    Lately I've been obsessing over Mike Patton. His range in music is daunting. His work ethic is really inspiring. Man this guy is brilliant. Can wait to hear his new album.

    This made me happy. Mike Patton is arguably one of the most interesting cats working today. He's bright, fearless, and simply could not care less what anyone thinks about his career. It's refreshing to see passion like that, whatever form it takes.

      Absolutely. And I have always admired his "I dont create music for my fans, i create music for myself" attitude. Always aiming to be original and not afraid to push the boundries of the modern sound.

    We need more artists like Mike Patton in the music industry now. He is the only artist who strives for complete originality and does not copy and paste the same shit from the previous album over and over again for 10 years straight.

    Most people just don't get Mike Patton and he doesn't care if you do . That's part of his appeal . His voice is velvet with broken glass glued to it . No one can touch him as far as I'm concerned .

    I like a lot of RHCP songs, but you need to admit that during the 90's they were all a bunch of egocentric junkies. Their lifestyle killed Hillel and almost killed Frusciante, also they affected other people close to them, like River Phoenix. Mr Bungle was a fucked up band (in the good sense), but they weren't into heavy usage of drugs and didn't like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers-way of doing thing. Also, the europe shows helped to make the feud between the bands stronger.

      Mo Lester Well i bet 90% of "fanbois" here don't even know complete lyrics of atleast 10 patton songs. Musician fanbois here just want to brag that Mr. Patton is their inspiration in music to make them look as sophisticated as Mr. Patton. Or they want to be like the 90s bands "inspired by" patton. Ugh.. so much bandwagoning here..

    I like "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic" and oddly "One Hot Minute" better than all other Chilli Peppers' albums. Maybe it's because I love Dave Navarro as a guitarist, but I love Mike Patton WAY WAY WAY more. I love Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, his soundtracks, and I'm in awe of Fantomas. I mean how in the fucking hell can you go wrong with Mike Patton, Buzz Osborne, Trevor Dunn, and Dave fucking Lombardo? MIKE PATTON = ROCK GOD!!!!
    P.S. I'm missing some of his projects. Hard to keep up with them. I love all of them.

    There is a similarity, I have to admit, but what interest would Patton have in ripping off anyone? He was already established, very different from Kiedis. And never short of ideas. Kiedis was awefully sure of his theory.

    • @purplerico
      @purplerico 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's contextual...Faith No More got big in an effort by the label to cash in on the sound the Chilis had paved the way for...Mike had just joined the group, and if your first exposure was the "Epic" video, it's easy to get the impression that they were a commercial rip-off of the Peppers, especially looking at Mike Patton...even they're actually pretty different bands musically

  • @ANCUTTER
    @ANCUTTER 9 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    It's funny, from what I've seen in interviews, videos, magazines on the subject of the feud. It always seemed Patton just wanted to bury the hatchet and be cool with the RHCP. Even after the first lash out from Kiedis, Patton never retaliated. He even said to interviewers that he still thinks he is cool with RHCP and it was overblown. It was only years later after being kicked from concerts, did he finally get mad enough to do something about it. His last time ever discussing the feud. He said its old shit, and if he ever sees Kiedis he would hope they could just shake hands and have a laugh about whole thing.

    • @ANCUTTER
      @ANCUTTER 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup! They both were trying to be unique, but beside the theatrics, probably the rap bits, and even the fan base. They were still were very different in lyric context and overall instrumentals. Btw to be fair Patton is bit conceded himself. (Tried to come up with a better term) Regardless Patton comes out the better man in this situation.

Although, I think Bungle was doing the chilli pepper spoof for a few shows by then. Doesn't matter. They didn't do it for the whole show, and even when the band was taking intermission, Patton was still doing his solo keyboard & voice thing... I ran up as they were clearing people out after the show, to shake Trey Spruance's hand(Bungle's guitarist/songwriter, also of secret chiefs 3), all painted up for Halloween. Have you read any musical history? Kurt Cobain was heavily influenced by the Pixies and some of the early punk scene like Iggy but Queen was definitely not a main influence.

    What an absolute giant. I am so proud that my ear heard well and made me a fan of his music (Mr. Bungle, California) even without knowing who he is, him turning out to be such a star. His feud with Kiedis (or rather Kiedis' feud with him)? All the more power to him hahaha

    I gotta say when Faith No More's "Epic" came out I to thought that they were a total RHCP ripoff. However, over the years, my respect for Patton has grown with his other projects.

    Mike Patton is a true artist, his mouth and ideas always come from hip shots, but that doesn’t mean he is wrong, he just knows music and anyone who dares tread into that realm, is his toys. When I say someone knows music and is an artist, I am saying they can compose a song from scratch, not copy and paste a song, which is what most if not 98% of people who call themselves musicians do.
    Anyone can make a song. Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus repeat verse one with minute changes, chorus. Standard arrangment - doesn’t take a stretch of ability.
    Patton will swim against the current and not just flip that around but gut it, and shove different parts together that should t work, and then weave something over that, you know experiment. He won’t be writing any simple to digest pop songs anytime soon, lol

  • @KayleeCee

    I've always thought that RHCP was the most boring, same sounding band out there. By same sounding I mean that almost every song and every album of theirs sounds the same. And Keidis is just plain not interesting to watch on stage or in videos. Meanwhile Patton has a whole slew of unique projects and he just oozes talent and charisma.

    • @TheBenevolentDictatorship
      @TheBenevolentDictatorship 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mostly agree, save that AK is a pretty charismatic guy. Patton is next level but he’s also a total dick, but in the defiant way which most people adore. I find him like-able and punch-able. Not sure more of which...

    Patton is an incredibly versatile, creative, ambitious singer who puts artistry before commerce. Most the bands he mocks were commercially successful but essentially were hacks (or totally grotesque and deserving of it, like GNR)

I like RHCP, but I judge the greatness of a band based on how long I can listen to their music on a roadtrip and everything MP has done with Faith No More, Mr. Bungle and Dillinger Escape Plan are all songs I CANNOT skip a track to.
