      Here is a video, in which I introduced the straw necklace: th-cam.com/video/5IJ817uMGgM/w-d-xo.html You can check them out at oovostraw.com/ (but order only within US). But just a reminder that these exercises will work with any other straw.

      Some fantastic videos, we sing alot of everly brothers stuff, but I'm suffering with M.T.D I've been to E.N.T and there is nothing wrong, I'm really fed up because I use to sing lovely now I just can't and it's also making me anxious 🙃

    I have been a professional singer/pianist all my life. My story is long, but I have been depressed with not working or singing since Covid restrictions....almost 2 years. My voice has been lost, weak, non existant for all that time and that has devastated me. Your straw exercises have given my hope again. I will start to practice them everyday and enjoy the happiness that you have brought to me. Thank you

    I noticed a small difference after the first time. It helped me to more evenly increase my volume & be aware of the sensation of when my voice was about to crack & prevent it. Since menopause my voice has become so unpredictable with it’s breaks. Thank you for your videos. I was using a wide paper straw from Starbucks. I like the idea of different widths.

    I tried these exercises along while watching your video, and amazingly my voice does seem flow fuller and easier afterwards. Thank you! In the video, you asked us to observe how we are producing our louder sounds, wether it is by blowing more air or by using certain muscles. What would be the ideal way to produce loud sound then, by blowing more air? or by involving the muscles?

    • @melissapelino5713
      @melissapelino5713 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Muscles. Don’t push more air. Tell your muscles to allow space for the air to naturally come out

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There is place for both strategies but it is true that pushing more air can be harder on the vocal folds. But different vocal tasks require different vocal strategies. You can increase air pressure without harming your voice. You just need to know how.

  • @luciadantzler8393
    @luciadantzler8393 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Katarina, I am just starting these vocal exercises with you and notice that sometimes when I go up the scale blowing through the straw, there's a certain point or pitch, and my voice breaks. If I go on up the scale, my voice is clear. Not sure what is happening or what I should do. Thank you for posting these exercises for singers.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is very common, especially when you blow through a thin straw. Try to reduce the air blowing through the straw as you are approaching the break. And give your voice more support by engaging the head and heck muscles.

    Hi Katarina! I noticed I could see your larynx move up and down in these straw exercises (especially the siren) -- isn't that exactly what we want to avoid doing when singing? Thanks for clarifying that and for these wonderful videos!

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Your larynx will move up and down when changing the pitch. If you keep it in one fixed position, you may be creating tension. For certain styles you may keep the larynx in one general area but there will always be movement of the larynx. Great observation!

  • @amittanna3806
    @amittanna3806 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I probably did not do all the exercise perfectly at first try, but should improve once I do it multiple times. At point of doing exercise in certain condition because my throat is hurting as of now, I could feel certain muscle pain in my throat slightly when doing exercise but it felt good, like getting foot massage when feet are hurting. There was a considerable difference in my voice after the exercise main difference was, I felt more comfortable talking after the exercise. BTW I am not a singer so I had counted 1 to 20.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Amit, it is great that you could hear and feel the difference. Ease of production is a great indicator if the exercise is working or not. But I would suggest that you stop doing the exercise when it's starting to hurt because it should not. Instead, keep doing it at a level which feels most comfortable.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Straw exercises don't have to be long: 2 to 5 minutes, maybe 2 times a day. Just choose the right resistance level so that you don't overwork your vocal folds. Good luck with quitting your habits!

  • @PeetiePeete
    @PeetiePeete 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Are there any long lasting benefits to exercising my voice with a straw? Not necessarily "permanent" but like lifting weights for your muscles to grow for example, is it possible to see the results from these exercises long after I last used a straw or is this more of an immediate/temporary fix? (ie a warmup tool before singing/speaking).

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is not much research on long-term effects even though some studies suggest that there is a long-term benefit. It also depends on what your goal is and what your current vocal status is. Very often, it's not the type of exercise that you use but it's the frequency of the exercises that brings more long-term effects. I hope this answers your question.

    How long do you reccomend doing these exercises for?

      @healthyvoicetips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      5 to 10 minutes should be more than enough, then do something else.

    I have watched your vlog regarding the tight muscles under your chin and also in your throat and slightly hurting on one side but I am not a singer, can this affect anyone please.

      No, this exercise does not damage anything. It's very gentle on your vocal folds.

    My voice was worse after the exercises. Raspy and not as clear. kathy

      I suggest that you don't continue doing them. You probably used too much breath pressure or you pushed too much or the exercises are not the right exercises for you.
