Caleb, love your channel! Honestly, I do think Coach is still darn good. I have bought them for years, moved onto higher priced luxury and still purchase Coach bags. Occasionally with all brands, I have walked into a boutique wanting to see a specific bag, was not very impressed and eventually did buy the bag. Sometimes I wonder if our expectations could be high?
I saw an article from High Snobriety which touted the larger Caryall sizes as an affordable Birkin-like bag. Like you, I like a capacious bag, which is what interested me. The larger ones are attractive, but I appreciate your opinions about the quality. I want a bag that will last a long time and not lose its shape from daily use.
Hi , I so agree agree with your comment on declining quality. Long long time fan here, and I personally stopped buying Coach because of the cheap leather used. Its thin, thin !! Secondly I was upset to learn they used fabric designed as suede on interior in some of their products (why not allow suede of the material they use-oh that right better to hide their cheap leather) and today you look at the suede interior and it’s painted 😮 I get drapey effect look, love it, however Coach has I feel resigned the brand for cheap profit over long term quality. Similar to what you see in clothes-polyester, nylon usage over cotton and wool. Back to Coach subject, I discovered Mulberry -thick leather, suede interiors, and great design, yeah you pay , you also receive quality.
Gen X’er here. I have about 20 Coach bags from 80-90’s. There is nothing that beats them. I was always hoping as their Gen X clients aged they would bring back a (now) luxury line that is exactly those (formerly) made in USA old time thick leather bags. As fashion cycles swing and quiet luxury came out I was reallllly hoping they would do it again because I think there are a subset of us who would pay super top Coach dollar for their decades ago quality now. My vintage pieces are absolutely killing it. Blacks, British tans, forest greens, reds, they all slay nowadays. Still.
Fellow Gen X'er. I've noticed that the quality of all fashion has seriously plummeted over the last 25 years. It all looks and feels like low-range mall chain merchandise from the 80's.
I actually disagree on your take on Brooklyn and empire carryall. Especially for empire carryall 48, 1600 price tag for that size and hand brushed leather to create the worn and soggy style is definitely worth it when comparinh to other designer brands for the similar style ( 4k above).
I think the $1600 is only for the 48 burnished honey colour which they made very limited quantities of. This was mentioned in one of the TIkToks I saw. Only less 10 was made I believe. While other colours should retail about $800+
I have the Margaux and I have to say it’s so frustrating when people compare it to the Birkin. Why can’t it just be the Margaux? And why diss the Margaux because it doesn’t “add up” to the Birkin? It doesn’t have to be one or the other, both can be great bags.
Hey Melissa! I definitely wasn't dissing the Margaux, it's a stunning bag! I was rolling my eyes at the whole "next Birkin" conversation everyone was having earlier this year.
Strongly disagree with your takes here. Chanel and Louis Vuitton are producing bags that the handles fall off of and yet, somehow, folks still dish out 9k and more. With the price of everything going up, I think the bags are priced and well produced. The Brooklyn 39 I saw in store was stunning. But that’s just me
I think COACH is doing a good job reproducing these bags that are affordable, not everyone can afford The Row and Hermes. By the way I just bought a simple tote from LL Bean and had my initials put on, getting a lot of compliments, I do have luxury items, but I’m not obsessed with them!
As someone who remembers coach leather from the late 90s to the early 2000s the coach bags of today don’t compare or compete. It’s a totally different products. For coach the prices have definitely crept up over the past few years and for contemporary they are over priced. Luxury or contemporary if it’s not good it’s just not good
I used to think Coach was “doing its thing” until I started collecting vintage pieces. The difference is clear and this isn’t even a Coach specific thing. Most brands are cutting corners now and won’t look good 25 years from now. I agree with your points here - I couldn’t really get into the new releases but I am interested in the new Dinky (in green) but would be great if I could find a vintage one.
Thanks for sharing! I’m just disappointed in the bags that have a center divider still. Just my opinion, but I prefer one large opening for my pouches. ☺️
So apparently only one of the Empire Carryall 48 colours is $1600 because that one is hand burnished or something. But other people have been reporting that the Empire 48 in Merlot is $895US. I have a 40 on the way to me and am I really excited! I've also been using a Brooklyn 39 as my work bag for the past 2-3 ish months or so (I got one of the Buy Now bags in Forest Green when they were limited), and it's help up amazingly well. It's deceptive in how much it can hold! Between those 2 bags, I take the opposite view from you - Coach did really, really well with these releases.
I agree with your take on the new collection. It seems so many manufacturers are skimping on quality to boost profits. I don't like the huge slouchy bags with no zip for security. I haven't bought Coach bags for a long time, maybe since 2005? My old ones, 80s to early 2000s are beautiful and very high quality. I've recently noticed the resurgence of the brand, but haven't found anything I really like so far. I can't stand the Tabby in any iteration. That closure is way too phallic for me. Yeah, I said it.
Thank you, Dianne! I agree- the skimping on quality is out of control. It sounds like you have a great Coach collection already with the best years represented. Hahaha, and the more I think about it- the more I see that about the Tabby too! 🤣
I tried on the Brooklyn a few weeks ago and also thought it was way too thin...I like the look but it felt a little cheap. I haven't seen the Empire in person but I do like the style. You make some very good points about the interiors!
