Analyzing Roger Goodell's comments on 18-game schedule | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
/ nflonnbc - กีฬา
This is why Florio is great. Will always call out BS and hypocrisies no matter what. May not agree with what he says all the time but I always respect him for sticking to his convictions.
Yeah, he'll even call it out when it doesn't exist!
It's funny when Pat acts and says he such a tough interviewer. He almost always let people say whatever they want without pushing back at all.
The problem is you have to decipher if it's an actual discrepancy or if it's a Florio fantasy
@@clownkilla7003 Exactly.
I love the point of 'if thats fine Roger then you do your job part time too'
Agreed. Hard to argue. I wonder what the total salary is of all the NFL officials' other jobs. They already make 200k a year (~12k/game). I would already not have another job making that money lol. There are 121 NFL officials. Let's be generous and say their other jobs earn each, on average 115,000. If the NFL simply replaced all their income streams from other jobs and made them full time, so their total takehome is the same, it would be an extra 14 million. Doesn't seem like much to the 18 billion dollar behemoth that is the nfl. Maybe it because of benefit packages and things as well. The money part simply doesn't make sense to me. They shell out for everything else and they skimp on refs? I don't get it.
🔥
Favorite football duo for the last 2-3 years
This is why we love you, Mike never change.
Good job guys! Love you guys calling out the bs and telling how things really are! Keep it up!
I'll say that if the NFL wants to go to 18+games, NFLPA needs to push for two things: Guaranteed contracts and all grass fields.
Players should be pushing for the fully guaranteed contracts if theyre expected to really put their careers at more risk with more games.
And 2-3 bye weeks
The NFLPA doesn’t make the NFL Schedule.
@@triciagurr411 Uh, duh. But it's a union, it has powers under the CBA. Why do you think that players get paid so much at all? The union has the power to demand things. It doesn't always get them, but there is a long list of levers they can pull to get it done.
USFL in the 80's had an 18 game schedule without any byes.
@@someperson8151yeah, and that went really well didn't it. What's with you weirdos going "but muh 80s"
I must have missed them talking about the 18 game schedule...
18 game season means shorter careers in terms of years
One of the best sports talk Duo!!
I watch Peacock/NBC Sports because of MIKE FLORIO 💪🏻🇺🇲
18 games??? So much for player safety!
They get paid enough…
Players want more money.
Also an extra bye week though
They wont get more tho@@johnbox271
I agree 100% with you guys that the NFL ought to have FULL TIME OFFICIALS. It's a NO-BRAINER that an official (anybody) is going to be MUCH more proficiant performing his craft when he does it, and only it, FULL TIME as opposed to occasiionally !!!!!!!!!
I was a full-time member of the military, and at a few postings I would also work as "merely" a high school football official. We spent an intense several weeks throughout the summer going over the rule book every year and taking a NATIONAL TEST based upon that annually updated high school rule book. We had to score highly enough OR WE WERE INELIGIBLE TO OFFICIATE GAMES. Once the season began, it was a given that we would continue to meet for @ 4 hours after work EVERY WEEK to go over the previous weekend's games -- ALL of them. We discussed various scenarios that had arisen and reinforced how to call various scenarios (we did a lot of that BEFORE the season and during pre-season too, so it was really only fine-tuning (IF needed at all) during the regular season. If we missed the weekly meetings, we were also INELIGIBLE to officiate games the following weekend. And we were only low-paid part-time officials who had other "real jobs" by day and officiated games solely because we loved the game. We were actually pretty good ... but only a fool would contend we couldn't be even better if that was our ONLY job !!!
How about Eliminating all the games being played in Europe and South America.
I agree, it's not a world sport😆
I'm sure the players hate traveling that far and I dislike getting up at 5 am to watch the game. They can have soccer, American loves football.
@user-xm5pj2cs6n you must have been asleep for the past decade. Sebastian Volmer and Jacob Johnson would like a word.
@@jamescadzow9545you speaking for all Americans?
The NFL product is already being degraded due to the number of injuries. Let's add another game?
prepare for 20 game seasons
Is it? That’s news to me
Stupid comment. How many of those injuries are the last week? Exactly.
@@venskus2009 Not stupid at all, Einstein. More games equals more injuries.
@@MrLivermore90 How many games do you get excited for and then find out one team has a lot of injuries or injuries to their key players? MANY OF THEM
This is what journalism looks like.
Still no Atlanta tampering penalty? Wow
Should be 2025🙄
If it was New England the “investigation” would have been brief and the punishment severe. Atlanta won’t even get a slap on the wrist.
@@scull-crusherstudios1168 yall got away with everything🤣
Chris'sDad is unemployed now, or as we 68 year olds say, "retired". I watched Phil win the Super Bowl. He's one of the all time greats !
The thing is everyone just assumes that being a referee is a full time position and are mildly shocked upon learning that it isn't
With an 18 game schedule we could have games everyday Sunday‐Thursday. Say they started week 6 Tuesday and Wednesday with the teams that had a bye week 5, between weeks 5 and 6 they would have 9-10 days between games and when they play week 7 they would have 11-12 days between games. While week 6 is technically their bye, they would get more rest on the back end of their game after the bye week.
