I am amazed that you did not yet know Laura Pausini. Ask a little, in addition to Italy, in Spain and throughout America who Laura Pausini is, or take a look at Wikipedia, to also see the awards she has won, especially in Latin America. Among other things, the first Italian female artist to win a Grammy Award in Los Angeles in the category of the best Latin Pop album of the year.
And she's well known in the majority of european countries; she's just not well known in the UK and northern Europe, for some weird reason (like they are afraid of languages they don't know, or something...).

Absolutely wonderful song, probably her best one (with "Sei solo tu" feat. Nek as well). What a pity that this live version isn't performed with drums. P.s, After the minute 4:11 until 5:19 we cannot hear the audio!
She won Sanremo at a rather young age with La Solitudine (The Loneliness, 1994), which is still one of her main successes worldwide. I am not a huge fan of her but I admit she has a velvety voice. I think the most beautiful song of Pausini is 'Invece no' (Instead not) but she reached N°1 in the American dance charts with 'Surrender' (2002).
Something happens to the audio in the middle, guys. I adore her voice too: very powerful, great range, a ringing clarity in certain registers and a warm, sweet sound in others, plus a very emotional delivery. She has the rare ability to sound young even as she ages.The title means between you and the sea. She's even more popular abroad, especially in the Spanish speaking world (Portuguese too), because she releases all her songs in Spanish versions. (If you speak Spanish there's dozens of wonderful songs to explore where you will immediately understand the lyrics.)She's so popular that she's won awards from the Spanish Grammy's in the U.S. When my daughter went to university she knocked on someone's door and asked "Are you listening to Laura Pausini"? He was, but in Spanish, not Italian. :) Perhaps Mr. Nielsen meant La Solitudine? It was one of her first if not first big hit.
