The gear door mod is pure genius
So glad it’s helpful!
Did you have to shorten the travel on the main doors? I can't get mine to close completely.
The hands that never sleep 😬. Nice mods and weathering Chris. That's a great idea for main gear.
AirHammer out!!
Haha, thanks man!
Appreciate your time spent. Thank you for sharing. Fantastic work!
Missed your review videos with tips Chris! Good to have you back :)
I absolutely love mine! I have the Huff as well. Im definitely gonna have to borrow your gear mod! That's one thing I knew wasn't scale to the real one I just didn't know what to do with the mains but your trick looks pretty easy and effective! I also separated my speed brakes on their own channel. Awesome work! And thanks for the good idea on the gear doors!
Thanks! So glad it’s helpful! 😊
Great mods on an awesome looking plane, sounds fantastic too!
Thanks Chris for posting this review with all the great RC nuggets! I absolutely love how this plane looks and flies out the box. I threw a camera on mine today and flew it as a warmup plane for my maiden viper 90 flight.(the viper setup was spot on thanks to your viper video😉) Strong work!. Now I can’t wait to try the sequencer feature on my NX and the F86 gear mod is perfect! Please don’t stop the foamy reviews they’re awesome!
Thank you! I plan to keep doing reviews as I am able based on the projects I have going.
Thanks for sharing the gear modifications, CW.
Im gonna have to come see the new runway!
Nice review man, Merry Christmas!
Great video Chris. I really enjoy your reviews! The enhancements you did with the gear doors and the weathering is super cool! Great flying demo too!!!
Beautiful job. Paint those white plastic clevises in the brake panels , You always knock it out of The park. Might as well go all the way. 😊
Thank you!
Same model is on my bench getting it ready for 1st flight. New Sub! Thanks for the nice video and mods.
Thanks for the sub! Good luck on the maiden! 😊
Glad you reviewed this. Got one sitting in my hanger waiting for good maiden weather. Appreciate the advice on it 👍🏾
Thanks! Good luck on the maiden!
Great video! I'm impressed by the fact that it flies like the real thing (so many otherwise fine scale models don't). I'll probably never own one of these (the runway at our field really isn't long or smooth enough for larger jets) but your videos provide much inspiration to take a little time "tuning up" the scale details on the foamies that have become our day-to-day fliers.
Thank you! You’ll find it doesn’t take much to really transform a model.
really nice additions and weathering ! Looks great; nice flight...
Thanks!
Killer review mang. Love the door mods
I havnt done air brush but the wash makes planes like the air tractor really come alive. Highlights and blends at the same time very neat effect.
Yeah, adds so much to the looks!
also had a model F86 as a kid and loved seeing them in movies back in the day, good job on this one Chris.
Thanks my friend!
Nice job all around, Chris! I'm waiting for the "Huff" version to come back in stock.
Super ! Gut gemacht!
I think I'll be getting one of these when spring rolls around. Thanks for all the tips!
I couldn't find the ESC you used in the notes below.
Ah, you’re right. I’ll add that to the description. I used a Spektrum avian 120amp esc.
Nice job Chris looks much better 😊. The Sabres just seen to Fly nice. 😅. Keep at it. 😊
Now that looks really awesome, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
Great work as always CHRIS 👊🏼👊🏼
Thanks man!
Your a dang rock star...love the simple mods you have done . I really need a 86 in the que. Kinda wish they did it a tad bigger for 90mm. But seems 80mm is all the rage these days.
It’s a pretty good size actually. About the size of the FW which is 90mm.
Great mod’s Geek !!! She fly’s Awesome 👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻🎄
Thanks!
Good job as always
Thanks!
The freewing version was my first edf. Still have it too
Very cool 👍
Merry Christmas to you Chris and happy holidays. I hope all the best for You. Oh yes, we have snow and freezing temperature here in Finland. But I have not seen Santa so far...
Thank you, merry Christmas to you also!
Great looking jet....it sounds good as well
It really does sound nice. It’s all that dirty airflow from the aux air grates the fan is getting. 😆
Awesome engineering on the gear doors
Thanks!
So creative
Nice job!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome video. Chris, did you set top a mix for the nose gear door? I did not notice you moving another switch to open and close the nose gear door.
I used the gear sequencer function in the radio. It allows you to set the timing of everything there and use the single retract switch.
Nice as always Such a pleasure to see a jet flown as a jet Not a 3d plane .