Thank you! Yeah, there were just little misses here and there with everything that just lead to the whole thing being a miss for me. Such a shame too, I was looking forward to it!
Me too. I was obsessed about it and finally tried it on, but I was disappointed. Instead, I bought the Coach Lori bag and you can definitely feel the quality.
I totally agree with your comments about the leather on the new coach bags. I examined them all and the leather quality does not compare to their vintage bags. But let’s face it Chanel and LV quality today is a joke also. Coming out with different tabby’s over and over and other styles too is no different than LV with their different Speedy’s and Neverfulls they have been doing the same thing a lot longer. Let’s face it where would Hermes be without their Birken and Kelly bags. They may be one of the few company’s where the quality has remained outstanding but as far as creativity they make the same bags in different sizes and types of leather and metal trim. But people want it so….
As with all things, to each is own. Some of us are downright tired of the Tabby, whether it’s puffy, inflated, or deflated 😂 and others of us like a flanker with a tweak here and there. I was interested in a longer (from top to bottom) version of the Tabby and the TS scratched that itch for me. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these.
I really wanted to love the Brooklyn, but I completely agree with everything you said-the execution just wasn’t there. That interior would drive me nuts! On the other hand, I’m loving the TST and can’t wait to see it age and get a little beat up for that rugged look 🤩 Great video Caleb!
I know- I was hoping the Brooklyn would be perfect, but like you said, the execution just wasn't there. 😩 And I agree, the TST would look perfect after a few years of wear! Thanks for watching!!
I appreciate your thoughts about the longevity. I really want to try this style and am never going to buy the Row Margaux, so I think I'm gonna go for the 40 and just see how it lasts.
I have been collecting vintage Coach for the last year and I have to agree with you on the quality. I have 2 Bleecker bags and a Legacy tote and they are really sturdy and have super nice linings.
I think you are spot on. I have returned the Brooklyn twice. Not crazy about the new Tabby Times Square or Carryalls. I am one of the folks that wish they would go back to the quality from the 80's and 90's. Thanks for the information.
Thank you! The Brooklyn really had my hopes up, but every time I go in to see one, it disappoints me. Hopefully Coach gets back to their roots of good quality.
Interesting perspectives. I enjoy Coach design as I own several including the Brooklyn bag and Tabby bags. I agree with your point of view when it comes to the material on the Brooklyn and the multiple iterations of the Tabby styles. Thanks for sharing! ❤
I love my Coach Amazon Green Lana Shoulder bag 🤍 for me it carries quite a lot. I love the shape, leather, and construction. Enough for me to consider purchasing a smaller bag, I was considering the Brooklyn, but I was curious if it was worth it.
I would like to know alternatives that you would recommend to these. I actually love the Time Square Tabby and while it may be reminiscent of an older deflated Chanel, I think the color and quality is there, as we all know Chanel prices are super inflated and the quality in my opinion is about on par with Coach as of late which says a lot for both brands. However, I'm with you on the Brooklyn line.....it honestly looks cheap to me whereas the TS Tabby looks more expensive for the price and quality. I'm honestly in love with the Empire 48 and while I understand your point about the leather thickness, if it was made with the glove tanned proprietary leather it would weigh as much as a toddler and everyone would be complaining about that. There are genuine concerns about quality vs price with all brands.....but if you have alternatives for reasonably priced and sized bags I think we would all tune in to that video!
Thank you for this and your opinion. I agree there is a rare item that impresses me from Coach these days which is just depressing. I remember wanting everything and in multiple colors for years, but the only thing peaking my interest was the Broome from an earlier release nothing from this season. I’m just not seeing the quality but that is also apparent in other brands as well.
Thank you, Nancy. I agree- Coach used to be my go-to brand, but lately it's just been disappointing and underwhelming. Hopefully they'll catch my interest again later down the road? I hope? haha
Agree 100%. I have two vintage Mulberry satchels and the leather is exquisite. It ages beautifully. I also look at the leather and try to envisage how it’s going to age. There is a lot of microfibre linings out there, which catch dust and dirt and bags look dirty after one use. I trust your review 100%.
Thank you so much!! And I agree- the older Mulberry bags had amazing leather! I'd love to get my hands on a well worn Bayswater in Oak- that would be awesome! And you're right about microfiber linings- not only do they produce microplastics, they get dirty so fast!
You bring up some very good points! I too, am not a fan of the interior of the Empire but that didn’t stop me from purchasing! I like the feel and thickness of the leather. To me, it’s buttery soft and substantial. I respectfully disagree regarding the Empire 40 not aging well. I think this natural full grain has the potential to do just that! The smaller sizes of this bag, being gloved tanned leather, with scratch to death. I do hope they make more bags in this natural full grain as I over Coach’s gloved tanned leather. Thanks for the review!
I totally agree about the tabby. So over it. I ordered Brooklyn 39 in spring, returned it. Thought same thing, not worth $500. If it was cheaper I’d probably keep it. Coach prices getting higher while quality goes down. So sad. I’ve been collecting since 2002. Still have my first bag. Bought and sold many over the years. Maybe one day they’ll bring back the originals. Full grain leather. Real brass hardware. Great video!
