    The PackTalk Edge headset is the next generation of Cardo Bluetooth units. Using second generation Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC) for improved intercom sound quality and easy pairing, the Edge can connect to a single rider up to one mile away, or connect to a group of riders over distances of up to five miles. JBL supplies the 40mm speakers, with waterproofing for the unit itself outside the helmet's shell. Other features include Cardo's simple Air Mount system, "hey Cardo" voice functionality, over-the-air updates, and additional fine-tuning via the Cardo app. The PackTalk Edge charges to full in two hours with up to 13 hours of talk time and 10 days of standby. Brandon takes the PackTalk Edge for a spin in this installment of Ride Tested.

    My riding buddy and I bought PackTalk Edges this year, an upgrade to our old PalkTalk Slims. The sound and magnetic mount are great and we are glad we upgraged. We also added a person to one of our rides who had a PalkTalk Slim. We were eventually able to add him to our group but it took a lot of retries with the order of adding PalkTalks to the group.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Since the Edges are running the new DMC 2.0 tech and the Slims are the older system - your riding buddy might need to update their firmware. There was an issue at launch bc the new tech and old tech didn't link up properly but that was fixed within the first month w/ a firmware update. We actually helped Cardo get this in the works to be fixed when we were out testing the units in Mojave for our Get On ADV Fest. Hope that helps!

    I am using Edge since June on my LS2 Valliant II helmet and I have to say it's great. I use voice commands most of the time. Only in very noisy environment, like on the highway with opened helmet, I have to use the buttons. Overall a great headset.

      @@JelloThatsMellow I can't compare these two helmets. This is my first LS2 helmet. I used a no name helmet before.
      Overall I am very happy with this helmet. I was able to make more than 13.000 km during this season and it served me very well. I have two negative little things: with winter gloves is difficult to close/open the upper vents, because of the flat surface of the vents buttons. With sommer gloves is all fine. Second: when riding in rain, I have to close the upper vents, otherwise the water will drop to the inside of the visor and I am back to the negative number one.

    They are now selling the Packtalk Bolds here in Canada for half the price of when they first came out to unload remaining units. Hell of a deal!! That’s more than half the price of an Edge.
    Good enough for me for almost the same functionality.

      Very true, the Bolds are great for the price. Although, Cardo has already stopped giving the Bolds feature updates like being able to communicate with Sena's in their latest unlimited brand-to-brand comms push. Since the Bolds are no longer part of their current line, they won't be getting any features from Cardo moving forward.

    Every Cardo I've ever owned has an annoying habit of disconnecting from the other rider. It sometimes hapens 10-20 times a ride. Nice review. Do you pair the Edge to your bike? If yes, which channel do you use? I own 6th gen Goldwing and I do hear some issues connecting to the bike. Goldwing users can't have Iphone BT on and the bike's same time. Its a conflict !!!! We use Apple carplay via a cord to the bike. However, the only way to have the Carplay working, the headset has to be on and connected.

    • @ritterkeks
      @ritterkeks 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Now I come from BMW land, so the situation might be different, but instead of trying to pair both the Bike and the iPhone to your motorcycle headset, the way you are actually supposed to do it is pair the iPhone to your bike first, then pair the headset only (!!!) to your bike. Remove any pairing between iPhone and headset! That way you will have control via the bike and audio / calls from your phone are just being passed through. BUT no idea how well that plays together with Carplay

    Hi did you noticed any difference between Edge and Bold when it comes to aerodynamics. Do any of those have different feel, like more noise that you hear with wind hitting the unit one or another? Do you feel pull to the side with higher speeds etc? No, it's not really something you would notice since the change is only mm's in difference from the Edge to the Bold. You might notice a bigger difference from the Slim to the Edge, but again it won't be too much considering all the other elements going on while you ride. Ride safe,

My concern is that I occasionally like to sing to my music, or even yell at cars (or even my riding buddies when they do dumb shit). I bought two yesterday. So far, Im disappointed as it is not intuitive. All I want to do is talk to my passenger and so far all the videos for help are about talking to other bikers, listening to music, radio blah blah blah. When you get the app, (required) you have to register = more of my personal information out there. After conecting with blue tooth you have to update the app, WHY? I just downloaded it. Then after the stress to get this all done and it still not working I gave up. It was late. In the end I did have some communication but it was delayed and spotty.

      "All I want to do is talk to my passenger and so far all the videos for help are about talking to other bikers.." --- doesn't that give you the exact information you need for your passenger? There is no passenger setting and other biker setting, just comms?
      And the app isn't required, all connections can go through the units by holding the comm button or the phone button on the Edge. If you don't want the app you can download firmware updates from their website directly and install them. That's the way I do it since I have to update multiple models for our video shoots routinely.
      Hopefully that helps, I've been running the Edge for nearly 2 years though without issues.

    All I’m saying is I had a sena 20s-01 for 180,000 miles since 2016 and it drowned in Yellowstone in the rain.
    My girl bought me a cardo like 2 months ago and the bottom button doesn’t work, it was always hard to turn off, it drops calls, it loses sentences when people are talking so you just don’t hear them say anything which definitely causes fights cause then “I’m not listening”
    When the bottom button broke it caused another fight because this cardo was a gift and “I must not be taking care of it”
    When I had a sena for literally one or two whole biker life times for some people.
    Currently on my helmet I run both the sena and cardo mounts at the same time. Don’t even get me started on how flimsy trash the cardo mount is. I run my 20s Evo when I can until I’m forced to use the “Tardo”.