I'm surprised they don't implement the thrust reversed in all jets or fast prop models .if it's just matter of capable ESC. The weather is awesome. I do it to all models . This F86 sounds amazing!
That main gear door mod is BRILLIANTLY SIMPLE!!!
Thanks man!
Great video when setting up the nose gear doors, what is the settings in the radio?
It’s all through the sequencer in the radio. I’ll look at doing a separate video about that. It’s pretty fiddly to get right, but all you’re doing is adjusting the timing of the door so that it opens and closes with the right timing.
Hey Chris, what gains did you use on the gyro
Can you note the exact avian esc I should order? I'm new to this, so I am very unclear about what to get and how to do it... I'll order what you suggest and go from there. How do you "program the gyro"? Great info btw.
If FMS would run a Canadian, "Golden Hawks" batch I would buy one for sure!
Awesome review and mods - simply outstanding!
What ESC with reverse thrust did you use?
Thanks
It’s avian 120amp I had laying around
Thanks
Beautiful airplane and presentation of that F 86. Nice job on the video
I can only dream of having a plane like this. This is out of my price range. I have to limit my purchases to planes that costs far less.
I definitely understand!
Love it super awsome.. i still have to master the F-16
This one definitely lands easier than the f16. 😊
It sure looks like it lands easier wow hmm f-16 has level 4 on tje box
I have the 80mm Freewing F-86. I did allot of the same things paint wise on the different metals. I changed the tail to the checks like yours though it wasnt 100 percet accurate to Captian Jolly's Jolly Roger. I painted over that big Jolly Roger on the mid fuselage, so in that respect it looks like the full scale reproduction that flies or flew at airshiws in recent years. I had issues with the flaps after a few rough landings. I even replaced the servos. Its a tension problem with the push rod and it doesnt keep the flap securely in place so it rolls in one direction kn full flaps. The CG was problematic to deal with. I was told that checking the CG on this inverted was incorrect . Expert at our club said that you have to put it on the mains on a gizmo he had for all that. I called him on the phone and sent pictures of my attenpts to go through all that but he didnt want to look at them apparently. Finally I found a short and helpful video. I loved my model.I got it for Christmas in 2017, even got a new set if wings eventually. It was going to to fly at this past year's show our club puts on, but developed aileron flutter. Tried to repair that for the next days show but it needs a whole new tail section because the servo got unplugged and I cant pull it out to re connect. I miss flying it. 😢A good friend shot a video of it on its last flight at least. Its on reels here on youtube. I really like the gear doors, speed brake and thrust reverser modifications yiu did. Mine had issues sliwing down too. Nicely done!
Great video! Very helpful. Do you think a 100 Amp Avian smart ESC will be ok with the stock motor and 5000 mah 100C spektrum pack?
Yeah, I think it should do the job.
Great video! Which would be the better first 80mm edf, this or the bae hawk 80mm? I currently fly 3 different 70mm edfs
Honestly, the hawk is really hard to beat as a flyer. Takes a bit more effort in assembly than this one, but it flies exceptional.
Great weathering! I ve the freewing one! F86 are a great plane to fly! Whats the flight time with your 6250 lipo?
I’m getting over 4 minutes pretty easily.
That is an exceptionally clever fix that you did on those gear doors- you must shred those IQ tests that have you identify what box an unfolded shape will make!
Brilliant mod on the main doors man, they should watch this and implement that from the factory, so low cost and easy to implement. Then ofc, they'll also owe u a bigger cut of each haha
lol, thanks!
Chris can you show or tell me how you hooked up the nose gear door to the receiver. Iam using a ar8020t rx. Thanks. Btw iam not using a nx radio i have the dx9. Radio setups are my downfall
Finally got it
Excellent Tips. Thank you. When you installed the Avian ESC did it slide in without issue or did you have to remove any foam to get it to fit?
Thanks! I had to remove the wood plate holding the stock esc and slide the avian through the fan hatch routing the wires forward. It was just ever so slightly to big to slide through the hatch back to the fan area unfortunately.
Thank you.
Chris what timing setting did you program on the avian esc for this model. As always, thank you in advance.
It’s set to whatever the default is
👍
Love the mods, now if the model is available again.
It’s showing on stock now 😊
@@Thercgeek I want The Huff, 😩
Hey would you ever consider doing a review on the dynam 1.3 stearman?
