    Alan Ross Reviews Top Picks:
    Pound for pound world champion:
    Soundcore Motion Boom: geni.us/motionboom
Amazingly deep bass to 40hz for its size and price.
For a leaner more agile sound with seven more deep bass for the same price try the Mifa Wildbox
    Still worth a look:
My former world champ the Soundcore Motion Plus can still offer great clarity.
    geni.us/soundcoremotionplus
    £50 champion:
Great bass for its size, Soundcore Boost: geni.us/soundcoreboost
A little bigger but a decent listen for full body sound at a decent price ($50) BOGASING M4 (some distortion issues): geni.us/bogasingm4
    Bass Heavy Speakers:
Harman Kardon Go+ (mid and upper bass heavy but with decent balance): Play geni.us/goplay
Onyx Studio 6 (warmer than the 7, maybe too bass heavy in balance): geni.us/onyxstudio6
Bag of Riddim 2: not much deep bass but dollops of mid and upper bass help to give a warm and open sound. A good fun listen but not so accurate in reproduction. geni.us/bagofriddim
    Hi End Picks
    Minirig mk3 2.2 system: geni.us/minirigmk3
Great for portable low deep kick: Onyx Studio 6 (more bass than Onyx 7): geni.us/onyxstudio6
Monitor Like openess and neutrality but lacks deep bass Audio Pro C3: geni.us/audioproc3
    Travel Speakers:
    Marshall Stockwell 2: geni.us/stockwell2
offers a decent immersive sound with full and tight bass. Beware though it does not go very loud
    JBL Charge 5: geni.us/jblcharge5
Only mono but has a very clear and dynamic sound at low volumes and can go reasonably loud but will become a little screechy over 80%.
Bose Soundlink Flex: geni.us/bosesoundlinkflex good bass heavy sound for its compact travel friendly size.
Denon 250bt, no longer made but sets the standard for size/quality ratio for travel (battery drain issues)
JBL Flip 6: geni.us/jblflip6 louder than the Bose Soundlink Flex and has better highs (though too much, bit harsh) but not as full sounding as the Flex.
Beosound A1 1st gen: sounds better than 2nd gen and goes louder but has app, connectivity and battery issues. Very deep bass for small size and clearer than the Bose Flex. geni.us/a1gen1
    Best Mini/Micro Options:
    Bose Soundlink Micro (warm): geni.us/bosesoundlinkmicro
    Tribit Stormbox Micro 2(clinical): geni.us/tribitmicro2
Also consider Beosound A1 1st gen (more HiFi). geni.us/a1gen1
    Minirig Mini 2: geni.us/minirigmini2
    Worth a Look:
    W-King T9: geni.us/wkingt9
The T9 is a reasonably loud and balanced party speaker with a big bright detailed sound.
Budget Loud Boombox: no clear winner but my pick for fun outside listen would be:
W-King X10-1 for form factor and loudness geni.us/wkingx10
W-King D9 for bass with a little smoother signature: geni.us/wkingd9
Tribit Xsound Mega: medium sized mono speaker with fun bass and light show. geni.us/xsoundmega
Dali Katch G2 full review against all leading contenders :)
Alan Ross Reviews, probably the best reviews in the universe :)

Thanks Alan. Its helps a lot having all the references. According to your analysis the Motion Plus (at least in Custom EQ) seems to check all the same boxes in terms of sound and features of the Katch G2 (BTW I don't have a Motion Plus but that's just what it looks like). I don't think I would even use a Katch G2 even if I had one - the way my speakers gets knocked about G2 wouldn't last very long😁

Hi Alan, how you doing mate ? Thanks for still spreading your love for speakers advice .I’ve got a question regarding the motion boom.I have one which I’ve been using for almost a year now after your reviews .Still Working as new ,and still enjoying every little bit of it .I’ve always plays it via my Lg 4K smart tv ,mainly TH-cam and never had any issues.
Last week I bought another boom from Amazon after dropping it for £65 new .The problem I’m having both boom pairs well in stereo mode ,but when it plays ,seems like my tv is fighting with both Bluetooth from both speakers ,I mean trying to connect to both Bluetooth at the same time ,hence cutting off the sound for few seconds, every 1 minute. But when I play TH-cam from my iPhone ,this problem doesn’t occurs as iPhone can only connect to one Bluetooth device at a time .Have you encountered this before .Ps I’ve updated both speakers firmware.
Btw now I remember who your voice sounds alike …James O Brian from LBC 😎

