      Hi, love your videos. You give very accurate information. I was wondering if you could tell what to do to hear yourself better when singing. Only when i hear the recording of my singing i know how exactly i did sound. Zo, how can i haar my singing better. ( i practice without microphone). Thank you very much

      @@EmmCoss , thank you for your kind words. You have a very good question. What you hear in real time when you sing is not the best representation of what you really sound like for other people. For a singer, it is more important to focus on how it feels and how it looks and improving self-awareness of the movements of different body parts and how they affect the sound. Recording is a great tool to check your voice from time to time but in real time, you need to rely more on what you feel. So use your hands and eyes to improve self-awareness.

      I love that you mention movement, meditation and humming just as you mentioned. This is exactly what I do in my morning routine prior to singing. It just feels good and it’s so helpful coordinating the body + voice in this way 🙏💗

      I used to be an amazing singer. With full control of my vocal ranges. And 5 years ago... I'm not sure what did it. ( I was in an abusive relationship where I screamed alot) anyway, I can't talk with expanding a ton of energy. Sound like a monster.
      It's so tight. People are very turned off when I speak. I've isolated and have become socially Paralyzed. I found your videos and I'm praying they can help me. Even a little bit. I needed hope and you have given me that. So,
      Thank you very much for doing what your doing. The impact you are having on many including myself ..just being a recourse..

    I’ve watched thousands of videos on vocal warm-ups over the many years I’ve been singing. Many of them have helped me improve my voice. I’m subscribed to dozens of channels that I know and love. This is the video that has helped me the most. I’m upset that it took me this long to find it and I’m not sure hHOW it took me this long to find it. Thank you.

    The steaming is very helpful, also for the sinuses. After steaming I do a saline rinse of the sinuses. Unpleasant but very beneficial.

      @@mariasolgrazeanmogar It is a weak solution of pure non-iodised salt in water that was boiled and then cooled to slightly warm temperature. The one I use contains 1.6 grams of salt per 200 ml. of water. Don't use iodised salt, or water which hasn't been boiled or water that is too hot. A special squirt bottle or "neti pot" is used to insert the water into the nostrils to rinse out the mucus and dirt. You can buy the pure salt in packets with the special bottle as a nasal rinse kit. Iodised salt stings!

Ur videos helps me a lot..My voice is hoarse in the morning..n while singing my voice breaks especially during lower scales..I can sing high pitch songs but low pitch..no my voice starts cracking n these days...I'm like uh huh every now n then..I hav to clear my voice by drinking water....but ur videos r helping me ....thank you..I like all ur videos!!

    Actually my larynx was tightened ...so while singing in high notes.. I suffered from larynx pain..but i couldn't believe that eor this vdo is my painkiller... it's a miracle..thnks a lot aunt for helping us..I couldn't express my happiness in words.. I'm so happy..eor vdo solved my problem totally..

    So excited to have found your very detailed and helpful videos. As an older singer (age 71) with a long history of reflux issues, my vocal performance has become more and more unpredictable with increased “froggy” throat and constant throat clearing. I have been watching lots of videos and have recently added a warm steamer, “singing straws” and most recently, the Vocal Mist nebulizer to my “repertoire”. Watching this video has given me even more “ammunition” for my “vocal arsenal” with breathing exercises and dynamic stretches. In fact, both of those techniques are used in my Relax Yoga class and I am pleased to be able to add them to the mix.
    I am currently a soloist and cantor for my church and also the high soprano/descant singer when performing with the choir. Now that I am employed as a cantor and soloist, the stress is mounting to be able to perform well consistently. This performance anxiety in turn creates more issues with my singing. After watching this video I am determined to create a daily routine for myself and hope and pray I will be able to continue doing what I love.

    Thank you Katrina for demonstrating every tip instead of just mentioning it. That is so effective. On days that I do this whole exercise I sing like a cuckoo and have no range or mucus issues. I found my original voice for keeps and will now never loose it as long as I keep doing exercises from all your videos regularly. Thank you so much 🙏🙏

    i found on a vocal summit that there are some kind of stretching good but this depends on how the person is stuck with her /his body...my self I need to make something ...i feel better after a good stretching and cardio

    You saved me literally. Woke up with very closed throat. Steaming was amazing also massaging my neck. I have a work where I speak approx. 3 hours a day maybe 4 and I also sing. It is very delicate to find that balance. ♥️♥️♥️ than you again

    I m a teacher by profession and unlike earlier times a teacher used to dpeakvery lessbut in today's world a teacher cannot give rest for her voice and has to talk the whole dance repeat instructions sx children know concentrate n get diverted very fast. I saw ur video name having problem inthelower notes. Hope ur excercises will help me

    I dislike singing before 2pm but my music therapy practice requires 10am singing 2X weekly. These exercises are very helpful. Thank you! One additional AM trick I use is gargling with warm, salted H2O

    Great exercises!! I think I may have vocal chord dysphonia, as my voice hurts when I talk for any long amount of time. I have been in singing training for awhile, so am learning how to sing better, but talking is more painful. My greater pain feels like fatigue, and it seems to come from my hyoid nones on the sides, 1 side more than the other. I have had 19 scopes up my nose and down to my vocal chords, only once did I have a nodule, I was usually told I have too much mucous, so have taken muchness to thin the mucous, and am now trying allergy meds. This has been a very long issue, but it gets very fatigues as I said especially when I talk. I have watched several of your videos and am doing the massages and exercises. I am a speaker and singer for my job as pastor, so this has been very debilitating. Does this sound like dysphonia to you or just strain?? As I said, my hyoid bones seem to even have a small bump on at least 1 side! Thanks you for your help! Kathleen Dowell

      Hi Kathleen, 19 scopes is a lot of scopes for one person!!! You are a trooper. And you are learning how to sing with a better technique, which is great! Did you ever get referred to a speech-language pathologist for voice therapy? It sounds like that is what you need right now. Your voice should never hurt when you talk so I definitely recommend seeking a voice therapist who can teach you how to use a better technique when speaking. There may not be anything wrong with your vocal folds structurally but they still can have functional issues. It may be more challenging to be seen by a voice therapist during these times but start investigating if there is someone to provide therapy. I wish you all the best.

