There is nothing wrong with men crying especially when you are listening to the most phenomenal voice there ever was Karen Carpenter/ She not only touched your heart but your soul!! To this day, I still say WOW!! when I hear her voice
I could NOT have said that better. The woman knew how to melt a guy's heart with her voice. Even now, 50 years later, she still brings the tears to my eyes.
I'm going to agree with you guys! I have felt like I was in love with her from a very young age and now at 52 years old just hearing her again does make me weep like a jilted teenager lol
Many many MANY of her songs bring tears to my eyes, but there are some lyrics from a couple songs that will really make the tears run down my cheeks: *Desperado* "Don't your feet get cold in the wintertime, the sky won't snow and the sun won't shine. It's hard to tell the nighttime from the day...." And... *I Can't Make Music* "I'd like to wish you luck and hope that life will be with someone else - just like I thought it would be with me." Oh my gosh, the emotion in that song tears right through me.
Grew up in the 70's when the Carpenters were in their prime. Loved them. Karen was and still is my favorite singer and many times I have sat back with my headphone on and just listened, magical.
I grew up with the Carpenters...Karen's voice so often just made me cry with its beauty...I'll never forget the day she died, broke my heart...just like when John Lennon died. It's so wonderful to see a young person relish her voice the way I did (and do, even at 60)
I love your heart. I hope that, some day, you’ll be blessed with a daughter. You would tell her that she’s beautiful just the way she is. Thanks for being you. Stay kind.
When watching Karen’s videos, try not to dwell on the sadness of her story too much... Focus on how lucky we are that her performances were captured for us to watch almost 50 years later.
JBLethal, Your message is so pure, and so on target. Thank you for showing the love to KC, she was so BEAUTIFUL. I am 58 years old and grew up listening to the Carpenters as a kid. To say they're music was special was a fuckin UNDERSTATEMENT! When the Carpenters music played on the radio in the 60's and 70's we were blessed. When Close to You came on my heart melted, I LOVED that song. Never got tired of listening to it or any Carpenter music. Sad VERY sad Karen didn't live her full life. I am so grateful we have the music, videos and memories of her to share. Thank u for supporting her 👍
Ain't that the truth! I'm 52, and when I was a teenager most of us, myself included, would have almost chopped off a limb rather than admit to loving The Carpenters, and Karens beautiful voice. But I did, always, and from the very start...long before I ever knew who she was, as a little kid.
They were uncool because most of us identified ourselves as rockers. Behind the scenes we had to admit we were Carpenters fans. You have to figure, somehow they sold millions of records.
Go figure. When I was in grade school, I first heard the Carpenters, and instantly felt comforted by Karen's voice. By middle school, if you weren't into Led Zeppelin, you were square. My big likes at that time were the Carpenters & John Denver. Could not publicly admit that, though. Only if you had a seared conscience or no heart could you not be moved by Karen's voice.
I agree with you! Why do we have to be so hateful to one another over things we won't care about tomorrow. Especially about things we can't change about ourselves or others. When I got married my husband I danced to what is referred to as The Wedding Song. RIP Karen.
I can't tell you how much joy I get from watching you react to Karen's voice. I love how you feel so, so much just the way I do when I hear her. I grew up with the Carpenters music and I feel so privileged to have been there from the beginning. When I watch you experience the musical trance you get into hearing her I'd give anything to take you by the hand and bring you back with me to those perfect Carpenters days. : )
My idol growing up. I was devastated when she died. I still have all my vinyl albums. A beautiful woman with a beautiful voice. I wish she could have seen herself through our eyes. 😢
Okay I am giving away my age here by saying that I was a young teenager in the 60s. I lived with all this great music and couldn’t get enough. I raised my two sons on my music and they love it. Even my granddaughter knows it from being with me. To me, I gave them all the greatest of gifts in real music not something made by machines. I remember when I first saw the Carpenters on TV. Karen was never fat but that’s the way she saw herself. Such a sad thing for a beautiful woman with a beautiful talent. ❤️🎵
No-One ever seems to mention one of Karen's most beautiful songs "Only Yesterday"...one of the lines near the beginning of the song goes" Nobody knew the Pain I was goin' through" and it always saddens me to know what she was going through at that time...So glad that her voice is still with us.
I love your reaction channel the best because you get it. You appreciation the Carpenters for the same reasons we did back then. Karen's voice was just simply amazing. There is another artist from the 60's and70's that she became very good friends with even though there was an age gap and it was English sensation Petula Clark. I think you would like Petula's voice also. Listen to Downtown, It;'s the Sign of the Times, I know a Place , and Don't Sleep in The Subway. They have some live video performances of her available. Thank you for getting it .