Honestly, I wasn’t aware dynam was still in business. I’ve reviewed a few dynam airplanes and while the price points seem good, the quality is sub par to all of the other foam arf manufacturers out there
@@Thercgeek so to my understanding dynam did have quality issues and some of it has gotten better never owned any of them just bought the stearman. But I personally am going to use a receiver and transmitter from an Eflight plane
@@Thercgeek they’re also still considered to not have quite as good finish to their paint and such.
What specific transceiver would you recommend? I followed your link... but several are available as options. I was thinking NX10.
The NX10 is a great choice! That's what I'm flying this one with.
There are so many variations of the NX10. Suggestions on which one? The plane is unavailable now. Can you explain what would be involved to add reverse thrust to this plane?T@@Thercgeek
What flight duration are you getting with the 6250 mah LiPo? Nice job on the weathering and Gear door mods!
I’m getting over 4 minutes with it in flight.
@@Thercgeek Thanks!
There are so many variations of the NX10. Suggestions on which one? The plane is unavailable now. Can you explain what would be involved to add reverse thrust to this plane?
There are only 2 variations of the nx10 that I’m aware of. There are other nx radios, but they have less channels. The base nx10 is perfectly fine (bit.ly/SptmNX10). The reversing esc requires pulling out the stock one and replacing it with the new one. The avian esc is a bit thicker, so I had to insert it through the fan hatch and hot glued it in place.
The nx10se as the all aluminum gimbels, they are amazing .500$ more than nx10 but will worth it
how do you compare it to the Freewing ?
You know, I haven’t flown the freewing, so I can’t really say.
did I see some extra weights in front of the battery ?
No, I didn’t add any ballast weight to this at all. The flight battery more than takes care of what’s needed for the cg. 😊
No center burner on this one?
Nah, it’s not scale. My 36mm inrunner centerburner fits though if you’re looking for one for it.
Question. Where is the nose gear door sequencer located?
Do you mean the kit provided one? It’s a small square bit of electronic in black heat shrink. Otherwise to cycle it scale like I did, I used the built in landing gear sequencer in the Spektrum radio.
@@Thercgeek Yes, I'm referring to the kit provided one. Is it tucked inside the wall of the F-86, along with a bundle of other wires? As it's not obvious where the nose gear door servo is plugged in?
Hey Chris - other than unplug the nose gear door and plug it straight into the receiver, could you disclose how you the radio, I have the NX10.
The radio has a built in gear sequencer. It’s difficult to explain here, so I should probably do a separate video on that. There are two options and you want to select the cycling option which will bring the door back closed each cycle. It takes some fiddling to sort the timing, so work it out with the retracts unplugged.
A separate video would be awesome, but I will give it a try, you’re the master in your craft. Thank you, Chris.
the flight time with a 6s 6200 was ?
About 4+ minutes
A great model even better than the out of the tin version Nice mods but personally don't like it, I love it
I can picture David Hasselhoff nose art and calling it "The Hoff" painted black as a KITT scheme or brightly colored for a Baywatch version.
You never hassle the Hoff! 😆
How much to repave the runway?
Honestly, I dont know. The field is part of a county park and my understanding is the county took care of it.
I have a question. I flew RC planes 30 years ago. I’m also a private pilot, but I know that doesn’t correspond to RC. With this plane be too much for my first airplane back into the sport?
Depending how proficient you were 30 years ago, it may be ok. Honestly though, I’d recommend something like the eflite 1.2m t-28 to knock the dust off. It’s a pretty hot performer on 4s and a great all around flyer.
I was very excited for this model when it was announced…but…is it just me or is the vertical stab cartoonishly large? Something about looks very off and I just can’t unsee it.
Maybe it’s a little big in chord overall, but doesn’t look super off to me.
Shouldn’t you test CG with gear stowed, not deployed?
No
I've heard this plane is very nose heavy. The cg should be aft of the main gears. If you set the cg as far back as possible with the gear swept back, the cg will be behind the mains with the gear down so it would sit on its tail.
@itzjoeylo4501 typically, no. You generally want to cg in the takeoff and landing configuration unless specifically stated otherwise.
@toolbaggers I’m not sure where you’re getting your info, but I don’t find the model nose heavy at all. I suppose it’s a matter of preference though. If you’re wanting to fly it like a 3d plane, then yeah, it would be tail heavy for that, but that’s not what it’s meant for.
Elevator flutter sorry on last comment not aileron
Video gut! Aber die Werbung nervt. Ohne Werbung unverschämt teuer.
Great job and review I really like this on its on my list down the road☺✈🛫🛬✈👍👍👍
Thanks! Rumor is these should be back in stock sometime after Christmas.