I have like 25 coat bags from the 90s and early 2000 and the quality on the Coach is remarkable better than what you’re reading about Chanel and Louis Vuitton who don’t use real gold anymore. I disagree with your review about the empire already for the coach, Madison Time Square., they’re beautiful bags and there are thousands of dollars cheaper than Louis Vuitton and Chanel
Hi Caleb! I absolutely agree with your take on the Brooklyn. I was at the Aurora outlet last weekend and popped into the Coach outlet. The Brooklyn 28 was right there when you walk in. I think it's a cute bag and the dark ruby color is lovely. But I did not care for the bag overall; the leather felt incredibly thin, the strap didn't sit right on my shoulder, 1 pocket inside, the inside, and the magnet closing. While the Brooklyn is structured, I do think this leather will pool/slouch over time - and that's fine for those that prefer that style. I just prefer my bags to be more structured and a bit heavier. Also, the design of the Brooklyn reminds me of the D&B Montecatini hobo bag (D&B Italia collection from ~2014). On another note, I got to talking to the SA, telling her I am more of a vintage Coach collector, but I do have the Bandit in my collection. She told me they discontinued the Bandit!!! She wasn't sure why. 😭 Side note: D&B please open up a location in Rosemont! 😅
I was just at the Aurora outlet today actually! I totally see your Brooklyn/Monecatini comparison. Dooney makes some fabulous bags, and I agree- they should move up to Rosemont. That would be a much quicker trip too, rather than going all the way down to Aurora! haha!
I enjoyed the empire’s leather in store but you brought up good points when we were looking at them. I agree 💯 that the quality for this price point is not matching. ❤
Congratulations 👏 on the Wedding anniversary 💍 I'm sure Caleb is taking you to the Bahamas or Jamaica if he's on a budget. May ten More years of bliss 🥳 be in place for you all 🌹.
You’re in good company Caleb and I’m here to support this video. The new drop isn’t a mic drop. Not impressed with the Times Square nor the Brooklyn or Empire. I think the buck stopped at the quilted tabby. Not excited. Great points you’ve made!!
Fall is also my favorite season 😊 I saw the empire in person and it’s just not my style. I think the Brooklyn is actually very nice. I will have to keep an eye on the interior that you mentioned. For what it is I think it’s a nice bag 🤎 I see your point about the tabby’s. I have various styles of tabby’s and I think I’m pretty happy with my current bags so I don’t plan on adding anymore for the time being.
I was really only looking at the Empire because of someone I saw on IG… don’t think it’s gonna be added to my collection at this time. Great video! Thanks for sharing 😊
I have the OG Tabby that was much bigger minus the top handle. I didn't like when they made them puffy. However, I do like the Times Square Tabby because of the beautiful fall colorway. But I'm going to wait awhile to see if it's worth the money.
I bought my first Coach bag in 1968 in High School. My last Coach bag when they left NYC. The quality of the leather is no longer appealing, nor is the interior. Everything went down hill when the bags were made for cheap labour in other countries. I still have my, now vintage, Coach bags, donated some to charity. Would I buy again? Yes, I just bought mini Rowan, red white and blue stripe, with a canvas strap. Only one I have seen. Usually, I stick with small Luxury bags, mini Totes.
When Stuart first revitalized the brand, I got one of the handpainted tea flower dinky bags and a custom rogue bag from their New York City flagship. The quality was so good! I also still have my tote bag from high school and similarly, the quality is amazing. I feel like Coach is starting to cheapen in their bags again, which is the old trap that they fell into… it’s tough these days so every brand is doing it!
They also made the empire in a size 28 sold by Dillards. I bought and love it. I agree on the lining. I would have much preferred a leather or cloth lining. I wish they would stop cheaping it up- but they are all doing it.
I got the regular quilted tabby 26 in navy bc I think it’s the perfect shade. I agree on the center divider being annoying, but I also got the largest Times Square tabby in black bc it does remind me of vintage Chanel but without the flashy logo and I know im going to enjoy how comfortable it is. I agree with your points on craftsmanship though
I completely agree with you on all points. When I touched the Brooklyn I was surprised by how flimsy it was and cheap it felt. The Empire is going to scratch really bad. If they had made it in a pebbled soft smooshier leather it would have been a contender for me - especially in a latte/chai color with that gold hardware.
I watched Autumn and Dawn’s unboxings, I do like the new quilting on the tabby, it does give vintage Chanel vibes. I absolutely love the shape of the empire and the burnished look in that Merlot is omg gorgeous. But you’ve seen these in person, that makes all the difference, quality is important spending money on handbags. LV quality and Chanel have gone down hill but prices keep going up, it’s sad.