    Wow, this is so helpful and I have shared the link to other friends....these exercises relieved me of my jaw pain and my nasal passages too feel much better. I feel am always congested, have post nasal drip that has totally lowered my confidence to sing. I am hoping doing this routine daily will help overcome my nasal and throat issues (which landed me in this situation due to not exercising my facial and jaw muscles over the years).     She was right stretches aren't good. My daughter tried and was put to vocal rest for 5 days. She had a really soar throat. So yes I would prefer dynamic stretches.

      There are still many people who do static stretches. They work if done well. I prefer dynamic stretches.

    Great ideas for the morning - I was doing morning stretches so now I'm reminded to get back into them (a few basic yoga moves for my back) and I'll add a few of the ones you showed, and do the other steps too. I'm already meditating - trying to do two 15 minute sessions a but generally only do one.

    first, a vocal warm up
    second to practice 'ohh' lyrics in the song

    Excellent video on vocal warm up. My favourite vocal warm up exercise is lip trills. I do it in Hindustani Classical Swar.. Saa. Then I sing entire sargam with lip trills. Also I do lip trills from d lowest note to the highest note possible in d tune of a siren. Is it a correct way to do it ? I get benefitted with this. Kindly advise. And many many thanks !

      Thank you for your kind words. Yes, you are doing a great exercise. Lip trills are SOVT exercises (they work in a similar way like fricatives described in the video). If you feel their benefits, then certainly continue doing them!

    Thank you for your fabulous videos. I am in my 60's and after a 20yr hiatus, am wanting to sing again in a band. Can you share what is your favorite steamer? Also, I have noticed a "burr" in my voice when I begin to move into mixed voice from chest. Do you think steaming will help? Thanks again

    Hello , I found this video while checking remedy of my vocal fatigue . I am glad that i found it.
    I have overused and sometime abused my voice beyond its normal range for last few years . Now I am feeling vocal fatigue even while jusr talking . My vocal range reduced. Even for speaking properly I have to give more effort which is making me tired.
    In laryngoscopy mild pbonetary gap detected. I have to talk almost 10hrs back to back on calls due to my job . Can I get back my previous voice and range ? Specially want to know how the voice fatigue can go away? Kindly suggest

    Hi Katarina. I'm a new follower and I'm already a fan of your teaching methods. Very well explained . Had 2 questions though,
    1. I've been singing pretty much more than 25 to 30 years of my life (I'm 39 now) not been professionaly trained . And as far as I can remember Every time I sing if I drink room temperature water my voice locks up. But if I drink cold water or with lot's of ice cubes my voice works excellent and hits the highest notes easily. Why could this be?
    2.I've just found out that I have a small nodule on my vocal chords. The Dr says vocal therapy and vocal rest should fix it. Can I do the voice exercises during this time or wait for my vocal chords to get better first?

      Hi Pierre, thank you for your kind words. Here are my answers: 1. not sure why that is happening but it shows you that we are all different. My muscles react the opposite way. 2. The vocal nodule will diminish over time if you eliminate the reason why it is there in the first place. Vocal nodules are most commonly caused by high impact collisions of the vocal folds (for example from yelling, vocal tension, inefficient vocal technique etc.) Start using the vocal exercises but I would strongly advice that you do them under the supervision of a voice therapist who can show you the right way of doing them. Don't use absolute vocal rest, use relative vocal rest to give your voice a chance to heal (you can watch my video on this topic to learn more).

      i have been following your videos and i try my best to exercise . would you suggest that i sing a few non vocal challenging songs to keep my vocal chords active or just stick to restricted talking.

    Hi Katrina what do you mean by voice meditation is it just focusing on breathing or anything else? Because when I search it up nothing really comes up. Even a short video going through a 'voice meditation' could help or just a small explanation in the comments. Thanks so much Katrina.

      This is a great question and yes, you are right that voice meditation is not term many people use. Maybe it's just me but I call voice meditation any meditation, breathing or mindfulness exercise that has benefits for your voice. Many people need this part of warm-up, especially people whose mind is always racing, whose thoughts and emotions can be affecting their voice. Meditation for your voice can be anything that you are already doing. For example, a breathing exercise where you focus on the breath, a short meditation practice taken from other sources, a short mindfulness exercise that brings your awareness to the present moment, calms your body down and grounds you. I hope this makes sense. Thank you for your question.

    Hello gorgeous. . I have a question. . In my country it's always hot 40 degree plus.. so hot steams I am uncomfortable. . I do have air humidifier which ejects cold mist.. can I use that for this thing or only hot steam with work? Thank you so much.

      Cold mist is just as fine. A nebulizer is a device that produces cold mist which is often used to hydrate voice.

    Ma'am I used to wear earphones and sing at the highest pitch from the early morning to night .....
    I used to do that horrible activity for 1 year.....
    Now,my voice has lost its attrativity and becoming worse day by day .....

      It really depends on our needs. If you have time and feel the benefits, then do it. For others, once a day is just fine, and yet for other people different ways of hydration are preferrable. You just need to try and see for yourself.
