I remember the saga involving Raeesah Khan's lie in Parliament. WP leaders were grilled endlessly at Privileges Committee hearings on why they kept it a secret for MONTHS. In this article, it was revealed that PM Lee first knew about the relationship in 2020. So why did it come to light only 3 YEARS later? Should we, like in WP's case, set up set up a Privileges Committee to hear why PAP did not announce the affair when they knew about it and make Tan Chuan-jin resign right away? Personally, I've nothing against Tan. In fact, I thought he was one of the more promising leaders and wondered why PAP “sidelined” him by making him a Speaker years ago. Now we know why. Timeline check: 2020 No one won in this unfortunate situation. And I totally understand why PM wanted to give him a second, even third chance. Tan is only human and he is paying for his mistake dearly. The stain on his career, family and reputation is permanent, eradicating all the good he has done. Likewise, Ms Khan is only human too. I understand why she had to tell the lie in Parliament. She couldn't bring herself to say, "The police did not treat ME with sensitivity when I reported my rape." The lesson to be learnt here is in the Chinese saying, "得饶人处且饶人". Whenever one can forgive, just forgive. You never know when the day will come when you are the one eating the humble pie. So PAP, please be more magnanimous and compassionate when dealing with others’ failings. You just never know when tables will be turned.

He loves the country more than he loves himself. He and his wife can easily give up and live in luxury with their assets that could last a few generations, but he stayed on. I like the compassion part in which he spoke about the private and personal matters and protecting of innocent parties. Sometimes when there are gaps in the release of information like in the case of the Iswaran saga, it would be due to this. JBJ was hated by LKY, and DN's affair was embarrassing, but their children seemed to be doing very well in LKY-LHL government.
When Mr. Lee Kuan Yew died, I shed tears for him. That is how highly I think of him. I am a senior citizen and I have deep respects for him. I just hope that our present day MPs and ministers will follow in his foot steps and do what is right and important for Singapore.

Times have changed. Every generation has its own challenges. People are more educated now and also less forgiving. Life was simpler then. People were busy eking a living and improving the lives for themselves and their families. Politics is very much left to the leaders they elected. Palmer ( Punggol East SMC) like TCJ ( Marine Parade GRC ) was involved in an "inappropriate relationship" and yet Palmer's resignation was accepted immediately whilst TCJ was put aside since february 2023. Wouldn't the interest of the residents of a GRC be easier to be handled because they have 5 MPs in that GRC compared to one MP in Punggol SMC??

I was initially confused about this too. He's saying that Tan offered his resignation after being confronted in February, and that PM Lee accepted the resignation but told him to leave the party gradually (something about making sure residents are taken care of). He implies here that Tan continued with the extramarital relationship, and that PM Lee found out in July. That was when PM Lee told him to leave immediately.
I feel worried for SG if this generation of leaders are like that. Will our future leaders lead from the heart, with integrity, and high moral and ethical standards…? We need the quality/uphold the quality of the first gen of leaders.

LHL knew this relationship had been occurring since sometime after the 2020 GE but only followed-up in February of 2023. In this span of around 2.5 years they were spoken to and counseled...that's it? LHL said he did not know when it started. He claims that this is a serious matter that should not have happened, but from the scant timeline provided it seemed like he did not bother to follow-up for 2.5 years. There should be a hearing on his and PAP's handling of this case to establish the facts of the matter, similar to WP and their RK case, to determine if the party leaders involved took appropriate, adequate, and timely actions to fix the problem.
So if Nicole and Leon are found guilty too of "State" affairs 😂 Does that mean they should also be given the same timeline? Robert F Kennedy Jr should have a listen to PM Lee's press conference and seriously reconsider his recent comment in a recent TV interview where he was asked about the importance and relevance of integrity for an individual holding public office. His response was that there's a "public" integrity and a " private" integrity which should be seperate. That's absolute garbage, of course as it's either one has or does not have integrity which cannot be seperated. PM Lee is upholding the high standards expected in and for Singapore. Kudos.

So let's be realistic. Everything is relative. I'm not a Singaporean but having had the privilege of living and working 6+ years in Singapore , as well as experiencing life in many other countries both east and west, I can appreciate what Singapore has to offer in terms of the quality of life and the quality of its governance. Its not perfect but it comes pretty close. So, good on Singapore.

