I love all the questions you asked in this video. I buy bags that make my heart smile. That could be a luxury bag that’s thousands or a contemporary bag that’s $100. I like what I like and what makes me happy. It’s my one luxury and what I do to treat myself. I think everyone has something and bags is my something. I don’t judge what other people do with their money cuz I work to earn mine and can do with it what I want. I do feel like I reach a point where I feel I have plenty and don’t think I want anymore. But that’s until I see something else I like. 😂
Thanks Liz! I’m pretty much the same once I eye a bag I love it’s gotta be mine somehow. 🤣 I am still going to wait a bit for discounts and maybe I don’t even want it anymore. 🤣Judging people is and should definitely be the last thing people do. Thank you for sharing and watching 🥰💕
I just love bags and I love every bag I own. They make me happy, make me smile, sometimes make me thrilled. I can watch a video where someone is showing a Chanel classic flap and love it, but I don’t think of buying it bc it’s way out of my price range (and I don’t even think about it). I don’t have consumerism and I’m not obsessed, I’m just in love.
TH-cam is escapism, and people like the luxury unboxing because it is not normal, but I started this to show people you can use the bags you have without having to get the next IT bag, yesterday's IT bag is still awesome
I’ve always enjoyed thrifting. The last several years I’ve bought more from eBay and other sites than actual thrift stores. I love a Dooney logo because I really love the brand. This is where “Dooney math” comes in. I think about how many Dooneys I can buy for the price of one Chanel. I decided to stop doing collection videos because I’m not buying as much now that I’m retired. I will only show one or two bags per video because I’m sure you all get sick of seeing the same bags. I see YT as more of a social outlet so I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts. Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💛
Hi Suz! Love second hand and thrifting glad I’m not alone. Love Dooney math! 🤣 You are so right I have slowed down my buying as well. I like seeing all your bags new or older. 🥰 Thank you for sharing and watching. 💕
I just Love my bags! Don't care if they have logos ! I have a few Coach my sister bought me and doonys I bought second hand! I have quite a few designer inspired, would never buy real too expensive. The most I've ever paid was 115.00. I just like certain looks .Everyone is entitled to like what they like.I don't spend money I don't have on bags. I'm just a bag lover.
Ditto for me it's a passion or love for the bags. I love the deals as well and I think it's good to know what you're willing to pay. You are right everyone is entitled to their opinion. Thank you for sharing and watching. 🥰
Hi Andrea, I can afford any designer bag but I refuse to spend my hard earned money on designer anything. Just a waste if you ask me. What is one trying to prove by carrying a designer bag? Does it make you feel better than others? I’m no better than anyone else. I feel like it’s kind of conceded of you ask me. Maybe I’m weird or too conservative??? I just can’t buy into designer luxury. I am good enough just the way I am. My purse limit is $300. 😂 I always look nice with my more ordinary things. I won’t change my stance. Loved this video and the thought behind it. ❤
Hi Marilyn! Yes thank you for sharing it’s your hard earned money and you choose how you spend it! 👏🏼 You are not weird and it’s reality. I like the purse limit. Mine typically is $200. I feel just as good with my cheaper bags as my expensive ones. Thank you for sharing and watching 🥰💕
Great questions Andrea, since starting my TH-cam channel and my collection semi-exploding, I've been asking myself a lot of the same things. 😂 There's no rationale to buying handbags so expensive or in these quantities, that's why I'm also trying to reel in. But like you, I'll probably always love handbags and frankly I tend to like the more expensive ones better, but only because I've thought so long and hard before buying them. 😅
Thanks Lo. We all gotta reel it in at times. We like what we like, but is there a point of to much? That’s what I ask myself. Yes now I really am going to put more thought into my purchases. Thank you for sharing and watching. 🥰💕
10-15 years ago, I did find myself thrifting. My education thru college circled around environmentalism. Also, being with very limited funds during my college years, thrifting was an economic and sustainable way to dress myself…as well as get some retail therapy. Seeing more people thrift now is actually amazing to me. It’s telling me that people are making fashion more circular. Some do it for budget reasons, for creativity/self expression, for sustainability…or all of the above. I know a lot of people are irked by the influx of thrifters because it was a space where they didn’t feel they needed to compete. It’s understandable. I am especially pleased to see the newer generation (Gen Z and Alpha) embrace thrifting as well. It gives me hope that they are mindful of the planet and perhaps even disrupting retail consumerism.