A couple of months ago I bought a Coach Burough bag(bowling bag) in saddle. It is gloved tanned leather and leather lined. I paid $212. Last weekend I bought a Brooklyn 28 in dark stone for full price $295. I thought it was raw suede on the inside. When I got it home I saw different. It is bonded leather. A thin piece of leather bonded to a materal of some sort of backing. You are right it could peel and crumble just like my couch of the same material did. But that took a few years for that to happen and I just use my bags for a week at a time on my bag rotation. I like the bag for its lack of bling and it holds alot, unusual in the era of small bags. I am still glad I bought it. I live in California I don't see a lot of women carrying Tabbys. S. CA is full of over priced high end bags. Young women carry Chanel not Coach. But give me a good hobo any day. The price was right for what I got so I am happy
I agree !! The Brooklyn and the Empire bags look so thin and cheap 😞 Long gone are the days of 1941 leather , there is absolutely no comparison! The only one I purchased is the Times Square Tabby in the size 20 , and even that I’m 50/50 on; at least it has the jacquard lining - but I fully I agree with you , I’m underwhelmed by this collection , I was expecting more quality, and a bummer that the 26 TST only comes in Black , why didn’t they make it in all the colors ? 😢
Thank you, Millie! I miss the old days of good quality thick leather that ages well! I will say, I do appreciate the jacquard lining more than the microfiber, it's going to wear so much better.
Overall, I wasn’t as disappointed in the collection but I loved your review!! I’m really intrigued by the Brooklyn and almost went for it in ruby recently, but I’m still undecided. I’m really shocked by the quality issues you showed. It’s so disappointing because I always loved Coach quality. 😢
Hey Caleb, I agree totally to all of your statements. But my most urgent question is: Which model is the coach bag behind you? I can see it to the left of your shoulder, it's burgundy and has the print "Coach Leatherware"? I am absolutely obsessed and it for my collection. Please answer my question ❤
Hi Suzanne! That's the Coach Bleecker XL Tote from 2008. They're incredibly hard to find, but I have the Mahogany and Ink colorways. I'm seeking the Chambray blue and Sand to complete my collection!
I agree. I love the Tabby. I own 2 (the 26 and Pillow 18) but have no interest in adding the Times Square Tabby. The Merlot color is beautiful though for Fall. Thank you for sharing!
You made me go grab my tablet. I need the bag in the back ❤Brooklyn no & that waffle looking Tabby no, but the huge version of Empirecover all….YES. I want it
@@CalebSnell tokonole is a burnishing gum/glue. Usually it’s brushed on and the you take a piece of glass and rub it on the nap to lay it flat. I’m sure coach uses a more industrialized version of that (probably an industrial stamping machine) since they have to work on large quantities. I bought the Brooklyn and compared it to the leather items i make myself and it’s the same finish on the flesh side.
@@CalebSnell I feel like Coach doesn’t use the highest quality leathers sometimes so if they would have used the suede interior, the fibers would have gotten all over the place too.
Just grabbed the maple Brooklyn 23 for my birthday and it’s the perfect running around bag 🥰 fits my small essentials. For sure loved over the bigger ones.
Same dear, i have chanel and lv now but I couldn’t let go of my coach items from back then too… I was in high school when mom got me my firsts… so it’s quite nostalgic to puffy bags were not my thing… only got the Cassie bc I did not want to spend on the Métis monogram…
I called Coach and asked what kind of leather the Brooklyn bag is and it is goat. Just in case you wanted to know. I ordered it online but I have cancelled my order.
The Time Square Tabby looks like a deflated Madison Pillow. With those big apple, Statue of Liberty, yellow cab & Empire State Building charms, which by the way you can find from those I ❤ NY gift stores near Time Square, the TQ Tabby looks like a square pizza to me 😂
Totally agree on the Brooklyn I was just in coach yesterday the leather was so thin on the small one. I was shocked. Tabby def still in style tho. They were flying off the shelves yesterday. It’s really user friendly. The Ruby red is gorgeous
I completely agree with you on the lack of quality materials in the newer Coach bags. I think you’ll be proven right over time when we see how these bags wear over time in comparison to older Coach bags. Mind you I’m a former Coach employee and I loveeeee and collect Coach. Even the newer rogues I’m disappointed in the material selection. Not like the first several collections where leather was stitched over the side panels to bring the corners of the bag together. Now it’s all glazing?! Yikes. It’s sad bc customers would come into the store and I could tell who wasn’t well versed in leather quality. They only cared about the look and not the materials. In my opinion it all matters collectively. 🤷🏾♀️
I really wish I had jumped on the Rogue trend when they started making them because the first few seasons are such a higher quality than they are now. Such a shame.
I'm totally on board with all of this. I was bummed when I went in store and saw the actual pieces (which obtw also had different hues IRL vs. on the website). I wanted SO BADLY to love these.
I know! I was so excited to see the Empire IRL, and it was just kind of a let down. And you're right, the colors aren't as rich and vivid IRL vs website.
I just bought the Cedar Suede Brooklyn 39 and the interior is leather lined. I did take a look at the interior of the leather versions and I saw the weird flakey painted interior. I think they were trying to achieve the raw leather effect like the Hermes Evelyne but failed epically. The flaking on some were worse than others. I think that because the suede one is lined with leather, makes it worth the price. Coach should have lined all the Brooklyns with leather instead.
I’m totally with you! I have found several pieces very interesting in this fall line up. I ordered the Carryall 28 from Neiman Marcus and the leather was my precise gripe - the leather is just so so. I don’t think it will age like my vintage Coach pieces which is what I also brought up in my first impression video. Darn it for sure!
Okay - I need to be honest and fess up....I ended up seeing that the Carryall in the 40 size (and larger one as well) that came in the soft full grain leather. I caved! But, I'm glad I did because this one is just stunning! I hate when I have to eat my words, but here I am. I still maintain that I don't love the glovetanned leather versions, but this one is much better in the larger sizes in leather and look.
