Did the defendant’s partner say “I’m right here beside him!” Instead of a simple “yes!”? These crooks are mad they got caught and called out on national TV.
I wouldn't call them crooks, based on this at least. Although I wouldn't be surprised to find out they actually are, the partner has that kind of scummy vibe. Definitely stupid, but it seems like they just got conned. They should have contacted her once they figured out they had been scammed to set things right. Not sure if when they figured it out was before or after her hired PI found them.
I would be, too, if I was stupid enough to fall for a scam and be expected to fix my stupidity 😂😂😂

I know he's probably embarrassed to have been scammed, then sued and brought on national TV by the person whose driveway he helped destroy, but that's not the plaintiff's problem or JJ's problem.
The defendants had to agree to come on JJ so he brought himself onto national TV which was stupid upon stupid. I'm surprised JJ didnt throw him out when he started rolling his tongue around, Byrd would have enjoyed helping him out the door.

The part where she had to hire a PI to find this guy which means as soon as they realized they screwed up, they split! I wouldn't trust him to fix anything. They're lucky she didn't call the cops. I also think JJ is too quick and impatient sometimes, the plaintiff probably spent several days and had to deal with a torn up driveway for who knows how long. That all costs money.
Why would she trust the defendants to fix her driveway?

Great advice. If I was the plaintiff I'd have remained silent and provided the evidence. Judy didn't need my help. She had it all figured out. Maybe if at some point she asked if I had anything to say I'd have said "I think your honor understands the situation. Unless there is a confusing point you want clarity on, or any additional evidence, I'm happy for you to make your ruling."
I wouldn't have hired Dumb and Dumber to repair the driveway. They're too stupid to be trusted.

Too bad she assumed Byrd wouldn't be willing to take a pay cut for the new show, it appears he would have. She finally gave him bailiff work on Tribunal Justice but it's not the same kind of camera exposure.

I believe the two defendants are scammers who came up with this story to have an excuse to jackhammer somebody's drive and then say 'oh well, we can do a good job for you for $6,000' (or offer some great discount that is really the money they want).

I remember one case where you could hear him say "Just shut up!" in a loud whisper to one plaintiff. He wasnt on camera at the time but it was definitely him.

One thing i don't understand, why the defendant upset. At end of the day , they're wrong. I truly think, they were considering he scam artist from the jump.
They're upset because they thought they could hoodwink Judge Judy. My opinion of their intelligence wasn't very high to begin with, and it dropped a few notches every time they opened their mouths.
They were snookered by an obvious scam, destroyed a driveway, ran away from the responsibility, got caught by a private investigator, and then seem outraged that the plaintiff didn't hire them for $4000 to fix their damage.

JJ should have asked for proof of how they sent the supposed scammer the $300. Because the defendant had trouble even answering how he sent it. I think the only reason they agreed to come to the show was because they knew they were going to lose and wanted the producers to pay the judgement.

The partner, with the glasses, looks like he was very frustrated with J.J. and her demeanor....and, in a way, it's understandable how it appears as if she's being "condescending"..But, the plain truth is, is the two workers were scammed, and the guy needs to ADMIT THAT INSIDE OF HIMSELF, and, just humbly admit that he and his partner did act foolishly and learn from it. He had no real right to get upset towards J.J. in this case.

I can understand the defendant is annoyed that she didn't come to him first to fix it, but it sounds like she had to hire a private investigator to track them down. As soon as they discovered they had been scammed they should have apologized to her and offered to fix the driveway at no cost to her. They didn't so they get to so suffer the consequences of those actions.

I would have granted the lady 5K - the extra is for her pain and suffering to deal with this issue. We know how time consuming it is to have to deal with house renovations, not to mention the headache involved.
No wonder these guys got duped so easily. Lol.
My thought is that once they were scammed of their $300, they were pissed, held the owner at the address responsible, tore up half her driveway and left it as punishment and a way to recoup their loss thinking they were forcing her hand to pay THEM to fix it (which apparently they tried to do).
What they did was a CRIME!
Plaintiff should have filed a police report for vandalism, criminal mischief, and/or property damage, made the cops find them (or told them where to find them) and asked to be made whole through the criminal court system as restitution, including any damage that occurred to her house or yard while the property was ruined.
I realize this would have taken time which the plaintiff did not want to take. So instead she screwed herself by accepting a crappy patch job and made them pay only for that with no other repercussions 🙄