Yes! I was that broke college student as well. I have always thrifted, but usually it was for work clothes. Now it’s so much more than that. Thank you for sharing all your amazing points MJ! 🥰💕
I like buying handbags. I've liked them since I was a kid. I have bought into consumerism. And I will take that multi- color LV,THANK YOU MA'AM 😂 LOL. I need to get it together 🧐
Great topic Andrea, I feel there will always be a consumerism culture whether its bags or those Stanely cup water bottles that my daughter loves but I think is hideous 🤣 I have seen the difference in thrift stores with people snapping photos & comparing prices, that never used to happen, & the prices have gone way up. Most of my luxury bags were bought new in the 80's, 90's, 2000's so over 35 years but now I prefer buying the bags I missed out on that I really like. I wait for an awesome price though so it takes time🙂 I do enjoy watching other YT unboxings & to see the latest IT bag. Also the social aspect because I love bags🥰
Thank you Denise. Yeah you’re right there’s always going to be some form of consumerism whether it’s bags or whatever you like. Thrifting is so different here. You have some gems in your collection for sure! I feel the same about why I wanted older bags because I also wanted them back in the day. 😀 Thanks for sharing and watching 🥰💕
Thank you for these great questions. Many of these questions I have been pondering myself about luxury and contemporary bags in my collection. I am a Missouri watcher, and it's great to hear what others from my area think!
You’re so welcome. Nice to meet a fellow Missourian! It’s great to reevaluate and look and see what you’re using and not using. Thanks for sharing and watching 🥰💕
I just started going to Goodwill in June. Now Clothes mentor, I go there to sale my clothes. Once in a while I'll buy something. My daughter actually works at Goodwill.
Hi Deleen! Don’t get me started on Goodwill 🤣. We have an amazing Goodwill in the next town and not in my town (overpriced) and we always find some treasures. Thanks for sharing and watching. 🥰💕
I have always been a bag loving person, I love carrying them, the brand does not matter. As long as it meets my needs which is being practical, multi carry ways and not too heavy. Yes i am guilty of buying a bag or two that I have seen advertised on YT. My daughters and I are not fixated on logos at all. Covid years were terrible & most definitely high buy years! Plus life changing moments like going through grief increased my chances of emotional buying. Such a great topic, thank you for sharing. Always enjoy your content 😁❤️👜
Great video! So interesting. I think that it is a combination of love and consumerism. I do love a label when it comes to my bags. I have a few that dont have a brand and I like them as well. I also wear my contemporary bags more than my Lux bags. I will say that I am loving being able to get some of the bags that I missed out on when I was younger. Also, I have toiled on this topic with myself many times because I have a huge collection as well. I have to admit that I love them though!!
Thank you. 🙂 Yes I love them too, but why and at what price. So far I feel like that’s a lot of people buying stuff now that was popular back in the day. Thank you for watching and sharing. 🥰💕
I think that people talk so much more about personal finance openly now resulting in the younger generation that is so much more financially educated now, compared to us gen xyz❤ they are also more mindful about sustaining the planet 😊
That’s a really good point! I really think the young ones like uniqueness and individuality not labels. Maybe there’s hope for us all. Bags have and always will be my kryptonite. 💕 Labels or no labels. Thanks for sharing and watching Dani 🥰 I haven’t forgot your tag just been slow to filming. 🤣
Another comment. I have decided I cannot buy another bag until I sell one. Lets see if that works. lol I will always find a bag I like and want so I gotta work this out. lol
oh yeah! ive been talking about this on my channel as well! YOu worded it well, I dont want to be a part of HUGE consumerism. I did grow up thrifting sometimes bc it was cheaper and sometimes bc its what the style was - and I have ALWAYS enjoyed thrifting. Since I have gone to mostly Rough & Tumble bags I dont see them out in the wild like I used to see LV everywhere! I may do a response video to this in another week or so! Love it Andrea!