Well, i bought the Brooklyn 39, i haven't received it yet, and i am excited. I haven't bought a coach in a long time, so i will see how the quality has changed.
I totally agree! I’m definitely in the minority on the Brooklyn bag. I purchased it right after the runway show in denim blue and actually retuned it. It just didn’t wow me and I felt the construction was lacking and the leather is really thin. Where the strap joined the body, it constantly “folded in”. I can only imagine what it’s going to look like after ppl hang all the silly charms on them 🙄
Nothing worse than getting excited about a new bag only to return it when it arrives! Yeah, the construction quality and material just isn't there for me. Haha the charms will definitely do some damage on the poor Brooklyn!
I just got a Brooklyn because it is going to have a nice slouch over time but there's definitely a difference in leather quality from the bleecker that I have.
I agree late 90s early 2000s is when Coach started to go down the cheaper route. My goal was to get a Coach bag once I went off to university. That's the year all CC's totes were super popular, especially where I went to school. Wasn't my vibe. I did purchase a few wristlets over the years because I don't carry much, but it's not the Coach it was when I was a child a dreaming of the day when I finally get one of my own. I understand times have changed and they want to make a profit but that's what really set Coach apart back then. Now there just part of the group. 😞
I'm so glad you spoke on this topic I've been eyeing the Empire bag but very reluctant to pull the trigger and I couldn't quite put my finger on why that is. You have described the words that I was lacking as to why I'd rather put my $1600 dollars towards my goal bag Metier!
Thank you, Andrea! I went in wanting to fall in love with the Empire, but there were too many things about it that I just couldn't get over. Such a shame too!
I looked at the Brooklyn and thought it was aesthetically gorgeous, I didn’t think it was bad quality but I also didn’t think it was amazing, but gorgeous it is. I was not a fan of the Times Square Tabby, I just don’t like how it looks but that’s subjective. I am however in love with and getting the Empire 40, just haven’t decided the color yet.
It really is a gorgeous bag! I just wish it had been made better. The colors are going quickly online for the Empire, I hope you were able to make a decision!
Sooo disappointed to hear about the Brooklyn. I really like the way it looks. I had heard about the inside flaking and couldn’t understand because I thought the inside was just the other side of the hide. Now that you’ve explained it’s poorly painted lining, I get it now. Very disappointing.
i saw on a japanese blog some peaks of coach original releases for fall 2024… they are releasing another version of the safari tote and hamilton hobo’s (?). the Hamilton style hobo had bedazzled jacquard.
On the fence with the empire 40 -- $695 plus tax not big on the calf leather and the fabric lining for that amount of money. I have tons of vintage Coach back to 70's whole other ball game.
Caleb. Good review. There was a couple I thought was nice. But I don’t know about purchasing I see tabby’s everywhere. One thing on my bags I have to have a zipper close.
Great review. i actually purchased the Empire 26 in Brown last week and have used it every day. Usually, i despise the inner dividers, but this one has a larger base, and i find it easier to use than my soft tabby in amazon green with the huge C on it. I agree with you about the micro fiber inside. i would have preferred a leather interior. But i really enjoy this bag. It's easy to use and today i added a leopard twilly. I tried on that Brooklyn Hobo 24, and it definitely felt flimsy, and the chain strap is too light and looks cheap. The square quilted bag "time square"? It reminded me of a cassie 19-plus. im over the quilting, so i got my empire 26 instead and LOVE IT! 😊
Thank you!! That's good to hear that you're enjoying your Empire bag! And a leopard twilly is the perfect addition. Yeah, the Brooklyn I wanted to love, but just couldn't get into it. I hear a new Cassie is coming out in a mini size too! That might be fun to see!
Why oh why do they have to put that center pocket in the Tabbys??? It's a narrow bag to begin with and this makes it even harder to fit stuff in it! I love the open soft Tabby (I've got the denim one you have). Also I have a bunch of 90s Coach where the inside of the bags is the other side of the leather and the leather was luscious ❤ Unfortunately mine were in a closet they had a mildew problem 😥
I love my denim Tabby! And I'm really glad it doesn't have that goofy center pocket haha! I'm sorry to hear about your vintage Coach bags, that had to be heartbreaking!
Hey Marietta! The backpacks are awesome! I really like the designs they did for this season. Threadsandtheory on TikTok did an awesome review on the newest backpack!
The empire 40 and 48 are very different bags than the smaller sizes. They are “soft” empire, squishier and slouchier, due to being made of a different leather, having less structure and a different interior design. The smaller bags are glove tanned while the 40 is top grain. No center divider and less structured overall. I agree that the smaller sizes just look similar to past carryalls, the shape needed the dome to be higher imho. I don’t understand why the 35 was not also “soft”. I am relieved the inside is not leather as the 40 would’ve been too heavy for me otherwise (I got the black). The $1600 version I believe was hand distressed and treated like the runway versions. The regular 48 is not that price. I don’t care for the burnished look either, makes me think of oil stains.