Hi Alan! Thanks for the comparison. Very useful!
I have a Charge 5 (TL) and mostly happy with it. But after a long listening, it makes me get tired. I am not an expert but I think it's because of the bass distortion. Such small speakers cannot produce true bass I think. I tried many portable speakers at showrooms and saw that almost all portable speakers (including HK Go Play, etc) have the same problem, less or much.
So I decided to increase my budget and give a chance to Dali Katch G2 but after your review I am confused.
Could you please let me know: Which speaker would you recommend for very low volumes, for close listening in small hotel rooms. I can buy 2 for pairing to reach stereo. It doesn't have to include a battery. I am listening do different genres (soft rock, electronic, ethnic, symphonic, vocals, blues, indie...). Airplay 2 would be a plus but not a must.
Another option in my mind is: Bang&Olufsen Beosound Level. I know that it's price is much higher than its sound quality but I cannot find a speaker which doesn't have that bass distortion problem (if I am defining it right). I tried Klipsch The Tree II also. Amazing sound! I was very pleased in listening to it. But it's not for low volumes and still had that vooomf problem.
    Thanks! 🙂👋

I have the Dali Katch G2. At 50% volume, I already find it to be too loud. You seem to like listening to speakers at high volumes and with deep bass. Many of the songs you tested are bass heavy dance tracks. In short, I think you like 'party' speakers, which the Katch G2 is not. It is however really good at low/moderate volume levels, which I think most ordinary folks use.

I have an emberton since I never put it on max volume I don’t experience any ‘screech’ or whatsoever. For rock music you can’t do any better than Marshall speakers. 2 woofers and 2 tweeters don't automatically make it stereo either. You need a minimum of distance between the speakers and from you to the speakers in order for stereo to unfold.
No speaker below 80 cm width between the tweeters can reproduce any enjoyable stereo imaging. But that's just my opinion. I am nobody

    • @alanrossreviews

Dont confuse stereo as in playing seperate right left channels with a stereo soundstage. Technically speaking stereo reproduction requires an equilateral triangle.

      @saardean4481 ปีที่แล้ว

@@alanrossreviews This is exactly what stereo is. Separate right+left channels which with the right placement create imaging and natural sound. And this equilateral triangle has to be bigger than the distance between your ears. There is a reason why no serious stereo system has its speaker 40cm from one another and that's why no compact bluetooth speaker sounds like stereo no matter how many drivers it has. But as I said. I am nobody

"I EQ them depending on how I feel at the time" say what? Then, how is that fair?
    KATCH is brittle?
People like you who take something that has received a lot of praise and mocks it by comparing to shitty speakers from companies that are just hungry for market share.
Normalising the volume is bullsh*t, because you're not giving each speaker the chance to do whatever their components and amplifiers are capable of.
Also...just do you know, the KATCH sounds much better and louder when hooked up to its power adaptor.

      Seems we disagree 😁👌

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It has occurred to me that you have a fundamental misconception of what true normalising is. If correctly done dynamic range is protected. All we are talking about is bringing loudness levels to be matched. This is done on all major streaming platforms. In my case i match actual volumes for loudness before recording and normalising, the normalising is for the small loudness difference remaining and dynamic range is protected. This is the only fair way to compare speakers otherwise any loudness difference will be perceived as a dynamic range advantage to the louder speaker. However i have found people like you are not genuinely interested in how and why i do what i do but rather simply want to shout out their own incorrect biases and misconceptions to appear knowledge where it doesnt actually exist. Often this is done to promote their own channels or are actually attempting to counter negativity that has fallen on a certain brand. Most often i dont respond as my time is better served with guys eager to learn. Eithet way its a major ego boost that brands take me serious enough to feel the need to discredit me. However they havent realised only a reasoned out friendly chat can achieve this. Once you state PEOPLE LIKE ME you already lost all credibility. Keep the chat nice and im happy to address anyones genuine concerns. 👌
