Awesome! Phase 1 moving along with professional development and progress! Love 3013 and 3010, they sound excellent! Great update sir, can't wait for the next operations video! - Gary
A SD40t-2 awesome....I worked for CCP-IC for 21 years...now I'm a owner op truck driver....I collected 21 of these I gotta strip redetail and paint ...now I need some C30-7s, just got my first Broadway...and more decals coming from Brasil...started some GT22cums.
Gadson yard is looking great, Tim! Always know it's going to be a good video when it starts out with an SD40-2 and SD40T-2. And I agree the echo on the horn on 3013 sounds fantastic! I may have to take a look at the Loksound update. Would give me a chance to use the programmer that I haven't even pulled out of the box yet, lol. A million little projects. Thank you for taking us on a tour!
Admiring the smooth trackage flow in the yard, one little point caught my eye. In the second track from the front, it looks like there is a small kink between the first and second turnout. Noticeable in the ln the long shots. Very minor and no problem with loco and car tracking, but a little nudge with some spikes could make that disappear. Can't wait for the operating plan.
Thanks! It is just a design flaw from the turnouts. It is pretty much cosmetic as I haven’t had any issues. That being said, I can see weird joints on the prototype all day so it’s not out of the ordinary. I’ve tried to move it over some but to really fix it I would have to completely remove it and cut the webbing from the bottom of the turnout to allow it to curve. And that might actually create a derailment spot. For now. I’ll just have to live with it unless it starts creating problems.
Thanks for the update, Tim! I'm reusing a lot of my flex track from earlier layouts, and sometimes the only solution to a derail spot is a new section of track.
Thanks! Most of the track on the old layout was Micro Engineering code 83. The only places I had Atlas code 83 was the shop. I have reused a lot of the ME code 83 on the other parts of the layout but I just couldn’t make those shop tracks from the old layout work here. But I think what will end up on this one will be better and I can’t wait to finish it.
As good of work as you do, hoping you change your mind on ballasting the yard, your attention to detail is top notch and would excited to see what you did with a fully scenic/ballasted yard
Maybe at some point but for right now my goal is to get the yard connected to the upper level. Once the turnouts are powered I may go back and fully scenic the yard.
Thank you for posting these updates. Showing us what you are doing and how you are doing it allows us to feel that we are a part of the process. We appreciate being included.
Thanks! If you run DCC then the key is using a current keeper. Also, it helps if the turnouts are properly wired. Some additional feeders go a long way to prevent stalls.
Thanks for the update Tim. I am looking forward to my pre-ordered Walthers Modern Fuel Pad, arriving in the UK. I wondered if any USA Railroad Fuel-Pads were covered-over, i.e. with a 'Train-Shed' style Steel-frame & large Windows type Structure, that would shelter Operatives whilst Fuel, Sand & Water were being topped-up? I presume the Engine House on your Layout will always be removable for ease of access? Thank you for posting.
Thanks! The answer to your question is yes. There are many examples of covered areas over fuel pads. Most are made from the steel pre-fab buildings like my shop. But often they don’t have walls all the way down the sides. Only halfway. Older pads are generally out in the open. And yes, my shop building will be removable so I can clean the track.
They make great stuff. I have a video on how I do mine. I apply them to large styrene sheets with 3M adhesive spay. Then I use double-sided tape to mount them to the wall. This way they can be preserved. And it came in handy when we moved because I was able to save them for the new layout.
Like the use of code 70. Will Evans railcar have a shed for repairs attached to the shop or work in the open? Progress is looking great. I'm willing to bet I know the upcoming news, but I won't be the spoiler.
Tim great looking yard. I can see hours of activity there. I am in the process of creating my engine shop area. What are you using for the concrete pads?
Thanks! Time, money, reliable operation. But most of all, it’s a staging yard and not part of the rest of the layout. It’s just a working staging yard. ;)
A topic I'd like to see covered is locomotive/rolling stock numbering. I know it's mostly arbitrary for the prototype, but I'd be curious to know what the prototype (Norfolk Southern) does for this and what scheme you've come up with for the Seaboard Central and why. I'm planning a proto-freelance layout, and could use some inspiration there.
Perhaps i missed it in earlier videos, but how are you treating your switch frogs? Powered or unpowered? If Powered, how so? I use Frog Juicers on my frogs. So far, I've found them to be reliable and issue-free.
I’ve used frog juicers on the rest of the layout. They work great. But I don’t think I’ll have to here. I purposely added extra feeders and soldered joints where there is usually issues with stalls. So far it is working out great. No issues. I’ll keep everyone updated though. Stay tuned.
Did you tape off track before spraying that ballast flake paint. Can’t remember. I just rebuilt an old Industrial Yard with Peco Electrofrogs. Flat area, want Minimal Ballast look
Nope. I made a video on this technique a while back and I have an article coming out in an upcoming Model Railroader issue. The cork was sanded and painted with craft paint and then the whole thing was sprayed with textured paint. The track was laid afterwards.
OK Tim You have to explain to me how to swap ends. Is it a whole bunch of CV changes? Can you actually setup a consist with 2 addresses, one for each direction?
It works great if you have a back to back set of power with short hood out on both ends. With the ProtoThrottle it is easy. Just dial in the trailing unit first and set the forward light to dim. Then dial in the lead unit. You can control the short hood light to dim or bright on it while the trailing unit is still displaying dim.

