The devs on this game are actually just insanely awesome. Have pushed out community requested features + content patches consistently every 3 weeks for the last few years???
Both plastic and petrol are basically the same thing - chains of hydrocarbons. The heaviest stuff - plastic - is basically a solid, while the lightest (methane, basically) is a gas, and this is more or less determined by how long those hydrocarbon chains are. Imagine the difference between trying to burn an entire log vs. trying to burn wood shavings or sawdust - the smaller bits burn easier because they have higher surface area > volume ratio, it's the same basic concept for hydrocarbons, the shorter chains burn more easily and completely.
Either you like starting discussions about the plastic and petrol out of nowhere or this charming roguelite citybuilder requires understanding of hydrocarbon chain physics. Both options are equally terrifying.
It's not just that but we add other elements and chemicals to plastic to change how it functions. If all plastic actually was, was hydrocarbons it wouldn't be that much different than burning gas. Sweden has actually started burning garbage but none of the products are released into the atmosphere which includes solids and gases.
you can burn plastic completely as well, especially in specific facilities. And many incomplete products of combustion are not gases anyway, so what is the issue then?
as somebody that has 300h in this over the last 2 months, this will be a interesting watch. Buy it if youre into city builders but dont want just another city builder
@@OpinionatedSkink This has more of a factory builder / puzzle / roguelike hybrid. Each run consists of multiple levels and on each level you for the most part completely reset. Each level has randomly generated resources on the map and different starting races to play with that each have there own specialties. Whist the basic mechanics persist throughout the game the different combos and paths to victory that come from the rng means each level plays quite different and so you have to adapt a lot of your strategy to compensate or you will lose very quickly. Each level will run from 30min to 2 hour and each run will go for about 5 levels but you can add more as you unlock meta progression. You can choose the difficulty for each level and it scales up a lot. A closer comparison would probably be something like Slipways. All in all a fantastic game but definitely an infinite Just One More Turn type game that will have you going to bed at sunrise if you aren't careful.
"What happens to the fumes of burning trash when they rise into the air away from people?" It eventually cools down and stops rising, then you have smog and/or acid rain or something when it falls back down, I think. I dunno, I'm no meterologist, but I know how the water cycle works.
On the question of burning garbage, I can answer. Burning garbage is bad, but scrubbers are used to clear the vast majority of the dangerous and toxic fumes produced by the burning polymers. Co-Generation plants reduce the amount of waste going into landfills, and help to improve the quality of the waste going into the landfill. For comparison, if 100,000 tons of trash are burned down to 1,000 tons of ash, obviously it is better for the environment for the ash to be dumped in the landfill vs the raw garbage. Anyway love the content NL, keep up the great work!
I watched the VOD and he basically signs off saying this is a great game but we will probably never see him stream it again. Not surprised. Too easy for him to get into banter mode then play it so slow that it’s not engaging at all.
In regards to the burning fuel vs burning trash question: trash can contain products that release toxic chemicals when burned such has heavy metals, carcinogens, soot, and ash. The shorter the hydrocarbon chain, the more completely the fuel burns.
Plastic is pretty much hydrocarbons with additives. Burning it is bad - the hydrocarbons burn into CO2 and the additives tend to create toxic compounds. However, if you do it (in a proper power plant, not just out in the open) and scrub the exhaust, it’s arguably better for the environment than burying it in a landfill and letting it sit there for generations. You can also get some energy out of it.
I still remember back in the days playing warcraft. I enjoy building across the map to build a city, more than the core gameplay. Seems like this is the right game for me
We burned our trash in the country in the 90's. If you burn plastic it puts off pretty colors and horrid fumes. If you are like 1-2 foot away from it, you pretty much can't smell it unless the wind blow your direction. That being said, don't burn your trash. It is quite bad, but back then we did not know better.
Yoooo this is sick! I played a bunch of Against the Storm maybe 3-4 months ago and I really loved it but haven't played it in a bit. I'm really excited to see you check it out, it's really cool
Fwiw the fumes from burning trash are generally heavier than "air". If we burned trash on a human scale, the fumes would displace all of the breathable atmosphere and humanity would be wiped out. So maybe that is the play after all.
There are some intensely enjoyable games that come out in the 60-75 range on metcritic; I think in many cases games that have performance issues on release take a big hit and the scores are never adjusted.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! This game is amazing. I'm pogging out of control right now. It's like watching your local rapper blow up, and act like they don't know no body.
1:00 That is just called a cult hit or a niche game. Many games will have its fans; the main difference will be how many. A "bad" game may be someone else's favorite.
Kenshi has a 75 on metacritic, Bannerlord is at 77, Caves of Qud isn't rated, OpenTTD isn't rated, Project Zomboid isn't rated, Noita is at a 76. Risk of Rain, 77....
Isn't burning waste the standard? In the EU only inert waste can be deposited in landfills (to address the leeching and uncontrollable emissions). You shouldn't do it in your garden, because big fire bad and hazardous gasses are a thing. Plus the smell.
Idk what any of this NL vid was about, but I was drunk af and skimming through because I couldnt understand a single thing because of his banter; that said, usually he doesnt understand at all (disregarding me being drunk)
Burning trash has a very low energy output/density. Burning 1 ton of trash would yield far less energy vs 1 ton of oil. On top of that, the trash also has worse pollutants. If this was pre industrial era, the toxicity wouldn't be as high, but our modern chems screw that up. Think about using plastic to heat an oven vs wood or coal.
I really enjoyed this game the first play. Then I got bored and never played it again. The pace is just a bit too slow and nothing really seems to happen. Farthest Frontier is similar but better imo.
14:00 Thats bullshit. Nobody truly expects you to have that knowledge. People will just complain. So what. probably rightfully so. But you just dont have to care about it that much dude. Its a good thing when people talk about the awful things people did. It encourages a culture where its harder to get away with these sort of crimes. Because that used to be VERY EASY. But no one reasonable expects anybody to know about all of those. Or 100 percent boycot any content someone like that is a part of. People will just talk. (which is kind of good, like you kinda said yourself) And thats it.
While I agree that mass-produced food could be better, his car analogy just doesn't work at all. That industry is all about "small batch" luxury car brands like Bugatti and Koenigsegg and bespoke modification shops like RUF, Saleen, Hennessy. The mass-produced Hondas aren't usually anywhere as high quality, but they are a lot cheaper.

In Denmark we burn trash to generate energy. We are also required to sort our trash, so we recycle stuff like plastic and cardboard
In Sweden we burn so much garbage (in heating/power plants) that we have to import some from our neighbors to fulfil the garbage demand.
This is the equivalent of playing BG3 for 45 minutes and then never playing it again.
This is such a great game. I hope he gets at least a little deeper into it.
