  • Istanbul is one of the world's greatest cities. Connecting Europe and Asia the city has an incredible history.
    We start this Istanbul walk at the blue mosque in the Sulthanahmed district. We walk to and through the Grand Bazar which is a major tourist attraction.
    Passing the Istanbul university campus with the Beyazit tower we walk uphill to the Suleymaniye Mosque for a view over the city. This Ottoman imperial mosque is located on the Third Hill of Istanbul and as the second largest mosque of the city. It's also worth to take a look inside, so we have a peek.
    We walk some more streets outside the touristic center and back down to where it gets busy again in the market area. We end this walk at the spice market where many shops offer spices and more.
    Filmed in July 2019

    Dam I wasn't expecting to actually watch the whole video 😂 but it was just so good. Felt like I was there on vacation.
    I love the way you recorded the city of Istanbul. You went to the places an actual person would have gone as compared to those TV crews who only shows the Fancy hotels and restaurants.

      there were no nationalities back in time , this is something of Modern days , the territory of Turkey was Part of "Ottoman" Empire and the Population was around 11 Million in 1900 , most of them were Anatolians , things changed rapidly after the collapse of "Ottoman" and foundation of Turkish Republic , People from all over the world came to this country especially from the Balkans like Albanians , Slavs or Jews or random people from former soviet republics , this massive immigration never stopped , and now we are here with a Population of 84 Million which most of the citizens have a foreign background but you dont see the difference because they all live in second , third or fourth generation as Turkish citizens , they also changed their Names .

      I'm using a DJI Osmo Pocket and for audio a Zoom H1 microphone. The mic is packed with foam and wind-protection all around these days, though not yet on this video. Both devices, the camera and mic, are connected to a powerbank. I can hold this little rig in my hand, mostly around chest level which is most comfortable though a bit lower than eye-level. I like that perspective though. I use my other hand to take photos or check a map on my phone.
      About the memory: I use 128GB microSD cards as one hour can take some 45 Gbyte or so. I upload a smaller file to TH-cam - around 38 Mbit which is what my MacBook Pro (2013) gives me out of QuickTime

    What kind of cam you used here?

    • @poptravelorg
      @poptravelorg  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm using a DJI Osmo Pocket. The camera is connected to a powerbank for longer filming. Audio comes from a Zoom H1 microphone that I sync with the video before upload. I recently ordered an Osmo Action for a more rugged camera additional footage. The Osmo Pocket integrated gimbal is pretty nice for its size

    why the shooting angle was so low? I was just seeing heads everywhere....Lmao

    • @poptravelorg
      @poptravelorg  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason for the camera so low is that it's the most comfortable position to hold for me. I have a z-axis stabilizer on my wishlist and will see if it makes the videos less bouncy and maybe changes the perspective a bit. You may want to check out the other Istanbul videos as there are several streets without many people: th-cam.com/play/PLaxUrZNxL7WLwvhh9592cOdn9CpyDDl3v.html

    how could you eliminate camera wobbles due to walking in osmo pocket? how did you make camera pans, rotations and tilts so smooth?

    • @poptravelorg
      @poptravelorg  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made a small rig where the Osmo Pocket is on a powerbank with a microphone ontop. This adds some weight and maybe has a positive effect on more stabilized video. The walking "bopping" actually is still there and there is not much possible to avoid that (other than ninja walk). I noticed however, holding the camera more to the body center rather in my left hand makes it a bit smoother. Pans and so on I can still improve - just move very very slowly. My earlier walking videos were worse with pans (too quick) so it's a bit improving - also thanks to firmware updates from DJI. Interestingly fast walking / running appears smoother than walking often as you have more forward motion rather than up/down from the steps

      @@poptravelorg thanks for the detailed explanations. appreciated. is there any chance that you can send a photo illustrating the mechanism you described above?

    • @poptravelorg

      You may try to pause the video here th-cam.com/video/SNkdN97hXzw/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/SNkdN97hXzw/w-d-xo.html - the thing is seen a bit in the mirror. It's an Aukey Powerbank (www.amazon.de/gp/product/B017KDS204/) to connect Zoom H1 and Osmo Pocket to power. Any powerbank works yet this one came with a little bag where the Osmo Ocket fit into a side. Then the Zoom H1 is mounted on a 3D printed thing www.thingiverse.com/thing:687775 - which isn't necessary and it's half broken now. Everything is held in place with a few hair rubber bands which are thick and sturdy or cable binders.
      I found out late that I also have to encase the mic body to avoid wind noise. For that I'm using a small wool-hat now to cover the microphone more with the front (and windhield) exposed. It's a lot of makeshift stuff and I'm sure you can find a solution with what bags and things you have.
      On the Osmo Pocket I use "slow follow" in the gimbal settings. I only use single focus at the beginning, putting the focussing point far in the distance though closer to the lower screen area due to the exposure closer to the ground later than sky. I make the angle a bit more comfortable (maybe 25° to the right) so it faces forward while I don't have to twist the wrist.
      I should get some blog going to show this kind of stuff. A powerbank still seems necessary to film anything more than 35' at 4K60 or several walks in a row. I'm sure you'll find some good setup that works for you

Bulgaria for example is a neigboring country to turkey yet they look european and dress also european. Syria is also a neighboring country of turkey. Guess which country they look more alike. Yes turkey. Can you different syrian and turkish people by the looks? Not really. Soo yes turkish people dress and look like arabs with their poloshirts and woman with multicolor headscarfs. But to be honest arab countries are dressing muchbetter than turkish people. Even kazakhstan dresses better. Turkish peoples clothing reminds me that of lothing from people in china somehow

      This request comes once in awhile. I'm thinking about annotated and narrated (overdubbed) edited videos - shorter information-filled version of the most popular videos here. At the moment though I will invest my time into recording the walks which allow viewers to get a "feel" of the city better. With 2-3 videos / week this is fine. There are plenty of travel guides on TH-cam yet this channel shows an unedited realtime experience of places that is also appreciated by many. When this channel becomes more successful I'll surely be able expand into extending some videos extras like captioning and voiceover commentaries. Maps on a website will come first.
      Thanks for watching
