is amazing!!!!

    Just found your channel a few weeks ago as one of your "tour" videos came up as a suggestion. After that, I went back to watch from the beginning, and finished the videos this morning. So interesting! I only wish I had known at your age that I wanted to do such a thing, but it's fascinating to watch your projects unfold. Thanks for the lovely videos and insight into your lifestyle. And the cat always makes me laugh!

    Only just watched this one, feel like it's not too late to make a suggestion. Grapes become a force unto themselves, especially the first four/five foot of them. I wrapped them around a pagoda post like a saw you doing twenty years ago now. They are now a threat to the structure with their slow but determined growth. I'd suggest just running the leaders straight up to the top of the post without wrapping them around. Thankyou for sharing your journey :)

    For your pond you can make small gloating islands of plants on your pond using a ring of thick recycled polystyrene in a drawstring sack filled with some substrate and planted with sedges, or water horsetails etc, they look attractive too.

    All your seedlings look so healthy! Sorry 😞 you lost so many to frost, it can be so discouraging to finally get them in the ground and then have a unexpected cold night. This spring in Canada 🇨🇦 where I live was warmer than usual and I took a chance planting things earlier, fortunately I didn’t lose any, but I think I got lucky! Luv ❤the pond! I planted the leftover tomato plants (that did not fit into the greenhouse) outside at the end of May and the very next night (must have been the same night of your frost) they got severe frost damage. However, I did not remove them since the central stalk seemed firm. Now it is coming back from the side shoots. You can multiply indeterminate tomato plants from the shoots almost indefinitely.

    • @The.Land.of.Slow.Living
      @The.Land.of.Slow.Living  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried that too with the tomatoes! But I think the frost got too deep into them, and only a couple made some shoots! Now I got some left-over tomatoes from the neighbors so that's great

    It's a job you are so young and agile packing
    all those rocks around-what an undertaking!
    Your pond will look quite wonderful when all
    the plants have grown in it! Would a skimmer
    help with controlling the mosquito larvae?
    You would have to import a ton of dragon
    flies to keep the moggies down!! Your garden
    looks so healthy with all the seaweed and
    straw mulch around the plants! Too bad
    about the frost on the tomato plants! In the
    Okanogan where I live,I have to make sure
    my plants are covered during the hottest
    parts of the day! We all have different
    growing pains!❤. Cheers from Canada,

    We do not need rubber sheets, to make ponds. All we need, is heavy machine to compact the soil. Zep Holzer explains ,how to do this in his Permaculture videos. Perfectly reliable.

      So you should chip in and buy them the machine to compact the soil. Maybe the soil is difficult to be compacted to be a good enough bottom of a pond. Maybe for this beautiful hard working couple is more appealing a plastic sheet rather than all that waste of energy, money and carbon emissions. We do not need it? Maybe YOU don't need it. I'm not seeing an incredible amount of natural compacted soil videos for a pond on your profile. Let people be without unnecessarily lecture them. Peace and prosper.

      I understand and appreciate your comments and yes in some cases that could work! Having acces to our pond is a bit difficult though for such heavy machinery. And is that even possible for the small scale that we are doing here? And it's not plastic at all, it's actually a rubber liner :)

    Thank you for the new video! I love seeing all the progress on your pond. I am sorry you had frost damage on your plant, it is disheartening to see the damage done to your hard work. I have 2 small water features in my backyard and add a product called Dunk. It is a bacteria that prevents mosquitoes from hatching. It is safe for fish and other animals. You might want to look into that type of product to add to your pond.

    • @Sooji_SSBM
      @Sooji_SSBM ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will attest to this user's claim that Mosquito Dunks work well and are based on a bacterium called Bti. It is the recommended method of mosquito control proposed by conservation hero and entomologist Doug Tallamy for still water near homes (so long as the water doesn't return to rivers/streams). I would recommend using something to that effect before your mosquitos get overwhelming and until your pond is established! Fish help but they can also require more maintenance if their waste causes algae blooms in your pond.
      Love your videos! Best of luck.