I own the Empire 40 in Navy blue and the Times Square Tabby in Navy blue. I am in love with both of them. I agree the interior of the empire could have been nicer. Even a canvas would have been better. Still, the shape, the size, the price...and mostly, the navy blue color with the brass hardware...Love. Also, it has feet. I will never pay up for the Margeaux so for me, this is a great substitute. I would not have bought the Empire in any other color or size. And just a note, I do prefer the shape of the Times Square tabby versus the rectangle tabby. I own both but the Times Square sits nicely on the hip.
I love the Brooklyn 39. I love coach but haven't purchased in 2 years because nothing really impressed me. Not into the tabby phenomenon The Brooklyn however is chic and I've been enjoying it. Might add another color.
Materialinside and the length of the zipper is important to me. Zipper is too short if you waant to have it open like a tote. BUT finally a big one with a strap! The totes always become one shoulder and they keep the measurment but enlarge them making you fuzz around finding stuff. Too deep and too high. My perfect tote has not yet been made. Wipable inside is a must, too many good bags have been ruined because of the lining. Maybe if I take the scissers and cut of the zipper on this? I am about to do it on a Kate Spade tote.
So what our your thoughts on the new Coach bags? Do you agree with me or have a different opinion? Let me know 😁
Caleb, love your channel!
Hi Donna! Thank you! And you could have a good point with expectations!
I saw an article from High Snobriety which touted the larger Caryall sizes as an affordable Birkin-like bag. Like you, I like a capacious bag, which is what interested me. Back to Coach subject, I discovered Mulberry -thick leather, suede interiors, and great design, yeah you pay , you also receive quality.
I think it is fair to say that all of the brands we know and love Coach, LV, etc will never be vintage quality ever again.
Truth
💯
Gen X’er here. I have about 20 Coach bags from 80-90’s. There is nothing that beats them. I was always hoping as their Gen X clients aged they would bring back a (now) luxury line that is exactly those (formerly) made in USA old time thick leather bags. As fashion cycles swing and quiet luxury came out I was reallllly hoping they would do it again because I think there are a subset of us who would pay super top Coach dollar for their decades ago quality now. My vintage pieces are absolutely killing it. Blacks, British tans, forest greens, reds, they all slay nowadays. Still.
Right? I am pretty sure I will not be the last owner of my vintage Coaches. They will keep slaying long after I'm gone!
I would love it if they rereleased the older bags made at a higher quality. People would pay a pretty penny for those bags for sure!
Vintage Dooney Bourke are indestructible, probably my favorite
I just sold some older unused coach bags to a GenZ girl. :)
@@congluo480 I agree. I love it.
The carryall 48 was on the Coach website for $895 this morning.
The Row paid a lot of marketing dollars to be compared to the birkin!
@@DBrooks-i3w and we just rolled with it apparently. They aren’t anything alike
I say it’s better than a Birkin because I can buy them new without playing the game!
Hey Melissa! I definitely wasn't dissing the Margaux, it's a stunning bag! I was rolling my eyes at the whole "next Birkin" conversation everyone was having earlier this year.
@@CalebSnell I’m sure it’s a marketing ploy, I just don’t see how the two compare.
But that’s just me
Exactly, totally agree MrSincerity88!
Agree! The empire carryall is amazing
Exactly!! 💯
The empire Caryall 40 in the Merlot, is absolutely STUNNING! 🥰
Luxury or contemporary if it’s not good it’s just not good
Coach is still doing its thing . Quality leather great price points! Chanel has fallen off and prices have went way up .
It's crazy how out of whack luxury pricing is these days!
Totally agree, they keep putting so many dividers and it makes the bag smaller inside!!!
I love my pouches too, so I know how you feel!
Hate center dividers too
So apparently only one of the Empire Carryall 48 colours is $1600 because that one is hand burnished or something.
Oh! That's good to know about the prices!
Loving Coach more and more. I wouldn’t mind the navy tabby
They did have some great colors this season!
i was wishing they had done a burnished times square tabby 26 it would be super cool if it was two toned❤ i love the deflated quilts❤
Right!? It would be such a vibe!
Just found a vintage Coach 1970's bag in my mother's collection. Great condition. 😊
That's so cool! And it's even more special since it belonged to your mother!
Agreed
Me too. I was obsessed about it and finally tried it on, but I was disappointed. Instead, I bought the Coach Lori bag and you can definitely feel the quality.
@@martharodriguez3888 I was unfamiliar with the Lori, so googled it and it's awesome! Definitely looks higher quality!
All valid points!
Haha, you're so right! A taller Tabby would be nice!
Vintage Coach is top tier ❤
It really is!
Thank you for your honesty!!
Always!
Vintage coach lover here, and the leather on my bucket bag from 2001 is top tier! Just impeccable! ⭐️
Right?! The old stuff is so good!
It will be sad if they start to let quality slip😮😢@@CalebSnell
I appreciate your thoughts about the longevity. I really want to try this style and am never going to buy the Row Margaux, so I think I'm gonna go for the 40 and just see how it lasts.
Thank you, Jennifer!
I have been collecting vintage Coach for the last year and I have to agree with you on the quality. I have 2 Bleecker bags and a Legacy tote and they are really sturdy and have super nice linings.
I miss the Bleecker and Legacy eras- they were so good!
Thank you for watching!