@@AKBBags yeah its just a good topic to have more conversations around! Thrifting isn't the same that it used to be (especially the prices) BUT I do like finding that better price for something I was seeing online for quadruple or more the price!
This is a great video. #1. I was lying in bed thinking last night (because I had just bought another handbag) thinking, ok, Marsha, if you are going to buy any more bags u need to sell some. I have many I don't carry at all! Now, I have a LV Speedy Rep that I have had for 16 or more years and I have watched many youtubers complain about their LV is coming apart, the threading is horrible, My 16 yr old speedy rep is still in tack and NOT at all falling apart. It is in my opinion and my opinion only, I buy the LV reps because they are better made, they are a LOT more cheaper. I buy the LV bags because I have been obsessed with that brand since way back when my babies were small. Its my criptonite but its also my choice to buy rep. Now, I have bought many many bags from temu and that one croc pink bag i bought from temu I have more compliments on it than I ever have any other bag, including my designer bags I've had and sold over the years. As u know I always say on my channel No same in my game. I read an article once on the rich women of new york city who were asked why they bought replica bags (H. bags and C.) when they can afford the real ones. and they said that's why we are rich, we know how to spend our money lol. I don't buy my bags just to share on yt Iam obsessed with handbags....clearly! lol but i do see a problem and I'm going to start selling some of my not used bags on my poshmark, You hit the nail on the head when u said we ALL fall into that influencer hole and buy buy buy. I don't thrift because well, bad experiences here in my State they are crap and sell crap! lol My subbies love to watch handbag videos but they get just as much excitement when I just do a wimb or show what bag I'm carrying when Iam out doing my vlogs. Iam on the same page tho girly, and agree how much is too much?!!! tfs your thoughts on this. I am one hundred percent in agreement!! However, there are some bags designer and fake that I will never get rid of. lol Im sure you can concur. Sorry for the long drawn out comment.
Thanks Marsha! Such great points. We all go crazy handbag ladies and sometimes it’s too much. Agreed I have gotten lots of compliments on a Temu bag. Thank you for sharing and watching 🥰💕
This is a fantastic topic and discussion. My response may come in several parts 😊 I think the “quiet luxury” trend/movement veered people from consuming and advertising luxury logo products as some kind of defiance towards labels and luxury fashion houses themselves ALL WHILE supporting the industry. While I’ve always loved quiet luxury, I feel like those who enjoy the logo patterns shouldn’t feel shame or that they’re out of trend. The stigma that people wear it as a status symbol can be harmful…because if you love the bag, you love the bag!!! It’s not about status. Sometimes it about aesthetic, functionality….whatever makes you feel special.
I my like the style of dupe but the eye googling for me comes from the heart. I want color, durability, style, and durability. That comes with a price. Im also broke so thank you coach 😂. As for the youtubers that disappeared, I just think work is work and when it stopped being fun or profitable they moved on. Personally I stopped carrying diaper bags and started collecting. 😂
Interesting video Andrea, food for thought! I am definitely a LOGO HO! haha I love logo's! I admit it. I don't feel pressure, I just do it because I love bags and especially Louis Vuitton. I wish I didn't, trust me!