The ex-BN SD40-2 is absolutely perfect for a short line. Great video!!
Thanks!

It's all coming together! Those engines sound great!
Thanks!
Love the way the yard looks.
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing your updates and I really like your realistic ops series. It gives me insight into how real railroads really works. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching! Stay tuned. A lot more of the op series are on the way.
really coming along nicely,,looking great !! thanks Tim.

Good to see an old SP tunnel motor find a new home!
Still earning her keep
Hi Tim! Great video! Love the yard!! Looking forward to seeing your further progress!!
Thanks Johnathan!

Thanks for commenting.
Looking great as always. Your layout is an inspiration and loved you on the PodCast. Keep it up.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Love seeing the progress on the yard. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching. Stay tuned. More to come.
The realistic ops series has been great. Thanks for taking the time to put them together.
Thanks for watching! I have a lot more planned. Stay tuned.

Another great update! I'm glad to see the paint-out units again. And once again you showed that track itself is a model and yours is fantastic.
Thanks! I appreciate it.

Thanks for watching! Glad to bring you along.
Nice update. I would love for my locomotives to run that good. They run okay and I'm happy with them. They just don't run very slow without stalling.
Thanks! If you run DCC then the key is using a current keeper. Also, it helps if the turnouts are properly wired. Some additional feeders go a long way to prevent stalls.
Your layout progress is coming along great. I love every detail you put in. Your love for railroading shows through to your layout!
Thanks! I appreciate it.
The Engine facility looks really good.
Thanks! It should look a lot better on the next update. Stay tuned.
Looking Good my friend!
Thanks!

I think I’ve decided to use the company you’ve talked about regarding backdrops. I like how they do things.

@@SeaboardCentral, that’s a great idea! Yeah I like how I can send dimensions and get the blended sections. I’m excited about it. Thanks!!
Enjoy your vacation 👍🏻
Thanks!
@SeaboardCentral well I'm an engineer for the bnsf so I know how much vacations are needed. It's also amazing how fast those weeks go by!
I like the Shoegazer intro music!!
Thanks!
THANK YOU DETAILED VIDEO
Thanks for watching!
Thanks!
Very beautiful
Thank you!

Thanks! Yes it will probably get some kind of shed. I am hoping to get a lot done during March and April.
Nice Update Video!
Thanks!
Another great video! -Ohiorailfan
Thank you!
Tim great looking yard. I can see hours of activity there. I am in the process of creating my engine shop area. What are you using for the concrete pads?
Thanks! I’ll use a combination of styrene and lightweight spackling.
Yard is looking great, look forward to future progress. Interesting that you don't intend to ballast, is that to save time or for better running?
Thanks! Time, money, reliable operation. But most of all, it’s a staging yard and not part of the rest of the layout. It’s just a working staging yard. ;)
@@SeaboardCentral I love the grundginess of yards, but I don't have to work in them..

I do plan on doing a series on the SC locomotive roster after the realistic op series.

Do you Solder most of the joints in the Yard?
Yes. I need to go back and airbrush the rails and those solder joints.
What sound file did you use
The SC 3010 has the original factory sound file and the SC 3013 has S0508.