We should commend the PM for having made public this relationship between the PAP members deem inappropriate and rightly, for having reluctantly but necessarily accepted their resignations from the party and from the parliament despite the adverse repercussion expected of the public, especially the general election is to be held in the near future, that is by 2025. From why ministers need to rent from the government when they have their own bungalows, to why the bid rent is similar to guide rent, to why trees were felled, to why such extensive and expensive repair works before move-in, to why a minister could ask a subordinate for a list of vacant rental properties, to why no conflict of interest, to why no breach of ministerial code of conduct, to why a buddy was the best man for an independent review. I remember the saga involving Raeesah Khan's lie in Parliament. WP leaders were grilled endlessly at Privileges Committee hearings on why they kept it a secret for MONTHS.
In this article, it was revealed that PM Lee first knew about the relationship in 2020. So why did it come to light only 3 YEARS later? Should we, like in WP's case, set up set up a Privileges Committee to hear why PAP did not announce the affair when they knew about it and make Tan Chuan-jin resign right away?
Personally, I've nothing against Tan. In fact, I thought he was one of the more promising leaders and wondered why PAP “sidelined” him by making him a Speaker years ago. Now we know why. Timeline check: 2020
No one won in this unfortunate situation. And I totally understand why PM wanted to give him a second, even third chance. Tan is only human and he is paying for his mistake dearly. The stain on his career, family and reputation is permanent, eradicating all the good he has done.
Likewise, Ms Khan is only human too. I understand why she had to tell the lie in Parliament. She couldn't bring herself to say, "The police did not treat ME with sensitivity when I reported my rape."
The lesson to be learnt here is in the Chinese saying, "得饶人处且饶人". Whenever one can forgive, just forgive. You never know when the day will come when you are the one eating the humble pie.
So PAP, please be more magnanimous and compassionate when dealing with others’ failings. You just never know when tables will be turned.

I like the compassion part in which he spoke about the private and personal matters and protecting of innocent parties. Sometimes when there are gaps in the release of information like in the case of the Iswaran saga, it would be due to this. JBJ was hated by LKY, and DN's affair was embarrassing, but their children seemed to be doing very well in LKY-LHL government.

He's saying that Tan offered his resignation after being confronted in February, and that PM Lee accepted the resignation but told him to leave the party gradually (something about making sure residents are taken care of). He implies here that Tan continued with the extramarital relationship, and that PM Lee found out in July. That was when PM Lee told him to leave immediately.

In this span of around 2.5 years they were spoken to and counseled...that's it? LHL said he did not know when it started. He claims that this is a serious matter that should not have happened, but from the scant timeline provided it seemed like he did not bother to follow-up for 2.5 years. There should be a hearing on his and PAP's handling of this case to establish the facts of the matter, similar to WP and their RK case, to determine if the party leaders involved took appropriate, adequate, and timely actions to fix the problem.

Robert F Kennedy Jr should have a listen to PM Lee's press conference and seriously reconsider his recent comment in a recent TV interview where he was asked about the importance and relevance of integrity for an individual holding public office. His response was that there's a "public" integrity and a " private" integrity which should be seperate. That's absolute garbage, of course as it's either one has or does not have integrity which cannot be seperated. PM Lee is upholding the high standards expected in and for Singapore. Kudos.

So let's be realistic. Everything is relative. I'm not a Singaporean but having had the privilege of living and working 6+ years in Singapore , as well as experiencing life in many other countries both east and west, I can appreciate what Singapore has to offer in terms of the quality of life and the quality of its governance. Its not perfect but it comes pretty close. So, good on Singapore.

We should commend the PM for having made public this relationship between the PAP members deem inappropriate and rightly, for having reluctantly but necessarily accepted their resignations from the party and from the parliament despite the adverse repercussion expected of the public, especially the general election is to be held in the near future, that is by 2025. During LKY time, do you think this kind of incident would have happen? No because ministers are more competent & honoruable. They make sure whatever they do, no one can find fault to question any of their actions. They do things with honor. Now... look, we can say the current generation of ministers, they did not break any law but what they are doing, their results is just the bare minimum. They only live day to day, they serve as with the least results.
We need more ministers like Lawrence Wong, Pritam Singh, Masago that serve honorly.

This also applies to our parliament, we cannot take things for granted and just continuing electing ministers that are out-of-touch with reality. We really need ministers that work for the citizens instead of critizing populist.
