This gaslights me so hard cause Ryan's take just make 10000000000% sense to me. If the situation arises that means you or a jaywalker has to die, and the situation is made because the jaywalkers decision to jaywalk, it absolutely falls on them
Often drunk drivers live through fatal crashes for the sober driver because their body is loose and relaxed. Jaywalkers? They can be brought to justice.
My interpretation of Ryan's jaywalker argument is that Rob is saying "Jaywalking shouldn't be a death sentence" whereas Ryan is saying "having less value in society shouldn't be a death sentence, and thus jaywalking is all that's left to go off of and they caused the problem to begin with". And honestly, I agree with Ryan 100% on this.

It's not even a term in the majority of "1st world countries", let alone part of the law. It was a concept coined by the American motor industry in the 20s and it staggers me people are still willing to go out and call the rest of the world "3rd world" because their systems put less lives at risk (for example: UK where there are no jaywalking laws had 0.736 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2011 compared to 1.422 per 100,000 in the USA). In fact, the most famous case of a country outside of America instituting jaywalking laws was China recently, a "2nd world country" by your own language.
@@TheNetherlandDwarf riddlemethis....why are there crosswalks in Japan? Why are there lollypop-men in the U.K.? If jaywalking isn't a thing, why have those? Why have stoplights with "cross/don't cross" lights on them at intersections?
As someone with an Ethics master's degree, there were some very entertaining things as well as some frustrating things from my perspective as an ethics teacher. Few things are more exasperating than a student who tries the utmost to avoid the dilemma by throwing up practical and other constraints. Some students keep at it, even if you spell out exactly which moral underbelly stuff you're trying to get at and have them concretise and reflect upon.
The whole problem was that they didn't know if it was an ethic dilema or a discussion about how the cars should act. I was with Nick at the beggining in saying "things aren't in a vaccum, we should analise further" but then it actually turned into a full moral and ethics thing, but it's supposed to be a comedy show, and that makes it so they can't go too deep, and that every time they realise what they're doing they stop
I feel like when Rob pictures jaywalkers he's imagining them safely jaywalking with no risk, but in the scenario they're jaywalking in front of a moving car that would have to slam on their brakes or swerve to avoid hitting them. The jaywalkers in the example are textbook examples of putting others/themselves in danger, and thus I feel like Ryan has the clear answer in that they should be the ones to die if someone has to.
Part one of THREE?1? Fuck. I'm sorry Good Egor. I pay for these videos to be made, so I feel like this is partly my fault. 2:12:57 Oh my. He had no idea how wrong he would be.

Having never seen the original vod and only hearing the memes this was eye opening. Ryan has been gaslit so hard for his objectively correct take on jaywalkers deserving to die if their action forces someone to do so. Also Rob is spouting nonsense with the "they could be Albert Einstein though" take. Since you have no way to know, the assumption is that both parties are completely average people. The only information you have is that one is breaking the law in a dangerous way and the other isn't, which means one is a worse than average person while the other isn't. Therefore on average you're killing the worse person anyway by killing the jaywalker. Also why does being super smart or great at sports warrant you a greater right to life than a shelf stacker? Like why is it relevant that they're Einstein?
It's relevant because Einstein has a lot more to offer to a society than a shelf stacker. Or do you beg to differ? I dont think that that warrant you a greater right to life, but most people live in a society and so they tend to weigh others right to life through the lens of the society that they are currently in. Truly, we live in a society it seems.
@@FallingofHeroes I don't disagree about them contributing more to society but it was brought up in the context of that granting a greater right to life, which I don't stand by. I don't think that should affect any part of the decision
