  • Clover was recently adopted by a wonderful family, but like with most dogs that have spent time in the shelter, she struggles with some behavioral issues. She struggles with fear, anxiety, and aggression at the vet.
In this video, Steph works her through some beginning stages of training.

Thanks for your ideas with helping fearful rescue dogs. I realize this happens in many dogs, not just rescues. You Rock!

I've only been watching your videos for a short time, but as a person with little to no experience with dogs, having to train and build confidence in myself and the two young K-9 bed bug beagles your videos are very helpful! Thank you!

Curious of your thoughts on the following: You mentioned Clover does her downs more readily on the bed and less readily on the bare floor. I had a very similar looking hound (lean and short hair). When I had her in training I was told I could have a mat to use on a bare floor when we would practice down and prolonged down. The reasoning was that possibly those natural bony prominences hitting the floor was too uncomfortable. Realizing in the real world it is not going to matter if it is vital the dog downs for safety reasons.

Love this and she is adorable (the dog!) I so love this way of training and I come from the old fashioned way of making a dog do something but I've seen the light. You're an awesome trainer. 😊🐾

When you mark her with “no”, is there a reason you choose to walk her away and bring her back even if she hears the cue and corrects her behavior?

"Yes" is your release word, "Good" is your "stay" word; what is your marker for right action?

“good” would be the market that says “ this is correct, you will get a reward, but stay.” “yes” means “that was correct, you are free, come get a rewards from me.”

My dog was a rescue who came from an abusive home. At first he would go on walks and was very calm on walks. He will not walk with a leash now and he acts like he’s getting hit with the leash and yelps the whole time. Do you have any advice on how to get him to be a good walker again and maybe ease his fear?

Does he take food a) when on leash? b) when yelping on leash?

Yes autopilot is not something you want - my collies are the best at that! 😊
