    So I’m a truck mechanic and I believe a few principles cross over with regards to any ICE (internal combustion engine) and that’s 30-60 seconds warming up, ride gently until optimal operating temperature is achieved. (Smaller engines such as bikes are usually at the right temp around 3-5miles. And then once at temp, ride how you like. Run in periods are a manufacturer thing, all engines prior to being put in the bike are ran to ensure they meet requirements. Power/emissions etc. So a run in period really isn’t a thing, but it doesn’t do it any harm being gentle on a new engine like you said. I agree to all your points but as a mechanic I have to say it really doesn’t make a difference if you do or don’t. Great video once again mate, look forward to getting mine.

      Good to know mate! Agreed, I was sure that after the first couple of hundred miles it should be fine but I guess the running in periods are to cover the manufacturers arses so they have something to fall back on if it goes wrong in the first 500 odd miles. Thanks for watching! I'm excited to see your bike too!

    I always warm it up and run it in hard. (Not to max rpm) And never had anything burn oil and all had good power and longevity. Also note that some OEM’s do the same thing before you get it!

    That way of running in makes perfect sense and if anything went wrong then you know it wasn't you, so piece of mind.

      Exactly! And less chance of a speeding ticket... before the first service anyway 😂

    I agree with your thoughts but I'd suggest leaving the quick shorter disabled too to aid bedding in the clutch 👍

      Thanks! That's a good idea, I didn't use the QS for the first hundred miles or so and that seems to have worked well. Thanks for watching

    I'm with you. Im running in a 1250GS at the moment. Gentle but not being paranoid about it. A few bursts here and there. I've read plenty that running in oil is thinner and that it collects the very small metal particles that come off of the new components better.

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! Any metal shavings that may come from the engine while it beds in end up in the oil.. just got to hope they stay on the magnet in the sump so rather be safe that sorry! Congrats on the new bike too!

      Nice!! Congratulations! It's the Rally riding mode. It's the only one that's set up differently to the rest. You'll find it in the tech pack!

      @@SamVBikes Thanks, first brand new bike. Just waiting for it to arrive in Australia from Japan has felt like an eternity. The break in is going to be inception level time bending. That radar cruise wizardry looks amazing, would make chewing up the KM to get to the spots a breeze, wish the T9 had it.

      Nice! This was my first brand new bike too. I bet! A friend of mine bought a Tiger900 recently... which was brand new and in the showroom... had to wait 3 weeks to pick it up because they needed to fit some additional Crash bars. I think knowing its there waiting is probably worse than it not being in the country haha! Yes, the radar cruise is a game changer! Give it a few years and everything with have it!