I love my Coach Amazon Green Lana Shoulder bag 🤍 for me it carries quite a lot. I love the shape, leather, and construction. Enough for me to consider purchasing a smaller bag, I was considering the Brooklyn, but I was curious if it was worth it.
The Lana is a gorgeous bag! I wish they had made one big like the Brooklyn 39, I would have bought it in a heart beat!
An alternative video is a great idea! And you made some great points! I'll have to do some research and see what I can find out for alternatives!
Thank you! I agree- using a higher quality leather than the glove tanned leather for other bags would be a good move on Coach's part!
Yayyyy we can save some money another season 🥴or will we , we shall see 🤪
Hahaha! We just have to stay strong!
Yeah, I'd be more on board with the Brooklyn at like $398. It just doesn't feel that nice to me at it's current price point. Thank you!!
Side note: D&B please open up a location in Rosemont!
Thank you, Lonnie!
@@lonnie-rs8km thank you Lonnie! ❤️
Wowwwww - so harsh Caleb 😂😂 - kidding, but I quite love the Empire, already ordered one 😉
Haha! I'm sorry, safe space!! I hope you love your Empire!
i want the empire tooo is on my wish list
You’re in good company Caleb and I’m here to support this video. The new drop isn’t a mic drop. Not impressed with the Times Square nor the Brooklyn or Empire. I think the buck stopped at the quilted tabby. Not excited. Great points you’ve made!!
Thank you, Julie! I appreciate that! Yeah, I'm ready to see something new from Coach for sure!
I love my Tabby, so much! I don't think I'd ever want to add another to my collection either.
The Brooklyn had me tempted at first glance. Great points on the bag quality. I need a pretzel bag charm in my life! 😂🥰
Haha you definitely need the pretzel charm!!
I was really only looking at the Empire because of someone I saw on IG… don’t think it’s gonna be added to my collection at this time. Great video! Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you, J! I was really hoping to love the 40cm, but it had too many design quirks for me personally.
Thanks for pointing out some of these potential issues. I’m such a “it’s cute. I want it” shopper that I don’t always look at the long term wear.
I'm glad I could help! I used to be the same way, but now I want to make sure I spend my money wisely on pieces that I'll have for a really long time!
Totally in agreement with you, that glove tan leather is nothing like we had seen coach before...
Thank you, catlady- and I agree 100%
The two bags behind you on your right, are so richly beautiful.
I think so too!
I have the OG Tabby that was much bigger minus the top handle. I didn't like when they made them puffy. However, I do like the Times Square Tabby because of the beautiful fall colorway. But I'm going to wait awhile to see if it's worth the money.
The colors are really good- I loved the green!
Hi Karyann! It's so cool that you still have some of your original Coach bags! I wish I had mine too. And the mini Rowan is super cute!
I appreciate your honesty. I agree 100%.
Thank you so much!
Hey Sofia! It's a shame Coach can't learn from their history!
They also made the empire in a size 28 sold by Dillards. I bought and love it. I agree on the lining. I would have much preferred a leather or cloth lining. I wish they would stop cheaping it up- but they are all doing it.
Yeah, the lining is such a shame!
That darn divider! haha!
Oooh- you're so right about the latte/chai colorway. That would be fabulous in a pebbled soft leather.
Quality is super important. But I agree- I do love the Merlot!
The Burough was such a unique bag! And that's good to hear that the Brooklyn 28 is small but mighty! I love a good hobo too!
@@CalebSnell yes !! 1941 bags always had jacquard lining ❤️and yes way better than micro fiber for sure
Thank you, Lula! It really is disappointing- Coach used to always be a step above similar brands with quality- it's a real shame!
I agree- I love the Merlot! So rich!
You made me go grab my tablet. I need the bag in the back ❤Brooklyn no & that waffle looking Tabby no, but the huge version of Empirecover all….YES. I want it
Haha! Overall, it's a really neat design! I just wish I could have fallen in love with it!
The Brooklyn interior is not painted. It’s brushed with Tokonole to make the nap lay flat, essentially the interior is burnished.
So the Tokonole is brushed or painted on. That’s interesting. How were you able to find out?
@@CalebSnell tokonole is a burnishing gum/glue. Usually it’s brushed on and the you take a piece of glass and rub it on the nap to lay it flat. I’m sure coach uses a more industrialized version of that (probably an industrial stamping machine) since they have to work on large quantities. I bought the Brooklyn and compared it to the leather items i make myself and it’s the same finish on the flesh side.
The one I tried on in store was already flaking. I wish they had just finished the suede interior for a more luxe feel.
@@CalebSnell I feel like Coach doesn’t use the highest quality leathers sometimes so if they would have used the suede interior, the fibers would have gotten all over the place too.
Thanks for that info! Do you think the Tokonole in the Brooklyn interior will hold up? Flake? I, too, bought the bag
Just grabbed the maple Brooklyn 23 for my birthday and it’s the perfect running around bag 🥰 fits my small essentials. For sure loved over the bigger ones.
Happy Birthday!! I hope you had an awesome day!!
I want that Empire 48 BAAAAAAD! 😂
Great video!!! Love your content
Thank you so much!!
I just ordered a Brooklyn bag! It’s so nice and soft, I do agree it’s on the thinner side but I did actually like that. Let’s see how long it lasts!
