R.I.P. Dear Vera Lynn. I've always loved "We'll meet again". But I always get choked up when singing it, because I think about all those servicemen who sang that song only to never see home again.
She personified the British courage, faith in the future. She put her soul in her voice and we felt it was true, that we will meet again, that we shall ovecome. Thank you, Dame Vera, thank you from the bottom of all British hearts!
@@tanishakhandelwal9297 Its always sad when someone dies no matter what age or how good their life was. Think of her family losing someone so dear to them. Anyway people will both mourn her loss and celebrate her life. R.I.P Vera ❤
People of this generation dont understand the background of music that came from our past, im only 26 and have been a big fan of music before my time for years now. I can only hope that history never dies on this occasion and she will love forever and yes we will meet again!!
Yes exactly in 18 and I haven’t listened to a modern song for 10 years now. All I have listened to since was the golden age of jazz and British dance band music. It’s so nostalgic even though I never experienced first hand
There is a lady that I can confidently say as a yank that every one of us should aspire to be. There has been none finer than Vera Lynn in body, soul and now in legend.
I am a 29 year old man and this is the first time I have ever cried since being a child!! My Russian grandfather fought in Stalingrad and my Welsh great uncles fought in Burma, I feel ashamed for crying! Respect to all!!!
@@gemmag.2988 There appears to be no room on the internet for a bit of good old fashioned humour! People are always looking to find offence in everything nowadays. Sad.
I got introduced to Vera Lynn when her rendition of "We'll Meet Again" was used as the closing title for the movie Dr. Strangelove. I loved her singing. I wasn't alive when her singing rallied a nation during WWII. RIP Vera Lynn. Thanks for giving us inspiration during one of the world's darkest hours.
From America: I always liked this song very much but never heard it out when it came on television so I didn’t know who Vera Lynn was. Then I learned on tonight’s news who she was and that she had died. It showed her singing to the troops and I started tearing up knowing the fate of so many was in such great peril in those dark times. My father was one as a Sargent in the US army. A great story, a beautiful voice and a great lady.
I had a lovely time reading her book "Dame Vera Lynn: Some Sunny Day: My Autobiography". She was a symbol of hope to her country and also to those people in the occupied European nations.
She was a living link to the past, a gateway to history. She may be gone, but her name, and the moral boosting contribution to England when we needed it, will be forever inextricably linked. RIP Vera. X
Lifes long day is over, thanks for the memorable times, my grandfather fought for the empire and I remember your voice, you probably dont even know how much you ment😭 rip
One of the greatest voices of the 20th Century has been silenced. Vera Lynn had the most beautiful voice. This is a sad day. I am an American Boomer, but I,ve admired her beautiful songs.
One of the voices of WWII, Vera Lynn will be missed, my elderly father grew up listening to her music during the war & still enjoys "The White Cliffs of Dover," and "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square," especially the latter, when I play it on TH-cam he gets very nostalgic & teary. Vera Lynn was a part of history & her music will live on.
My great uncle was in the American army stationed in England between 1943-45. I remember him listing to records of Vera Lynn and I heard him say he saw her at a performance for the troops he said she had the voice of an Angel and was quite beautiful as well. Now she is an Angel and hopefully she is meeting old friends and fans again in the hereafter.
We will all miss you Vera you were inspiring and above all boosted morale of many nations. I'm saluting you and blowing a kiss as your music still reminds me of all my family that were in the forces and listening to you on the wireless in the munitions factories, my father listened to you in the Royal Engineers, my mother came to see you in 95 , now 88 sends her love, we pay our respects, you will be singing again to all those who love you in heaven😇🎶🎙
It's amazing how the passing of someone who gave her all to uplift a country under siege from the sky can bring out emotions in someone who only knew her by her songs. Too many people have no idea what the people of Britain went through over World War Two and Vera Lyn gave them hope through her songs.
What a darling. Everything Vera sung was beautiful. She could sing anything and it was like hearing God or something like that. No other popular female vocalist like her at all. Humble and dignified = a real Star. Every time she sang - she was singing to you and you alone.
Love the way that she said that she always chose the songs for the lyrics. The music was secondary. Her diction is wonderful, also a good amateur artist.
I meet and worked with Dame Vera one day many years ago. At lunch I was serving champagne to some WW2 pilots and Dame Vera. I asked her if she would like some more champagne. She said “No thank you”. As I went to walk away she tapped me on the arm and said. “Well, if you could just refresh my bubbles!” Class.
I’m 72 and was born after WWII. But music was a staple in the home where I grew up so Vera Lynn’s music was something I became familiar with and loved. Dame Vera was a guest at the Hamilton Airshow, (Ontario, Canada) perhaps more than 20 years ago. I was fortunate to find myself standing a few feet away from the podium where she sang. It was a wonderful experience that I shall always remember.
Born when the First World War was still raging, served when the world is in its Second World War, saw the rise and fall of the British Empire, the ascension of 4 monarchs to the British throne, and lived long enough to see the Centenary of the First World War. Not many people can live long enough to see how a country and a world changed in a hundred years...
