    • @chianghongyi3039
      @chianghongyi3039 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Speaking as a Taiwanese, it is truly saddening that we've been caught in this crossfire between East and West ever since 1949 and the disparaging tone of 3rd parties calling on China to 'tighten the screw' further contributes to my melancholy. But I guess it makes sense, since the US is the dominant imperial power which has invaded so many more countries than China, and don't we love an underdog story!
      Now then, allow me to tell you about my perspective.
      From the diehard Maoist ideologue to the pink-haired bubble liberal, both sides can agree that the issue stemmed from the KMT fleeing to Taiwan and the subsequent events of the 'White Terror'. In the present day, there is irony, since even a 9-year-old who watches the news whilst eating their takeout bento can discern that the KMT/various Nationalist groups are on the CCP's payroll to disseminate the appeasement agenda, exploiting our wishes to maintain the status quo while also sprinkling in some of the good ol' Beijing talking points.
      I think I speak for the silent majority of the Taiwanese people when I say that we scoff at the Chinese facade of "一家亲" and the assholery of Mainland brinkmanship (one example being the Taiwan Strait Crisis in the 1990s: There is a TW rap track by the title of【我家是瘋人院】that captures the divided opinion of the electorate back then and also today) but also at the dangerous provocation of calling for independence. We all recognise that being the lapdogs of the US will stop the folks on the other side and in consequence, that we will surely fall if the Americans don't come - but also, why should they? All this coupled with internal political problems of unemployment and cost-of-living, the environment is not good, which will only get worse if peace is broken.

    The scariest thing about the Taiwan and China issue is that China has NEVER ONCE ASKED the people of Taiwan what they wanted. There are no referendums called by China to let Taiwan decide by vote whether it wants independence or reunification, China has never asked Taiwan how they should coexist and never consulted Taiwan for advice either. The Chinese people have the best say on the human rights situation in China. China made history by eliminating absolute poverty. China provide the world’s largest education system, social security system and medical care system in China. The Chinese people’s sense of gain, happiness and security keeps getting stronger. China have found a path toward better human rights that reflects the trend of the times and fits their national realities. A Harvard University survey conducted over a period of more than 10 years straight shows that the Chinese government’s satisfaction rate among the people stayed above 90 percent.
      The US criticized the human rights situation of nearly 200 countries and regions and yet said nothing about the themselves. This is just another case of double standard. The hegemonic, domineering and bullying nature of the US and its selfishness and hypocrisy are on clear display. If the US truly cares about human rights, it should take seriously and properly address domestic gun violence, drug abuse, racial discrimination, frequent schools shooting, police violence and other violations of human rights and dignity. It should face up to and reflect on its intervention operations in other countries and human rights catastrophes resulting from the US provision of weapons and fanning the flames in regional conflicts. The US, turning a blind eye to over 110,000 civilian casualties in Gaza, vetoed the UN Security Council’s efforts for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza four times in a roll. That alone says enough about how little human rights actually mean to the US and how it tramples on them.
      The world is not blind to US hegemonism imposed on the world in the name of human rights. The US needs to examine its own behavior. It needs to take care of its own problems first, stop lecturing others on human rights, stop pointing fingers at other countries’ human rights record, and stop meddling in other countries’ internal affairs, violating their human rights and planting conflicts and chaos in the name of human rights and democracy.

      The rise and development of China is leading the community with a shared future for mankind towards a new global order, and this leaves no space for the U.S. hegemony.
      So the U.S. is doing everything they can to contain the development of China. It has engaged in wars on trade, diplomacy, and finance against China, but all end up in vain. If Taiwan is a independent country, then why Taiwan was never to step foot inside UN assembly? Even Singapore don't recognize Taiwan... Singapore consistently maintains a "One China" policy and opposes independence for Taiwan. Singapore took this fundamental position even before Singapore established diplomatic relations with the PRC.
      Just few months ago US Secretary of State Antony Blinken delivered a speech in Beijing that reiterated America's commitment to the "One China Policy". He also say "We do not support Taiwan independence." America has moved away from supporting #Taiwan independence.

      Tibet was conquered by various parties such as the Mongols prior to the 20th century. In 1720, China invaded and conquered Tibet. Following the collapse of the Qing monarchy, various Chinese territories and local governments such as Tibet and Mongolia attempted to secede from China by unilaterally declaring independence in 1913. Only Mongolia recognised Tibet’s unilateral declaration of independence, whereas China n the international community did not. The attempt at secession eventually failed as the KMT and then the CPC sent troops to recover Tibet. The Tibet separatists surrendered and Tibet was reunified by China in 1950. The Dalai Lama today accepts Tibet as Chinese territory. Only some overseas Tibetan separatists are still trying to secede Tibet from China.
      Xinjiang was conquered by China in 1755. It also attempted secession after the Qing monarchy collapsed. The East Turkestan Republic was a short-lived satellite state of the Soviet Union in northern Xinjiang (East Turkestan), which existed from 1944 to 1946.
      Taiwan was conquered by China in the 17th century and ceded to Japan in 1895. In 1945, Taiwan was surrendered by Japan back to China via internationally recognised treaties.

    • @conti-vl6tx
      @conti-vl6tx 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Most of China's territorial expansion, like Inner Mongolia or Xinjiang or the rugged mountain regions, took place when China was ruled by "foreign" dynasties, like the Yuan (1279-1368) and Qing (1644-1911). The story of Tibet is more complex. Tibet was first conquered by China under Mongols in 1244, but "enjoy[ed] considerable autonomy under Yuan Dynasty". In the many centuries since this initial conquest, struggles have ensued over Tibet's domination by the different Chinese governments, from the Qing to the republican government. It was only 1950 that Tibet was formally incorporated into the People's Republic of China. China's claims over Tibet therefore come with a highly contested history. This is a simplification of a rich and complex Chinese history, but the significant grain of truth is that for most of the past two thousands years, the Han Chinese have not been militarist or expansionist, despite the many wars they have fought, most of which were within China

    1) In 1894, Japan invaded China and Korea, the Qing govt was defeated and signed the [Treaty of Shimonoseki] to cede Taiwan Island to Japan.
    2) During the WW2, at the Cairo Conference held in 1943, China asked the transfer of Taiwan's sovereignty back to China after the war. This content was included in the [Cairo Declaration] and later reiterated in the [Potsdam Proclamation] that it should be implemented.
    3) In 14 Aug & 2 Sept 1945, the Emperor and govt of Japan issued the [End War Edict] and [Japanese Instrument of Surrender], Japan surrendered and accepted the [Potsdam Proclamation]. Japanese troops in Taiwan surrendered to KMT General CKS and Taiwan re-entered the territory of the Republic of China (ROC).
    4) Soon after that China civil war broke out in between KMT and CCP, the KMT was defeated and fled to Taiwan. However, due to US intervention, the CCP without strong navy at that time has no ability to unify Taiwan. The CCP then established the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1949. The civil war continues.
    5) In 1971, UN Resolution No. 2758 ruled that the PRC had obtained the representation rights and all legal rights originally owned by the ROC in the UN. That means the PRC is China’s only legal govt under international law and is recognized by 181 countries around the world, including the USA.
    "The USA recognizes the Government of the PRC as the sole legal Government of China."
    "The USA acknowledges the Chinese position that there is but one China and Taiwan is part of China."
    Joint Cummunique on the Establishment of Diplomatic relations between the PRC and the USA in 1979.

    If Taiwan is independent, it will be able to sign a treaty to station US military as Philippines, which violates the agreement of China and US when they established the formal diplomatic relationship in 1979. China insisted this condition when it was relative weak, how you can assume China will accept this change now?