They came in some beautiful colors this season!
I have the 26 in black and LOVE IT! 💖
oh! That's a really classic choice. I might have to get the 26 as well!
I bought the 26 in Maple and it really is a lovely color. I would have loved a size 30- wonder why they jumped from 26 to 35?
Coach bags are such good quality definitely am looking to get quilted tabby it’s stunning and new plum and navy colour and same quality as 2k+ bags!!
The plum and navy are gorgeous colors!
Same dear, i have chanel and lv now but I couldn’t let go of my coach items from back then too… I was in high school when mom got me my firsts… so it’s quite nostalgic to puffy bags were not my thing… only got the Cassie bc I did not want to spend on the Métis monogram…
I love that you still have your original Coach bags. The Cassie is a great Pochette Metis alternative too!
I called Coach and asked what kind of leather the Brooklyn bag is and it is goat. Just in case you wanted to know. I ordered it online but I have cancelled my order.
Hi Jayne! That surprises me that it's Goat, it feel closer to calfskin from what I can remember. Thank you for letting me know!
Fall lover over here!!! I really like the Brooklyn in suede. Great video Caleb!!! Happy weekend :)
Thank you so much! Happy Weekend!
The Time Square Tabby looks like a deflated Madison Pillow. With those big apple, Statue of Liberty, yellow cab & Empire State Building charms, which by the way you can find from those I ❤ NY gift stores near Time Square, the TQ Tabby looks like a square pizza to me 😂
Great- now I want pizza! haha!
Totally agree on the Brooklyn I was just in coach yesterday the leather was so thin on the small one. I was shocked. Tabby def still in style tho. They were flying off the shelves yesterday. It’s really user friendly. The Ruby red is gorgeous
The Ruby red really is gorgeous! And it's such a shame about the Brooklyn, I had high hopes for it!
I am eyeing the Broome Carry all Bag 36
The Broome is gorgeous!
I agree- a leather lining or a true finished suede would have been better!
Thank you! I miss how the older bags aged- that leather was fabulous!
I hope you enjoy your new bag!
I agree about the quality difference. But there's something so appealing about a big slouchy hobo!
I agree! It's such a shame that they're just in it for the profit and not the quality and reputation. I hope that changes
I'm so glad you spoke on this topic I've been eyeing the Empire bag but very reluctant to pull the trigger and I couldn't quite put my finger on why that is. You have described the words that I was lacking as to why I'd rather put my $1600 dollars towards my goal bag Metier!
I’m not paying $1,600 for coach…
Thank you, Andrea! I went in wanting to fall in love with the Empire, but there were too many things about it that I just couldn't get over. Such a shame too!
I have the 20 merlot tabby and it is beautiful and luxe. But we all have our own sense of style.
Thank you, Stacey!
The Brooklyn is a fabulous looking bag- maybe the one I picked up at the boutique was a dud? Only time will tell!
I love this collection and colors forever a coach fan
The colors are fabulous
Same I think they did a great job this fall even in ready to wear and shoes. They a lot of my cash this season.
i saw on a japanese blog some peaks of coach original releases for fall 2024… they are releasing another version of the safari tote and hamilton hobo’s (?). the Hamilton style hobo had bedazzled jacquard.
Oooh! That would be cool to see!
I agree with you I’m not loving these new bags. I think the cost cutting, not leather inside, and pricing of these bags are ridiculous! Tfs Caleb 😀
Thank you, Andrea! Yeah, too many corners cut for me to appreciate them, which is such a shame.
On the fence with the empire 40 -- $695 plus tax not big on the calf leather and the fabric lining for that amount of money. I have tons of vintage Coach back to 70's whole other ball game.
You're right- I prefer the older bags any day!
Caleb. Good review. There was a couple I thought was nice. But I don’t know about purchasing I see tabby’s everywhere. One thing on my bags I have to have a zipper close.
Thank you, Kris! And you made some good points!
Would love to hear your thoughts on the new Cassie 17.
I haven't seen it yet, but I'm excited to!
Thank you for keeping my feet on the ground lol I'm in love with the merlot/brass combo but I just haven't committed to a style.
Haha! I'm happy I could help! Yeah, I love that colorway too, it's such a classic combo.
@CalebSnell Sorry and the typos 😆
I have plans on turning the chain accessory into a necklace. Super cute ❤
That would be super cool!
Love this video. I agree with you about the row margeaux
Thank you!
I would like to know what you think about the new all leather backpacks they look buttery soft ❤
I feel like the 35 should have been soft as well. Haha- oil stains, now I can't unsee it!
Did you get a chance to see the suede quilted tabby 26? Curious to the quality of that suede.
Not yet! I'll have to go back and check it out!
Would Love to have Time Square Tabby 👍
Overall it is a cute bag! I would just have to work at getting over the center divider.
Navy and brass is a total vibe! And feet of course are a bonus too!
I have never been interested in Coach until they made the Empire Carryall 40😊
Coach is a great brand with a really cool history!
I love the Brooklyn 39. I love coach but haven't purchased in 2 years because nothing really impressed me. Not into the tabby phenomenon
The Brooklyn however is chic and I've been enjoying it. Might add another color.
They do come in some stunning colors!
These are all really great points! It takes a lot to make the perfect tote!