Karen looked PERFECT here at this weight.Really sad she felt controlled by so many, including family members. You HAVE to listen to "Goodbye To Love". One of the best Carpenters songs.
She was actually suffering from the effects of anorexia by this point. So even if she looked "good", she wasn't healthy. She had very large hip bones, child-bearing hips, that she hated, ironically as Karen was known to desperately want children, many even. So even at her thinnest she had a noticeably wide bottom. Sadly, part of the reason her brief marriage failed was because her husband had a vasectomy previously and didn't disclose it to her until just days before the marriage which would have been a deal breaker to begin with if she had known well ahead of time. Is there even a "best" Carpenters song? Do agree that "Goodbye To Love" is absolutely excellent. Probably the only "hard rocking" Carpenters song. "I Need To Be In Love" is also excellent; i believe this was Karen's favorite Carpenters song. "You're The One" is also very beautifully sung by Karen. Definitely made for weddings. I do like her version of "A Song For You" although Donny Hathaway's excellent cover is more famous. And i could go on and on and on...
I would respectfully disagree about her weight. I think she's showing the signs here. She needs a bit more weight but that's just an old guy's opinion. If she stayed at "this" weight, she may have been okay. The magnitude of her dying is even more heavy today than back then to me. So sad. Never even heard of anorexia back then.
Karen reminds me a lot of Princess Diana! Neither of them really knew how much they were loved while they were alive. After the worldwide outpouring of grief, you say" I wish they could see all this, so they can understand"!
I think I thanked you in another video but I'll say it again. Thank you for bringing this to the attention of us, because listening to her is giving me goosebumps. I used to love them when I was a young girl..
When you mention today's artists, I imagine the trashy songs and performances like Miley's and compare it to Karen's. Her songs have meaning, her singing passion. A voice that no "star" today can compare with.
That sadness... that pain... it's there in her voice. It's what makes her voice resonate even more with all that emotion. Every time I listen to her sing, it chokes me up.
It’s so sad and unfortunate that Karen had a false image of herself brought on by others. She was beautiful with an angelic voice and soul. You gave insight on how cruel the world can be.
You are right. Linda Carpenter is one of the voices you only know once in a lifetime. I have never found another voice that could compare with. She is so unique. I'm sad we lost her. Thanks for chose this one. Everyone un the present should know this voice.
I love that you appreciate her music for what it was, angelic. I was a teenager in the years she was at her height. My best friend and I sang along with her every time we got together, like girls do. Karen Carpenter was pivotal in my teenage years teaching me to appreciate a great song. One that you can sing to, hear the words and be moved deeply. She was capable of all that. It grieves me she didn’t have the strength to tell the execs to piss off. She made them wealthy.
I like 'Top Of The World' and 'Sing.' Their version of The Marvelettes' -- 'Please Mr. Postman' is really nice, too. 'Only Yesterday' is also one of my favorites.
I'm a grown man and she can still make me cry!!! The voice is soooo beautiful and I am very sad she had to die so early!!! It broke my heart when she died...the only celebrity to do so!!!
I have to say I have watched about 10 of your reactions to the Carpenters in a row and it got to me with your reactions. And I've been listening to The Carpenters since they first came out. It almost allows me to travel back in time to the best decade of my life, the seventies. Keep up the good work; your reaction is truly a vicarious one as far as I'm concerned.
I love the Carpenters. I grew up on them. Karen had one of the greatest voices in pop music history. I still can't help but wonder what might have been... Love your reactions...keep it up!
I love The Carpenters! I have my own story about anorexia and other food and body dysphoria! I fight it every single day but I ended up with alot of health issues! Thank you for sharing this and addressing anorexia why she passed! It honestly needs to become more of a topic and not a taboo!! ❤
The beginning of the song first few notes amazing. Brings you right in. Such talent and such a gift. Richard knew how to pick songs that showcased her unique voice. No one like her. ❤️
From the 1972 album A SONG FOR YOU, a great choice. "Hurting Each Other" hit U.S. #2 that year. They had over 50 great songs. From the same album, I recommend "I Won't Last A Day Without You".
It's easy to fall in love with Karen Carpenter. Her voice alone was the most beautiful and haunting voice in the history of popular music. On top of that...those eyes of hers looked right into your soul...a genius talent. Maybe the saddest story in music if only because her disease was so misunderstood and diabolical at the time...even to this day still difficult to tame. God bless her...Thank you for your videos of her. You're words are welcome and heartfelt.