Thanks Yota! I know you love logos too! I do too! But I also love my hand painted bag from you! 😉Most of us do it because we love bags, but sometimes it gets overwhelming. LV new is priced so high for me and my budget, but I love getting vintage pieces. Thanks for sharing and watching 🥰💕
I feel like what younger people do is determined by several things. Where they live, socioeconomic status of their family, who they surround themselves with etc… that’s not saying it’s true 100% of the time, but often. The teenagers where I live, in my neighborhood go to private school. They not only wear Hermes, LV, Chanel etc. they also drive Teslas, Bimmers, Porsche etc. I do think a lot more younger people are into the “quiet luxury” more so than heavily logo’d out pieces. The average kids I do feel aren’t as into luxury bc they may lack access to it, or lack the ability to fund the purchases so they just don’t consider it. I do think being an individual is way more acceptable and even praised amongst the younger generations, which is such a great thing. I went from only buying Hermes, Loewe and Gucci to now mostly only buying small brands or contemporary brands. After watching Tanner Leathersteins content my opinions on luxury have significantly shifted.
@@SaabGuy-mq3cw Tremendously, great points! Thank you for stopping by and sharing your valued opinion! Tanner Leatherstien opened up a lot of eyes I think. TFW 🥰💕
It’s TRUE that living in capitalism, where advertisement is everywhere, there is subliminal messaging revolving around self worth that leads to buying the product…this especially was rampant in the 1980’s when malls grew in popularity. So you cannot blame our generation (I’m a 90s baby born in the 80s) for our spending habits in that regard. A lot of it has to do with general societal acceptance, how you spend your money, and self expression. The fact that you are re evaluating your habits can be eye opening. It’s not to say you won’t ever buy a bag again, but it can offer more self discovery. Being on TH-cam as a creator revolving around handbags, the connection with your viewership and yourself can be intertwined. Personally I think you love the bags because you are a tried and true handbag lover and enthusiast. You are also very creative and you might discover a little something more that can contribute to continuing your channel!
More great points. I loved the mall! 😃 They do shove it down our throats a lot and putting out new stuff constantly. It definitely is eye opening to reevaluate my collection. I love to be creative and that’s something I enjoy. 😃
I am 60 and have loved bags for about 30 years. I have no desire to buy luxury. I love Coach...I love the styles and leather. I keep my collection 25-30. Generally, I prefer no "signature" C's. Im in Midwest and no luxury brands around me . ( no Coach even). I only buy what I like and don't feel I buy because of hype. I know what styles work for me but it took time to figure it out. We take a big Europe trip every year and a US trip and have a very busy social calendar which can get pricey. I like to spend no more than 500 for a bag and I think about each purchase. I'm sure with age , I've become smarter.
You have your concrete prices, styles, and budget love it! Those trips have memories, so I don't blame you not giving in to hype. Thank you for sharing and very wise choices.
Loved discussing this with you before you did the video. Yes, I am guilty as charged. I have almost 100 pairs of shoes in our house, and I even have multiple colors of the same shoe. Great points and comments all around! *XOXO* ❤

@ I am sooo so happy you love your custom bag Andrea!! That just made my night and warms my heart!!!♥️
Yes, you’re a babe! Girlfriend, you are adorable. Love 💕
☺️ You are sweet. Thank you. Thanks for stopping by 🥰💕
Fantastic ❤
Thank you Jolee 🥰
TFW 🥰💕
@@SaabGuy-mq3cw My daughter like you said wants to be herself unique in her own way and style. Love it!
Consumerism did ramp up for a lot of people.
For sure! TFW ☺️
You are a babe! 🎉
☺️ Your sweet Katie 🥰
*XOXO* ❤
Thanks babe for all the help! Yeah we both have splurged a bit! 🤣 xoxoxo ❤️
I question myself this all the time! Glad you brought it up! I feel like it's consumerism, quality is definitely going down and yet we are still buying! 🤦♀️🫣
These very questions have been stopping me from impulse buying lately tho. 😊💪
Yay I’m not alone! 🥰 It’s good to reevaluate priorities and collection and life. I really take time before a purchase now more than ever. I still love them dang ole bags though. 🤣😃 Thanks for sharing and watching Kim 🥰💕
@AKBBags yes definitely! & i know me too I'm waiting for one in the mail right now! Haha 🤣
@@lavidawithkim 😱 I can’t wait to see what you got! 😀
