I loved the way you presented these games. The v/o helps explain the positions and thoughts, and I learned quite a bit from these games (not least to think about time)
Just my opinion: at 7:20, I think that playing c4 to block the white bishop would have been a good option. This move would leave the white bishop trapped behind the queen with only two possible moves. After that, the plan would cont.. black capturing the white knight and then playing e5. Of course, it depends on whether white decides to take on e5 or advance to d5. By that time, I would aim to move the black knight from d7 to d6, either via c5 or e5. Secured by the pawn on c4, this knight would block the white queen and bishop while also threatening the trapped rook. However, I wouldn't exchange that knight for the rook just yet, as keeping it would give me more time to launch an attack on the kingside. It’s an idea that might work! :)
Thanks Anna! I think from the positions you reached you should have won this tournament. However it's true that playing faster could raise your chances even more! It may have been he wouldn't have faced her if she had won against Anna, or if she had won earlier she could have lost to him and still been in? not sure honestly lol
At 10:59 you had him...you should have played Qf3X, when he retreats, take the knight on f6 and continue with Kf3. There a bunch of possible attacks from that position. If he retreated to g1 you have check again while forking the h2 pawn, or if he retreated to f1, you're attacking the h2 pawn while threatening check again and a chance to move the queen closer. Good game though!

Oh boy, that was self-inflicted. You had a lot of time MORE than he did and wasted it unnecessarily. You could have practically won on time at this point. Why waste it instead of using the time advantage against him?!
3:10 THAT OLD CHESTNUT 😂😂😂 They wanted your digits. +46…
Wait I am confused, did you beat his daughter or he beat his daughter? You said both! Why is he doing revenge if he was the one who eliminated her?? I dont get it!!!
I think she beat her (in chess), but then he eliminated her (in chess). My understanding is that you have to lose more than one game to be eliminated.
Yeah, it sounds like they both did.
Both. And he is doing it just for an incentive to beat Anna.
They both took turns beating the little girl
It may have been he wouldn't have faced her if she had won against Anna, or if she had won earlier she could have lost to him and still been in? not sure honestly lol
At 10:59 you had him...you should have played Qf3X, when he retreats, take the knight on f6 and continue with Kf3. There a bunch of possible attacks from that position. If he retreated to g1 you have check again while forking the h2 pawn, or if he retreated to f1, you're attacking the h2 pawn while threatening check again and a chance to move the queen closer. Good game though!
The Italian guy has a crush!
What fellow wouldn't??! 🙂
Bro is like, I just wanted her number, the hell with the win.
Please don’t resort to click bait. He clearly wasn’t angry. I’ve seen this in other thumbnail photos of yours, but this is the most deceptive yet. You can do better.
Love how deeply unimpressed you are with the ‘bottle of wine’ and ‘signature’ prizes!
I've just subbed and not only because I grew up learning from my father, your play is measured and elegant.. but because I watched a single match of yours at the same location against a somewhat arrogant frequent comp winner by all accounts and see how you play. (In my eyes)
I would hazard to say circa 75-80% of your strategy is off table.
You play, carry yourself and if I may be so bold, look very impressive. More power to you.
All the best from New Zealand
Cheers,
James
Obv I know very little around the world chess stage and only now looked you up. So no I don't expect a reply. Haha
Truly.. Haciendo y Deshaciendo Se Va Aprendiendo. :) Skål
You opened with the pyramid that you played as a kid! LOL, you’re only 21 😂😂😂
Love it 👍🏻
Great game! Love your channel. It has inspired me to get back to playing chess. Just today, for the FIRST TIME, I beat the computer on the "HARD" level. Loads of fun!!!! Thank you for sharing so many great videos on Chess. I always learn something and I love watching the strategies involved.
OH! Loved the "Anna, stop drinking beer and look at the board." Hahahaha!!! So much fun!
At the end, you can really tell that Miss Anna was very annoyed with herself by the way she's rubbing her neck raw. But as always, Miss Anna is gracious in defeat. She's a joy to watch.
Hello Anna. I love your videos. Your attitude and personality is so engaging. I played a lot of chess long ago, was in the school chess clubs etc. But then I grew up and life got in the way. I raised a family, had a professional career (well, several in fact, including being a musician, being a business owner, it's quite a resume) which took up much of my time, and now that all of that is behind me, I'm reengaging.
Congratulations on winning 4th! 👏 I love watching your games! And i love how you edit your videos! I love how you find a way to keep things private while your there but having your own commentary over the game! You've definitely made chess very fun to watch! I'm sure you'll also achieve your goal at getting faster this year and I'm sure your learning lots from watching the game being played again now you can reanalyze your strategies. Keep doing these videos! They're so fun to watch! I hope you never give up and you always grow!
Such great stories are part of WHY your content stands out!
Fantastic! you played so well! defeated only by your own slowness, which you already have as a goal to work on. I love your interest in words and language! and you have the far and away the best incidental music while the game is unfolding. So dramatic! I feel as though I've been drawn into a movie. Dramatic and relaxing at the same time. Great music and wonderful chess at the same time. It's like being in heaven. Thank you for creating these sorts of experiences for us to enjoy and learn from!
The Italian guy wants your phone number under your signature. 🙂
5 minutes is not long enough for a game of chess.
My thoughts exactly, I really hate the addition of a timer, urgency has no place in chess, you should be absorbed in the game not distracted by a clock, I mean I get it they need to get through the games quickly to cram a tournament into the alloted time but no-one there's going to take 'that long' about it, it just feels like a cheap addition
3:34 Thing is a "Bierdeckel" or coaster in England. It goes under the beer glass or over it in the summer to stop bugs.
You were so close, but time got you again forcing you into panic mode. But you did have a good time and made new friends. Chess Princes.
Strong narrative doesn't need emotive string music, l love that you play well and speak without using distancing or hesitation words
Thanks for sharing this game
I respect the dad, you do learn more from losses than wins
11:33 I play The Pirc and similar styles with black a lot. Usually the computer says putting the king in the corner is safest, even though it looks silly. It prevents harsh pins.
Very well narrated. Thanks for posting.