I never understood why Horse With No Name was a hit. I always thought it was the most boring song I had ever heard, especially in an era of such fabulous music.
@@andreaschmall5560 its repetitive and hypnotic, and perhaps not for everyone. I heard it in the radio as a teen, and walked to second hand electronics shop to buy my first stereos. Thats how I felt about it.
Honestly its really nice to see someone your age in an era of music like we have now that loves The Carpenters. They are the only group that i have bought every single LP record they made. I also have their cds. If perfection existed it would be them
I had forgotten this song until I saw your post. Excellent and couldnt agree more with your reaction. For info a current female artist called Rumer has been favourably compared to Karen Carpenter and she sings a great cover of 70s song called Love is the Answer. Check it out if you can. Its very uplifting...think its audio only on TH-cam well worth a listen to lift your spirits.
I'm 59 . I've had a crush on this Sweet Soul , Angel 👼 , probably 50 years now. 🎶 I'm " Hopelessly Devoted " 🎶Great Song from the 🎥 " Grease ". / Olivia Newton John. " Another Angel 👼.
From one fan to another I am so glad that the carpenters are still captivating audiences 50 years later, there music goes beyond time and space and it's all due to Richard and Karen's love for good music. I grew up listening to them back in the day and your right, Karen's enchanting voice still brings chills throughout my body too. If you ever get a chance I recommend that you listen to "crystal lullaby and road ode" back to back, there both two of my favorites "talk about chills" these two songs take a musician back from a child to an adult. I think it's somehow correlates to their life experiences.
Such a heartfelt observation. I've never known anyone that so eloquently summarized what so many of us fell/felt about Karen and her struggles. Thank you....
I so love to hear her sing. I could care less how she looks. She wasn't ugly but she always dressed very conservative showing almost no skin. It was never about her looks. Just the talent.
Could you please react to the Carpenters " Yesterday Once More " and also the Carpenters " A Song For You" and the Carpenters covering the Beatles hit song " Ticket to Ride ". And there is one more big hit by the Carpenters "Solitaire".
I was lucky enough to see them in concert in 1975. I'm still obsessed with her voice as well. Had the 8-tracks of all her albums and everything. Great talent.
I can’t believe how many times I’ve watched this video just to hear Karen sing Closer dear are we than the simple letters A and B are,,, all my life I could love only you. Just amazing..
But now you are taking the opportunity to share her beautiful music to many many more people. Even when you know the tragic story, her words her voice the songs give you peace and give you hope. They touch your own feelings. There is something in her voice that is angelic ....... gives you peace and hope and love. Thanks for spreading her music keep up the good work.
It is quite something to see people who have just now listened to her, hearing anew the beautiful voice, and feeling the loss of her work that *should* have been!
There is nothing wrong with men crying especially when you are listening to the most phenomenal voice there ever was Karen Carpenter/ She not only touched your heart but your soul!! To this day, I still say WOW!! when I hear her voice
Karen Carpenter voice can bring tears to many people... its something very unusual, unique.
Karen had such amazing harmonies and what a vocal rang. She is greatly missed, now a beautiful angel.

Judith Durham was close, but Karen is the best.
Sorry I must disagree with you. She has to be the greatest singer full stop.

Let's be honest; Karen can make us cry singing in Gibberish. It's not the words, it's the emotion in her voice and how that voice makes us feel.

I was lucky enough to see them in concert in 1975. I'm still obsessed with her voice as well. Had the 8-tracks of all her albums and everything. Great talent.
She had a voice like,no other. My suggestion would be to listen to For All We Know
One of my favorites by her!
Nobody in this Generation and even the next will fit Karen Carpenter shoes and the perfection of her music period 👍
Her voice is warm apple pie. Is it the greatest ever? Maybe not.. but sometimes it's exactly what you need.
There will never be anyone like the Carpenters. Listen to Goodbye to Love if you wanna cry. It gets me every time.
There will never be another pure, pitch perfect golden voice like Karen Carpenter.

They touch your own feelings. There is something in her voice that is angelic ....... gives you peace and hope and love. Thanks for spreading her music keep up the good work.
You should look up her drum solo! Awesome!
Like I said, before there was auto tune? There was Karen Carpenter
Awrsome in every way. Her vocals and your heartfelt respect. So many of us feel the same. Thanks.
You’ve got a sweet soul, that’s why you feel these artists feelings. Thank you.
It is quite something to see people who have just now listened to her, hearing anew the beautiful voice, and feeling the loss of her work that *should* have been!