18 games, 2 bye weeks, all grass fields, 50/50 revenue split. NFLPA needs to hold those down in the next round of negotiations.
Wow Florio, Goodell answers to the people that own the league? What a crazy system.
Yeah well 80% of NFL fans think Goodell runs the league. Foreign fans know more about how it works than most Americans
GoodHell: got taken to the woodshed today.
One of biggest businesses around and treating referees like fast food workers by working part time not full time is absurd.
0:30 he doesn’t keep everybody happy obviously that’s not his job. His job is to make money.
People love to complain about everything, but officials in NHL and NBA are better than the NFL. I wish Pat pushed back but also he wouldn’t get that interview if he effectively pushed back
It's funny how Florio acts like a rational reasonable person on Sunday Night Football and a raving lunatic conspiracy theorist on this TH-cam.
(angry upvote lol)
Ehh, I get what Mikes sayin, but it kinda feels a little conspiratorial at this point with all the "he's lying, they're all lying to you" comments
40 teams and 20 weeks, that’s clearly the NFLs goal
Two 9 week halves to the season. Give a buy week for each team in each half of the season. And another break in between the two halves. Gives each team 3 buy weeks. Also. Expand the rosters.
No .they went from 16 to 17 to make the wild card easier to figure out.but no more games guys are wearing down and keeping healthy qbs is hard enough.quality of play will begin to suffer.
They went from 16 to 17 and an extra wold card for money😂 imagine being that gullible
Shoulda kept 16 game schedule, you're putting players at more risk🕶️
18 game schedule will break even more players and Goodell couldn't care less about them or the product, just what the owners want- more money. Just the reality like you say.
What he cares about is more money. He doesn't care about the injuries. 😢
Goodell and the owners are so greedy.
You accept it, because your feeding off it too.
So why don't YOU Stop Pretending ... that you actually care "Mr" Flame-Pot.
15:03 hey college is no preseason. They have cupcake games, but it’s not the concept is totally foreign.
no matter how many games they wanna add they need to Stop tying it to preseason...the roster gets filled out and udfas get a chance to showcase their talent to the other 31 teams that WOULDNT see them just in practices by playing the damn games leave them alone!!!!
Only reason Goodell went on pat mcafee show is because he knew it was a layup. Pat don't ask hard questions. He just laughs at everything
I personally feel like the Owners are getting greedy. They're diluting the game too much. Like take a lesson from the UFC. It's not the same anymore.
That's what in the past has gotten them here that Football was only on Sundays and Mondays..Now its Saturdays and Thursdays as well...They also need to stop with the rule changes..
This is kind of silly to focus on because he has to please everyone but everyone doesnt vote to keep him employed. He has to answer or please everyone for the product and success, but you and i aren't paying that salary
One change that would really change officiating: sensors in the football so the refs could see where the football was at any time. It would be huge.
I like your way of thinking.. but let's go with shock collars
2:57 so you mean the NFL was just like the US government and the other big corporation. as an adult, I hate the NFL and everything it stands for I love football. I hate everything about the NFL and it’s OK. You can speak the truth. I’m not stupid. It’s the truth. We all know it is.
Myles Garrett gets held all the time and the refs just don’t call it cause they assume he’s such a freak that they can’t call a hold on him.
Don’t like gambling is a full stop lie.
At least he didn’t lie and say, he answers to the fans, because the lie detector would say…
Goodell is 🗑 of a commissioner, vote him out.
The owners certainly don’t think so. They’re making money hand over fist & the NFL has never been more popular. The last Super Bowl was the most watched television program in US history.
Florio, you're not a billionaire... Or a player... He didnt say he answers to sports writers at NBC. Lmao. Wowza.
bad shirt MF - really bad 😅
Floria’s employment status will be the same as Simms’ dad pretty soon. Just sayin’.
It's almost comical to see how tightly a billionaire holds onto a penny
Hey Chris, I’m a Giants fan so I love your dad but stop drinking the NFL Kool-Aid OK be more on my side
Florio at 9:30- “we deal with that all the time. Everyone thinks the fix is in” no they don’t?? Literally maybe 10% of NFL fans truly believe that it’s rigged in some way. Cmon. You’re the one that perpetuates this belief more than anyone. You bring it up more than anyone. No logical fan actually thinks the fix is in. Jesus Christ they don’t have to worry about that because it’s not fixed. If the game was fixed then they would have to worry about the perception. Florio is delusional and off his rocker I swear
He really is. He just likes chaos. He’s the kind of guy that goes to a family dinner, stirs shit up, then sits back to gleefully watch the family tear itself apart.
Clickbait! They barely spoke about the 18 game schedule at the very end. Whined about gambling instead. Not clicking on their stuff for a while. Maybe ppl assigning titles will realize it’s not cool to waste the time of their viewers.

