- At the end of summer Vesislava flew all the way from Dubai to a remote corner of England to work with me on a series of recordings: three new compositions written by me and three of her own invention. The result is a collaborative EP named "Gates of Avar" which will be released on Friday 21st October.

"The Winter Wind" is the first of my three contributions. The theme had been in my head for many months but I'd hit a wall conceiving it only as a solo piano piece. When Vesi proposed a collaboration, reimagining the motif as a piano-cello dialogue opened the door to the rest of the composition and everything fell naturally into place.
Consequently, I've decided to dedicate "The Winter Wind" to her.

I think I play this album at least 3x a day. It's one of those where every song is a little painting of sound and silence, and every song is there with a purpose. No filler. I'm not a fan of cello's in general but here it all comes together perfectly. My only gripe is that it's "just" six songs.

The soothing, melodious cello goes so well with the piano keeping a regular, encouraging rhythm. I can hear the two instruments match and compliment each other. An emotional gift to the listener. What are the players thinking? Are they also emotionally inspired like their listeners, e.g., this old lady?

On a more personal note , I felt exactly what you described during our collaboration with Luke. It's such a special feeling to come together with another artist and try to compliment each other with music. The ideas which can be born are so interesting because they represent both artist in a way.
Although Luke wrote this piece solely , so the music was completely done by him , I like to imagine I gave it my own colour.

I love the piano!! My only complaints are the cello overpowers the piano too much, and I wish the video showed both of your faces equally! She's pretty, but you're both good looking! You can tell I'm here for Luke lol.
Haha Nick , I agree with you on the complaints! I complained we didn't have a shot of Lukes face too , but unfortunately we didn't have enough cameras to capture everything and we were pretty stranded on time !
Next album my friend , I will make sure there is one camera facing Luke exclusively ! 😅
The mixing of the instruments was done by friends of ours and listening to it during editing sounded pretty balanced in the studio monitors. In any case thank you for the criticism, we will make sure to try better next time dear!

Reading classical literature with your musics feels so perfect. I read lost illusions from balzac and specially this beautiful one at the very moment this poem came and well ... Have to say i was like🥺. The young protagonist went to paris to " conquer the world " with his writing skills, lost so much and wrote this at his lowest moment showing both despair and resilience to just enjoy is journey as it is "Let’s laugh! Let’s drink! And let’s mock the rest." A mixed emotion just like what i ear from this track for which u can both shed a tear and smile :) Thx for what both of you did
