  • There are a lot of people who keep a lot of snakes, and sometimes those people have to move. I'm one of them. I'm backing up a moving truck and bringing myself and all my snakes to a new home. How am I going to move all these snakes?

    Wow Kent, didn't show up to help your brother move at all? On the other hand, props to Bob for not pushing the issue where Kent would clearly be uncomfortable and forced to choose between family and snakes.

    Just moved, with a ball python, 3 leopard geckos, 38 tarantulas and a cat. Moving is fun never again I was lucky enough to buy my first home only took me 26 years. All my joints are in pain but reptiles are back in their cages, transported them in crates. Moving, never again pain.

      On top of just the general cuteness of Rainbow Boas, they're definitely cuter than your typical BCI/BCC. Maybe not quite as cute as Ball Pythons but not far off.

    I'm so glad Garrett stressed how important hydration is when snakes are moved for a few days. I feel like that's something people often don't consider or believe snakes don't need water a lot. When I get a new snake I always offer water first and they'd often drink for ages (even when being super wary of their surrounding), telling me just how thirsty they've been.
    Happy to see your move went well and the snakes made it safely and are doing fine. 💚

    One of my ball pythons was whistling like that. I brought her to the vet. They asked if she’d shed recently. No, but she was just in blue-so a nice soak and she shed. No more whistling. Lol. Apparently her nostril scale(s) were loosened up enough to whistle 😂 it was an expensive shed that time.

      Of course with Ekko I'd probably be a little more cautious about anything like that given the reputation that Rainbow Boas have for being sensitive to conditions.

    Recently moved with a Rosy Boa from the southeast to the northeast. She hung out in her temporary enclosure (plastic bin with a hide, a rock, and some fake leaves), the temperature in the car stayed around 73, and she actually loved coming out and exploring a bit when we stopped at gas stations and such. I offered water every second stop, most times she totally ignored, but I think she appreciated the option. Waited the same 6 days to feed, and she took her fuzzy with no issue. These little fellas are much more resilient than we think!

      @mrvwbug4423 this is only my 3rd snake. I got my BP as an adult, and my Hognose at 21g. I couldn't believe how tiny this snake was, and was afraid the micro pinky I gave it would still be too big. I had to put him in a small tub with it to get him to eat it, so I couldn't watch, but when I opened the tub it was gone. I'm just really thankful he took it! The store I got him from had a similar size hognose baby too. I just don't know how wild snakes survive being that small 😆

    In 1978 I flew from California to Ohio with a young red Tailed Boa in the lining of my Coat. The airline told me “No Snakes only Pets”
    I told them she was a Pet Snake. They said pets had to have Fur or Feathers. So I put her in a snake bag (she was pretty small) and put her in the liner of my coat.
    Funny during the flight a guy sat next to me who was an exec with Hasbro Toys. We hit it off pretty well. After a couple hours I confided that I had my Pet Boa in my coat.
    He offered me a Job. But I’d have to wear a suit and live in either New York City, Chicago or LA. I said no thanks.

    I moved last summer from Reno NV to Oklahoma City, and back to Reno like 5 months later. I don't have snakes but did have tarantulas, 17 of them, and also jumping spiders, about 30 of them. We took two nights to get there since we left Reno so late. I left all my Ts in their own enclosure, but removed anything heavy, so like a glass water dish. Then I stacked them into huge black bins. Luckily they were all in Tarantula Cribs, the Ts anyway, and those stack. Then i filled any spot in between the stacks with towels, a few plastic bags, but just on the bottom, no where near air holes, and I made sure they were in there tight. So if i had to slam on my break or if there was a large curve, they couldn't move. The jumpers were in tarantula cribs, deli cups, and other containers, some were babies. They went again, into a large plastic bin. My dad drilled holes in the tops for air, but I put some zip ties through it so it didn't look as suspicious going into the hotels at night.
    When i got to the hotel, i would mist all the jumpers and offer them food. I would give the tarantulas water and if they were out I would offer them food too. They were the first thing in the motel/hotel, and the last thing out of the hotel. They moved just fine and no burrows fell in, most Ts line the burrow with webbing to keep them strong.

    CAUTION: HEAT is the enemy when moving, regardless of season and weather temp. If you are warming them, make sure they can escape the heat source. Travel bins, NOT BAGS! I only ever use bags for shipping and for my emergency wildfire no-notice evacuation go bag (rural AZ).

    • @GreenRoomPythons
      @GreenRoomPythons  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Reptiles should never be shipped or travel in a large enclosure type bins because they will get knocked around. The way we ship or travel with snakes is either in a snake bag or a very small container to keep them safe during travel. This is why we regulate the temperatures in transit so it doesn't get too hot or too cold for them. Garrett and I talk about this about Midway through the video.

      Snakes hide almost the entire time when they are in shed. Make sure you are using a temp gun to measure the temperatures inside the enclosure. The weather outside your house should not affect the temps in the enclosure if you have a thermostat regulating everything

    How’s it going? I have been a subscriber for a while now I first subscribed when I got my first two ball pythons probably about a year and a half to two years ago. I was watching one of your snake feeding videos and saw that I am able to feed my ball python twice and so I tried this with my girl echo I fed her a small rat and I let her get the rat and then I fed her extra small chicken and when I presented her with the chicken after she got the rat down, and this is the best way I can describe it. She started wagging her tail. I never seen her do that before so I was hoping you can explain to me what this means and if I shouldn’t feed her twice anymore, I am just curious because like I said, I’ve never seen her do that before. Thank you for your videos!!! They have been so helpful for me and looking forward to more great content from you!!!!!!

    • @GreenRoomPythons
      @GreenRoomPythons  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Tail wagging can mean a number of things. She may have felt threatened by it... You can feed two smaller prey items back to back on occasion, but it's always best to feed one appropriately-sized prey item to a ball python

    How do you hydrate a snake that hates water? My two snakes will use the corners of the bin to push up and not touch the water or they panik, wildy thrashing around. I got a faucet that gives you the exact temperature and I tried every recommanded one for snake baths.

    • @GreenRoomPythons
      @GreenRoomPythons  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Trying to give a ball python a bath is not recommended at all because of exactly what you are experiencing. Even though they can swim, they typically don't do it in the wild and putting them in water can really stress them out. The best way to hydrate your snake is to make sure their humidity is at an appropriate level... in the case of hydrating them for a move, you can just put a little bit of water in the bottom of a tub that they can sit in, but not to the point where they are swimming