This is what I would love to see:
32 team NFL plays a 22 game season schedule every year -- 11 home, 11 away games
a) Each team plays 18 games within its own conference, and (as presently set up), 4 games with a rotational division from the other conference (e.g., AFC East vs NFC West)
(1) the 4 games against the rotational division in the other conference are the FIRST 4 games of the schedule for EVERY team, and occur during the month of August (taking the spot of the former pre-season games)
(2) ALL games MUST be played at night -- or at air-conditioned indoor stadiums -- to combat summer heat strokes
(3) ALL games take place before final roster cuts (final cuts occur prior to the start of the 18 game conference schedule)
(4) ALL games MUST feature NON-STARTING players, rookies, undrafted free agents, other free agents, etc. for AT LEAST HALF of each game; the other 50% is within the team's discretion how much/little they want the starters to play (if at all)
(5) ALL games "count" for the record books, BUT NOT for determining which teams qualify for their own conference playoff berths at the end of the regular season (because the objective is for each conference to determine which of its teams deserve a conference playof slot based upon the teams within the conference earning the best records based upon everyone playing common opponents [and not every team plays the same teams from the other conference] -- some are better than others)
b) The 18 conference games are broken down thus:
(1) Teams within divisions still play their division opponants 2x per regular season -- home and away, 6 total games: 3 home, 3 away
(2) The remaining 12 conference games are 1x match-ups every season
(3) the 6 home games in season 1 (half the teams from each other division in the same conference) become the 6 away games (the other half of the teams from each other division in the same conference) in season 2; likewise, the 6 away games in season 1 become the 6 home games in season 2. The schedule keeps alternating this way every other year.
(4) This arrangement preserves long-standing traditional divisional rivalries with extra games, while also ensuring that EVERY team faces EVERY TEAM in its OWN CONFERENCE EVERY SEASON. It also preserves the NFL rotational model that fans get to see every team from the opposing conference every 8 years.
c) 8 teams from EACH conference qualify for the conference playoffs -- the best 8 teams based upon the head-to-head conference schedule
(1) NO 'byes; a "bye" is too great of an advantage in a leage with so much parity.
(2) Ordinarily, the first 4 slots/"home teams" for Round 1 of the playoffs are the 4 division winners within the Conference; the 4 remaining teams are the next 4 teams with the best records in the head-to-head conference schedule
(3) However, a "Division Champion" is susceptible to LOSE its automatic playoff qualifiaction IF it posts a LOSING record during the conference season schedule. Here is what is required for that to happen:
(a) the "Division Champion" posts a LOSING record in the conference schedule;
(b) a would-be Wild Card team that has "just missed" the playoff cut nonetheless:
(1) has a BETTER record than that "Division Champion" by AT LEAST 3 games, AND
(2) DEFEATED that "Division Champion" head-to-head that season, then
that would-be Wild Card team qualifies for a Wild Card position, the "Division Champion" misses the playoffs, and the Wild Card team with the best record qualifies as lowest-seeded "home" playoff team during the first round of the playoffs
(4) The highest seeded teams remaining alive in the playoffs after each round get to host the next round game(s)
How much would the salaries of refs even cost? They make unlimited money
Goodell was basically giving word salad on a lot of that stuff but he’s not wrong when he essentially said that even with full-time officials people are still gonna complain. Florio: why would the league try to listen to you and improve anything when they know that it won’t matter cuz you’ll move on to another issue to complain about. They’ll never win and you’ll always find a way to criticize them.
You can visibly see Simms' disgust every time Florio goes on a jealous rant trying to bring down the NFL. Lol
Weasel Mike really is a piece of work
@randypeters366 he would die happy if he could bring down the NFL .
I'm happy he calls out all of the league's BS. Did you even listen to Simms' response? He is disgusted by the bad calls on the field, not Florio. Go watch ESPN if you want to be spoon fed crap.
@@currensea9094💯
Roger wants to call out how the officials have gotten better, meanwhile in Detroit everyone at the draft is yelling decker reported. Thanks for screwing lions fans again Roger- bang up job.
I have an idea, why not expand the season to, say, 20 games and limit the number of games a player can suit up for in the season to, say 16 games, exclusive of playoff games. An expanded roster would be required but would add an interesting dynamic of scheduling the eligible players... This could benefit the players for recovery time from the intensive physical play.🤗👍
That’s a cool idea
So you want to fuck over the fans by benching players like mahomes/Allen/burrow 4 times per year. Then you want to water down the product by expanding the rosters? Best players not playing and more scrubs in the game. Dumb idea but thanks for the laugh
What a weak interviewer Macafee is, didn’t fallow up with anything other than “got it”. And I don’t care if I spelled his name wrong.
Just like all the other lib elite companies like Hollywood, the movies aren’t bad, it’s the audience (fans)!! 😂😂
Lions must not rank in the top 24, since Florio ignores them at all costs.
Florio has a pathological hatred for billionaires. The other major leagues have the same setup. I don't understand what he is so upset about other than my opening line.
more a learned scepticism, he's a very smart man!
Goodell is a snake with a forked tongue. Despite the incredible athletes today I would rather watch a Football game from 30 years ago. The NFL today is all about the entertainment dollars first, second, and third.
First!
It is why i am done with the NFL Rodger Badell NFL sucks they are ruining football 🏈 🏈
Remember kids, the CHOICE to not fix officiating is PROOF of game fixing.
Florio is drama queen. Simms is POS with filler bs..
